Mark kinda reminds me of my brother. While my brother doesn't hover over me nor is he overprotective, he's always been there when I needed him most. We're only 14 months apart, so we grew up pretty close to each other. He was my first best friend. Even though I was the older sibling, my brother was always the responsible and mature one. I even refer to him as my "big bro" most of the time because of this. Most people assume he's the older sibling anyways, so it's just easier that way. Whenever I got hurt, sick, or scared, he'd comfort me and be at my side until I felt better. As we got older, he went from not only being my best friend but also my hero. The first time I realized this was when I was about 11 or 12 years old. My brother and I attended a summer daycare camp in the city and on one particular day we all went to the big pool together. I was swimming in the deep end of the pool as I was a really strong swimmer and loved being in the water. Suddenly, I felt my heart beat slowly and hard against my chest. As quickly as it came on, I nearly lost all my strength and it became a struggle to keep my head above the surface. I tried screaming and signaling that I needed help, but I didn't have the breath to make a sound and just looked like all the other kids splashing in the pool. After what felt like an eternity, I finally lost the last bit of strength I had and began to drown. Luckily, just a moment after I went under, someone wrapped their arms around me and pulled me back up and swam me to the edge! It was my brother! We were playing tag together when he noticed I had stopped chasing after him and was acting weird. He knew me well enough that I wouldn't have just stopped playing with him without a word and realized that something must have been wrong. He started swimming back to check up on me when he saw me begin to drown. He swam to me like a torpedo and pulled me to safety just a moment after seeing me drown. He carried me to the nearest edge of the pool and, upon realizing that I couldn't climb out on my own, he adjusted my arms to hang onto the edge while he climbed out before dragging me out of the pool all on his own. He was only 10 or 11 years old doing this and he managed to pull me out of the pool to safety in 10 feet deep water! It was only as my brother was dragging me onto solid ground that people finally noticed what was going on and the life guards and camp councilors came rushing over to make sure we were okay. It also happened to be at this exact moment that our mom was on break and, working in the same building we were swimming in (it was a YMCA sorta building), came to check up on us. Mom nearly had a panic attack when she saw my brother and I surrounded my the councilors and life guards and me looking like a wreck. My brother did his best to calm me down as everyone was crowding around me and tried his best to explain what happened while I tried to catch my breath. When I finally caught my breath, I told them that there was something wrong with my heart but was starting to relax a bit. I luckily recovered after taking the rest of the pool time off to rest, but we were still pretty concerned about it. When my mom got the chance, she took me to a hospital to find out what was wrong with me and it turned out that I was having some minor heart issues. It wasn't anything serious, but did still had to be monitored and I had to take things easy that summer. And given the incident that occurred during my first attack, it quickly proved to be deadly if we weren't careful. Had my brother not taken notice of my situation when he did, I would have most likely drowned that day because of my condition. People called my brother a hero after that incident, but they didn't need to say anything for me to know that. I already greatly admired my brother, but that incident proved to me that my brother is my hero. My brother has saved my life multiple times afterwards, mostly from traffic, but that was the first time and the one that meant the most to me. Having a brother who knows you so well and is always there for you when you need him most is the best! If my brother didn't care for me as much as he did, I wouldn't be here today. It might seem strange for a sister to love her brother so much, but I can proudly say that my brother is the most important person in my life and truly mean it. My brother means more than the world to me, and there's nothing I could do to fully repay my brother for always being there for me. I'm very lucky to have such an amazing brother. My brother is the best brother in the world, and there's no way anyone can convince me otherwise.
