Put a little 5w20 oil in the cylinders to give the piston a little lube so it will roll over easier and will not scratch the cylinder. You can never use too much lube, when assembling an engine.

Your dad's front pocket on his shirt is legendary, fully accessory equipped. I thought my pen/tool pocket collection was extensive but he has me beat. Just wanted to mention that I wear one of those rechargeable built in LED baseball caps and it is extremely useful, so useful in fact that I feel disabled at work when I don't have it. JR, I believe the head does have lineup pins - check the manual. May have been removed to clean - deck the block. Also sounds like no oil on the rings and cylinder bores. Scratchy - Scratchy!

always back your lash off on the rockers prior to installing. you don't want to fight spring pressure when torquing the assembly down.

Filed the main bearing? No oil on rings or cylinders? No attention to piston ring end gap orientation on piston? No assembly lube on large rod bearing #1? No anti-shuffle pins on head or block? No assembly lube on cam lobes? My OCD just went off the chart watching this. I hope alot of that prep was just done off camera. JR you usually impress me with your fixes but this episode left me frustrated.
