Lap glitch. On version 1.2 of the game, if you go into the quick race menu and change the settings (for instance 1 lap) that will carry over into career mode. That glitch was fixed in 1.3 and Black Edition though.

It doesn't even need a mod. Just use the save corruption glitch: load a completed save file, load the main save file and done. You won't get the BMW (also all car customisation parts are unlocked, however you have to drive to the boss events rather than selecting them from the menu. It makes for a fun New Game+ mode).
