it should be known that the dragon reborn bounty is equivalent to fighting the coronal hypershunt ships since after you beat that the big one it splits into a bunch of tiny ones. i only took it on late game when i had a ninth battlegroup paragon an astral and a bunch of other heavily kitted out smaller ships and i still lost half my fleet. basically, you didnt even beat stage one

It is hard but the thing is it can be fought using a bunch of Ludd IEDs. The best thing is if you have a capture crew mod installed, you will get him as an officer.

Starsector is way too good for how cheap it is. Even vanilla is amazing experience especially the main storyline around Galatia academy. But damn this game eats time like crazy you could play it for a week 8h a day and still be far away from acquiring perfect fleet or colony.

I wanted to do some bounty hunting too..... then i remembered i absolutely suck at combat and returned to smuggling.

Well, all that smuggling can get one a lot of credits- if you're already in the habit of making a profit wherever you head somewhere, then you can afford to burn an obscene amount of supplies and fuel- even enough to bounty hunt with a full invasion fleet and have it still be profitable enough for your time, especially if you get multiple bounties/exploration missions close by. Get a bunch of capitals and cruisers and outfit them with long range weapons, and set defensive waypoints on the tactical map, those'll keep your ships together and supporting one another in a fairly flexible fashion if you have a good mix of steady and aggressive officers- fewer ships per waypoint is the best way to do that since that way they'll stay a lot closer to the order you arranged them in. Advance or retreat the defensive waypoints to force your fleet to reposition itself if it either is failing to finish most of the enemy ships before they can vent, or to prevent itself from getting surrounded. It's great fun, albeit unwieldy and expensive at times. However, you just can't beat watching their bands of bums break against your fleet like the waves against a stone. I suck at piloting ships in Starsector, never been that good with remembering to use hotkeys when I'm processing strategic and tactical stuff in general, and when I try to I just end up spending too much time in the pause screen for it to feel anything other than tedious. Fortunately, that particular sort of gamer skill isn't needed to pummel your foes into submission in this game! The player fleet's AI is competent enough to make it a satisfying rather than frustrating experience once you get what triggers certain behaviors on their part, since on the micro level they're great at avoiding taking damage and using all their systems at the appropriate time

@@beansworth5694 Thank you for some tips, since i mostly refuse to follow some "meta" build then most of my ideas are subjective and not effective. I have recently fell in love with just spamming Sunders. They are fast, can hit hard and are stealthy enough for my smuggling party. But as you can imagine, they are too tiny to hurt the bigger fleets. And any bigger ship i try piloting gets instantly overloaded by weapons i never saw before. I need to find a larger ship i would like, because swarm of Sunders will not carry me all the way.

@@galedex5661 Try missile cruisers, Gryphons. Equip them with long range missiles to hit hard the larger ships, maybe some MIRV Launchers. I prefer Squalls, then get close with other ships to finish them. Works like a charm.

@@galedex5661 well, Apogees would probably work best for you since combat is not your priority but you want a solid cruiser Put an Autopulse laser in the big slot, expand the magazines and get hardened shields, put plenty of flux capacitors and vents and there you go, an exploration cruiser that's a tank with a good punch too Apogees are pretty rare on the markets tho, look for them in independent military or persean league markets

@@waywander9618 Thanks for tips! I kinda have to survive in this playstyle, because i installed mod that allows other factions to attack each other. Well, the tri-tachyon i joined decided it would be funny to be enemies with everyone, even when they are losing. I have to survive with fast stealthy fleet, but somehow get enough consistent firepower. I will try Apogees. Right now i am trying Fury, Sunders and Gryphon. I became bit more competent, but its still not enough for me to defeat Derelict mothership.

The weapons the ships had are weapons you can obtain in some rare bounty or loot from the tesseract (ships defending coronal hypershunt). they are insanely powerful. Also, you should try to get the ziggurat, it can help against this kind of ships... (it is very high tech )

Wdym rare bounty? Afaik in vanilla omega stuff is only obtainable in 3 places, 2 shunts and a hidden stash.

Haha, nice to see you enjoying the reckless piloting style of the flagellators. I'd recommend getting a commission from Ironshell and doing jobs for Caeda Celeste. If you max relations with her she gives you a hullmod that has similar effects to safety override and that can be put on capital ships.

Darren Hartley, also from Iron Shell, can give you a hullmod that gives your ships damper field in addition to whatever system they have, with a charge system and with duration and recharge speed that depends on how good shields are. Worse shields = better damper I think?

The name 'Flagellator' really fits for that ship. When you are not looking, it is ramming asteroid fields and docking rigs to inflict damage (Pain) to itself.

The dragon reborn had a shield damage multiplier of 0.27 with 38k Flux capacity that basically means the shield can take over 140k damage.... that's the equivalent of roughly 70 reapers.... wow And that's not even considering Flux dissipation

Terrasects are quite OP... Frigates swarm don't work on them unlike other capital ships and they split into more parts so fighting them purely with the use of capital ships can be very counterproductive... Harbingers are somewhat effective on the full sized ones but making a fleet composition fully composed of harbingers would make things bland and the player's skill are limited to 40 for phase ship's

i think you should get at least one guardian ship, arguably the most op automated ship of the game outside the doritos cuz it can continuously restock misiles idk if you can get it without a mod or what mod, but i consistently can salvage them when i go for terraforming rigs

Supposedly a good chunk of mods hide custom bounties you can hunt there. It might also be the IBB from Tahlan Shipworks but couldn't confirm. Either way, gonna find it in my current game if I can.

after watching some of your starsector videos i tried it out myself fukin hell i dont understand the combat in this game i died twice to the tutorial "rustbucket" without dealing more than 1/4 damage to the hull after that i took control of my tiny drone ship and let the big one do its thing and the AI destoyed the rustbucket in less than 30 seconds
