Greetings from HK. I quite agree on the comments that accommodation in HK is too expensive a free tix doesn’t seem attractive. Regular tix from SG - HK is not very expensive anyway. Also the part for rude people: yes! Rude people and scammers are rather common even HKers are bothered by them. But I’d argue there are still many many polite and passionate people in HK willing to help or whatever. Maybe young people! It depends on who you choose to interact. Don’t be afraid to talk with local youngsters, I am sure the exp will be much better than dealing with rude uncles and aunties 😂 they may also give you travellers tips like cost of taxis or what scams to avoid. Maybe I am biased but there are indeed some bad influences from China even Hkers are not used to. A coin has two sides I m sure Singaporeans so smart you get it.
Not keen to go to HKG, no attraction points there. I reckon people will visit HKG if they have friends/family there otherwise I really can't see a need.
@garchua69 Жыл бұрын
I brought my family to HK during 2018 Dec. It was before Covid and the big protest. The experience was on the extreme end, my family finds the younger generation were generally much more polite then the “boomer gen”. I’m almost a boomer gen and HK was a destination that the wife and I always wanted to go when we were young, maybe due to watching tv shows and movies. My son would love to visit HK again as a tourist but not my daughter and my spouse. The shopping experience was okay in most shops but can be better. I’d rather do repeated visits to Taiwan and Japan. Sometimes it’s not about the glitzy buildings and malls, to me it’s the experience and people.

Esp when the city side is quite similar to that of Singapore. There used to be many cultural stuff unique to Hong Hong but slowly fading away. Now the gov only focus on Disneyland or big buddha or other mediocre man made tourist attractions. But without the soft culture what do we have left could win over other places? Sigh 😔
@dawnho7744 Жыл бұрын
The thing is that most of us in Singapore have been to Hong Kong and for some of us, quite a number of times. Rather than the attractions HK offers, it's more about the food. That's why we rather go to other countries where there are more sceneries to look at. The free air-tickets won't be enough to entice the locals to go there and like the ladies you've interviewed on the streets, accommodation is the main cost for the whole trip.

@frankmuller0.029 Жыл бұрын
Hmmm…. it’s not just the free ticket that matters. Time is limited and we just came out of the pandemic and that traveling restrictions have just been lifted not too long ago, so there are lots of choices. I guess it’s a question of what comes first given the limited time and resources and also partly becoz most Singaporeans have been to HK already and for some, even multiple times. So, to make the money worth every single cent, you probably need to compare and work out your budget before booking the trip.

The present day HK is just not attractive for tourism. Smallish Disneyland, old Ocean Park, closed down tourist attractions like Jumbo Restaurant and many famous old eateries shutdown by pandemic. Add to that many youngsters or anti-China government citizens whom take out their anger on Mandarin speakers with rude and unfriendly treatment, plus the feeling of a city down on its luck with no future after their HK laws are changed to appease Beijing. Tough to see HK getting as many tourists as in the 80s or 90s, even with free flight tickets. It's just not the same HK of the vibrant and energetic days pre 1997 handover.

There have been some negative comments about the free airline tickets offer in Hong Kong, particularly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some people have expressed concerns about the safety of travel and the potential risks of spreading the virus, especially if large numbers of people take advantage of the free tickets. Others have criticized the government for prioritizing tourism over public health. Additionally, there have been concerns about the environmental impact of the initiative, with some people arguing that it will contribute to air pollution and carbon emissions. Finally, some people have questioned the long-term impact of the free airline tickets offer on Hong Kong's tourism industry, arguing that it may not be sustainable in the long run and could lead to a boom-and-bust cycle.

No offense. Don't wish to get caught in any planned/surprise riots there again to be honest😅And If you speak mandarin in HK unless you're Taiwanese (I guess) all reactions are mostly hostile. HK's anti-chinese situations & it's turmoil had gone over those anti-chinese citizens' heads (they hurt nobody but themselves mostly impacted the city as whole)!! Their actions had caused the city's own demise.

Oh and if you are Mandarin speaking Singaporean, don't even speak Mandarin but English....

MY VIEWS: the reason why you as a Hong Hong Hokie are even working & living in Singapore shows Hong Kong is FINISHED, TOTALLY GONE, BYE BYE HONGKONG, you even chose to be with a SINGAPOREAN, but this is smart, in Hong Kong the people there are mostly rude, pollution is bad, food is expensive, oily and dirty, accommodation is small & not even suitable for dogs, the morning air when you take in a deep breath is full of sewage stinking smell, sure get lung cancer very fast, the attractions Hong Kong Disneyland????, you would rather go Tokyo Disneyland or even Shanghai Disneyland, how about Ocean Park, please give me a break, the place is rotting, seems like stuck in the 90s, even give me free ticket i also don't want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been to H.K once just before 2000... I have to said its not a place I would want to go back again... at least not until I ran out of other places to visit... People then was rude... Everyone was rushing... The trains are packed... But the view from Victoria Peak at night is more beautiful than anything I've seen... But sadly, its not worth going back... Me and my family rather go Taipei, Taiwan...

@@IrenereneHK Mainly because as a holiday destination... both H.K and SG is too similar... small, tiny hotel room, packed, $$$$, rushing... make worst that nowadays so many H.K food also can be found in SG, no longer needed to go H.K for Cantonese food... except Roast Goose... LOL
