Mike and Zach hanging around in Novac tells me a lot about the modlist and the state of the Mojave.

The sun had begun to set over the Mojave, casting long shadows across the dusty streets of Goodsprings. Easy Pete sat on his usual spot by the town’s porch, rocking in his old chair, his eyes squinting as he gazed out over the horizon. The day was ending, but his mind was far from settled. Sticky, a young scavenger with a sharp wit and quicker hands, had just arrived in Goodsprings. He had a reputation for getting into trouble, but he also had a knack for making things work when no one else could. He approached Easy Pete cautiously, a little wary of the older man’s gruff demeanor. "Hey, Pete," Sticky called, his voice carrying through the still air. "You look like you’ve been sitting there all day." Pete looked over at him, his grizzled face twitching into a half-smile. "That’s 'cause I have, kid. Ain’t no rush for me. Time moves slower the older you get." Sticky chuckled, leaning against the porch railing. "Must be nice. Me? I’m always chasing after something. Got a few caps stashed away, but there's always more to get." Pete’s eyes softened for a moment, his gaze turning to the horizon. "Ain’t about the caps, Sticky. It's about havin’ a place that feels like home. You’ll figure that out one day." "Yeah, well… I’m not sure if Goodsprings is my home." Sticky scratched the back of his head. "It’s a good place, sure, but I got too many people to meet, too many places to see." Easy Pete grunted, leaning back in his chair. "This town’s been home to more folks than you’d think. Before the war, it was quiet, peaceful. But everything changes. You can chase things, kid, but you’ll come back to the things that matter." Sticky considered Pete’s words, unsure of how to respond. The old man wasn’t wrong, though. He’d seen plenty of people come and go in his travels-some chasing fortune, others simply looking for safety. "I’ll think about it," Sticky finally said, flashing a grin. "But if you see any more bottlecaps lying around, don’t think I’ll be able to resist picking ‘em up." Pete laughed, the sound a rare but warm thing in the cold Mojave air. "Just remember, kid, the Mojave’s got a way of takin’ more than it gives. Be careful what you pick up." As the sun dipped lower, Sticky gave a half-salute and walked off, his boots kicking up a little dust. Pete watched him go, the weight of his years pressing down on him. Maybe the kid didn’t know it yet, but he was more like Goodsprings than he realized, chasing something, sure, but with a heart that was still trying to find its place.
