It's not only an Asian thing, my friend from Africa feels that way too. I am Indian and my boyfriend is American and he does not get the reasoning behind it. It is my duty to get a good job and provide and take care of my parents as they have done for me for the past 22 years. It's not about HAVING to do it, it's about WANTING to do it. I want to repay them back for all the sacrifices they have made for me. I would not have it any other way.

When your parents do so much for you, provide a roof, food on the table, clothes on our backs for so long, and continue to support you in hard times when you become an adult without any selfish motive; and despite the materialistic aspect of it, they show so much love! Its one of the most sincere relationship. They are happy in your happiness and sad in your sadness. How could you ever leave those people behind? To be its a right parents earn from the moment your born to be cared for. I'm surely dedicating my life to my parents as they dedicated theres to me. I see children as an investment. My roommate actually has that exact $20 Hamilton Beach blender, and I use it to make green smoothies all the time. It actually works fine. It just works best if you add each ingredient one at a time, but it's still doable and comes out pretty smooth!

Will people stop making it seem like those who put their parents in nursing homes are like the scum of the Earth and it's a bad thing. Not everyone has the time or resources to allow their elderly parents to live with them. Like my mom and her siblings. After my grandfather died nearly 2 years ago there was no other option for my grandmother. She has really bad Alzheimers and her doctors said that she should have had a nurse or been in a nursing home long before my grandfather died. My mom and my aunts and uncles work, have children and lots of things that they have to do that hinders them from being able to let my grandmother live with them. She has medication she has to take and she needs constant attention. Sure it would be great for my grandmother to live in one of her children's homes but that just wasn't an option considering her health and many other factors. Stop judging people because you don't know everyone's situations and what everyone goes through.

When you lay on your back pregnant it can causes something called supine (laying on back) hypotensive (low blood pressure) syndrome. Basically the babies are pressing on your vena cava ( main vein bringing blood back to the heart) it causes a drop in bp and light headedness. Just put a pillow or wedge under ur right side to keep you tilted to the left helps with that. The heart pumps out of the left side to the rest of your blood maximizing circulation. judy bear you made me cry because i know exactly how you feel. its not an asian thing though its an immigrant thing. we grow up knowing that our parents will eventually be our responsibility. the great thing is we look forward to it with great pride and sincere pleasure. in America ive noticed many children expect their parents to be there for them until the day they die!! they constantly talk about their parent's will and who gets what when they parents die. they do it with no shame!! smh. my respect for you went several notches higher. in jamaica where im from my parents spent every dime on us. no student loans etc. so not only do we take care of them the oldest sibling knows they need to help with the younger ones until everbody is done with schooling.
