@@stevebailey7633 I just read the same thing in a book on outdoor survival. Usually edge seasons where it's warm during the day and people don't bring enough clothes/shelter for when/if it cools off, gets windy or rains.

Congratulations on 500 miles - well done! More importantly though was your highlighting the need to be vigilant around hypothermia which is potentially life threatening - even above 32 - and no joke. All hikers should monitor their situation carefully. As a NH resident and lifelong hiker in the Whites there have been too many needless deaths and risky rescues of unprepared hikers who don't want to abandon the hike. Your vlog today provided and important message.

$90 for shuttle was highway robbery. Ugh.
@andymytys
@andymytys Жыл бұрын
Standard rates for shuttles are $2/mile minimum. Given how hard those mountain roads are on breaks and transmissions with repeated use, that’s not a bad deal. Taylor may have been charged for the round trip, which would be a fair amount. She might have also called the shuttle driver and asked for an unscheduled ride, and I’ve seen extra charges for that. If you’re breaking into someone’s time outside of their normal work routine, there can be an up-charge for it. Not unusual in any business. At the end of the day, if you don’t like what a shuttle driver charges, stick your thumb in the air.

C booster tablets are probably good to take along for days like this, you just drop them in a bottle water. I like the trail runners and Saucony peregrine are pretty dang supreme but I think for thru hikes rain pants and Vasque hiking boots ( love my Talus ultra dry pair ) are the way I'd go about it of course it's entirely subjective though.

Smart move getting off trail in those conditions. I don’t recall all your gear, do you have means to heat water for hot drinks? Don’t blame you if not! Save the weight! I camped in Grayson once at about 5200’ during the last waves of a tropical storm remnant moving through. Battered by winds all night long - not a hospitable place in bad weather! Congrats on 500!
