Let me first extend my congratulations to you and Mitch obtaining your boat licences 😁👍 I really enjoyed today's video, especially the 80s music scattered throughout the video, really looked and felt like one of those action movie training montages from the 80s. What I really admire about you is that you just do things. A lot of people would think about how nice it would be to have a boating license, and most people would definitely not go out to get it, and I'm pretty sure a lot of people would give on a project if it required something seemingly impossible (at least to me getting a boating license would seem impossible, but then again I can barely drive a car). But you just do it. And you just go on hikes in search for deserted villages or because you read about this thing once and need to see it for yourself. My anxiety and I are really envious haha. Also great 80's sitcom music choice!

Awesome video ... although I was thinking for ages, when you were on the boat with Mitch, "where are the hats?" Doing an exam at the same time as someone else you can bounce off of can be great as long as they are as motivated as you to do the exam (I had a professional certification a few years ago that a friend was doing as well so we sat the course at the same time and spent the evening going through things). But the big question would have to be ... Pugwash or Bird's-eye ?

Congrats Norm. It's interesting to see how a course is run in another country. Here in Australia (particularly in Sydney), things tend to be simpler with the course and exam being held on the same day. I was fortunate enough to have been apart of the Sea/Navy Cadets so I had a lot of prior knowledge. Word of advice, boat traffic is chaotic in Sydney Harbour, so it's not for the faint of heart. I remember when I was doing my practical, I accidentally reversed into the Restricted Waters of a nearby Navy base (there's 4 in Sydney Harbour) and was almost intercepted by one of their patrol boats, twice. Thankfully I passed.
@LanceJapan3 жыл бұрын
Gee, when I did my license test in Sydney about 40 years ago, I just got ask question mostly about stand off distances and we played boats on like a game board in front of us. I should not have got it really but the guy took pitty on me and let me go and see if I could kill myself and my friends (luckily I learned before stupidity caught me). So they make you do a prac test now.
@WT.....3 жыл бұрын
@@LanceJapan Yeah, they do now because apparently too many accidents/deaths occur because people weren't physically familiar with driving boats & reading signs. I'll let you know that I did my course 6-7 yrs ago. A retired maritime police friend of mine once told me that until those laws were introduced, police had an absolute field day with arrests & calls of property damage. They reckon part of the reasons the laws came about had to do with taxpayer money being wasted on infrastructure repair and clean up, because some people got stranded on rocks, despite the markers.
