Whenever I'm in San Francisco I always go to Japantown and have a bowl of ramen noodles and then shop at Daiso. What a cool store to browse. They have some neat kitchenware and other cute merchandise.

Daiso rocks! During my time in Tokyo, I lived a three minute or so bicycle ride away from one of their smaller shops and a 25 minute, or so, bicycle ride to their large shop located in the nearest mall. Those shops sell a large variety of goods. Glassware from Eastern Europe, chocolate from Malaysia, Japanese snacks, gloves for working in the garden, cookie/cake/muffin mix, silicon baking items and once I purchased the internal workings for the air valve on my bicycle. That was a shocker. When ¥100 shops first began appearing in Tokyo, some people were rather put off from shopping at such a cheap place. I remember watching the news when the first ¥100 shop opened in Ginza. Some people were not happy that the #1 known upscale shopping area had a budget shop 😂😂😂. Over time, minds changed and Daiso and other chains began to pop-up all over the city. There is a very big and popular Daiso in Harajuku right smack dab in the middle of Takeshita Dori (that super busy pedestrian street). Daiso also has at least one location in Taipei and I think I saw one in Bangkok.

Anyway, I remember going to a restaurant that had sushi and it was served on a conveyor belt which made it look like the sushi was on little boats floating on a river. We used to call it Sushi Boat but that wasn't its name. Did you happen to go by anything like that? Once again, Thank you and happy New Year!💖☮🐱

The person making the sushi would be standing inside and he would put sushi on the dishes and they would float around him. There's a Daiso on Market St. in the financial district, but it looks to be a lot smaller than the one you visited in Japantown.

Kawai (cute) is the word in Japantown. The Kinokuniya Bookstore is amazing there...Manga and anime books, dvds, and models in the ground floor and general books and magazine in Japanese and English on the 2nd floor.
