The Biggest Motorcycle Crash I Had
It was a beautiful Saturday during Summer day about thirteen years ago. My friend Robert and I went dirt biking up in the hills and we were having a great time. I wasn't a particularly good rider back then but knew enough to get by.
There is this one road we called "Powder Road" that connected two trails and boy was it powdery. You had to gun it all the way up otherwise you would not have traction. Trying to go slow and steady is pointless. Robert went up first. You have to wait a few minutes after other people go up otherwise visibility is zero due to the gigantic dust storm that a dirt bike creates there.
The dust settled, I pinned it and off I went. The ascent is squirrelly at best. You're really just holding on. I was probably going about forty miles per hour (64kmh) up this gnarly, powdery beast when my front tire dipped into a deep part of the powder. It must have been a rut that was completely covered by the soft, silty dry dirt. My front tire twisted and myself and the bike bucked up into the air.
I came down with my arm extended to brace my fall and at the same time, my bike was right next to me. As soon as my hand made contact with the ground, the radiator of my dirtbike crashed into my upper arm. I heard a "ping" sound.
I crashed hard. When I got up, I was shocked to see that my arm was just kinda dangling and I couldn't use it. That's because it was snapped in half! So there I was, in a house dust storm that I created with a broken arm and no one around. I started screaming for Robert but he didn't come. He was gone! I started freaking out checking to see If I was bleeding. I wasn't thank goodness.
Eventually, Robert came back down and calmly picked up my bike FIRST then checked me out haha! He went to the bushes and created a make-shift sling. We spent the next four hours getting our bikes down the mountain to get me to the medical center. I didn't want to go to the hospital or call the ambulance because it's expensive and we were riding on government land :p
I got to Kaiser, and had the most excruciating x-ray of my life. The X-ray tech was absolutely gorgeous and I was just there tearing up as I had to lift my broken arm up onto the platform. It hurt...REALLY badly.
No less than three doctors came in to see me after that and were more interested in the story than the actual, you know, BROKEN ARM. I guess they see this a lot. Anyway, they gave me the MOST morphine legally allowed in a shot, prescribed me some drugs and sent me on my way without fixing my arm. I was like what? "Your arm is very, very broken. You need surgery". Crap!
While waiting for the pain pills, the morphine kicked in. WOOOOO!! Boy was I floating now. There was no pain. I felt WAY too good. I was talking to everybody. I remember telling the security guard standing near the pharmacy that he was a great man and that he was doing a fantastic job. I little girl came up to talk to me and asked me what happened. I told her the story and her mom was just looking at me laughing like I was a complete idiot. Which is true.
THREE days later, I had the surgery and now I forever have a titanium plate in my arm.
My name is Curt and I have done this.

@@aleksandersiemaszko6027 Hm. Don't get me wrong, I have my Helson Shark Diver too (pretty typical tool watch- all brushed). I kind of do wish it was shinier tho. I think either I don't care to have a 'tool watch' just rather a pleasant watch that has good durability and water resistance. Or perhaps you're right, I just like a tool watch with some shininess - I think Seiko has the right balance with their watches as far as polished surfaces. Okay, yes Aleksander now that I have thought through this I do like a shiny tool watch. I am not sure if I have a problem. I think it is just preference.

I have the bb58 and it’s one of the most comfortable and attractive watches I own. I also, waited 2 years to find one in steel, so this clearly wasn’t an impulse buy. I recently got my Sub no date and was asked by a friend if I’ll now get rid of the bb58. My answer,..no. Sure, I’ll be wearing the Sub a lot more, but I still like the bb58 enough that I don’t want to get rid of it. The colors and modern vintage style still attracts me. If there’s no magic in it for you, than by all means, this isn’t the watch for you. Taste is subjective and at this price level you should really feel that vibe before buying.

I bought a BB58 last year, and it is my favourite watch. 1. Bezel action 10/10 2. Accuracy 9/10 3. Comfort 10/10 4. Details 7/10: Great apply indexes and hands, yet when you look it up on a microscope you can see some “problems” 5. Bracelet 7/10: Great bracelet in terms of build quality and in comfort, however the long clasp mechanism and the lack of proper on the fly micro adjustment and micro adjustment in general is a bummer. 6. Dial: 8/10 In the sun it looks awesome, in the dark even better, however I’d like to see a version with less text and perhaps with a glossy dial. So, here’s an idea: BB58 in titanium with a deep blue ceramic bezel with lume insert and a chalk ceramic dial with dark text and white gold indexes. Titanium bracelet with the new t clasp mechanism

I own the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue and its Black/Gilt sibling on steel bracelets to compliment a range watches in my collection, that includes the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for 20 yrs. The Tudor is a very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated yet vintage vibe. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on the original black and gilt version. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and both are a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex Sub in the absolute quality stakes - but why should they when barely 40% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed. Forget about the rivets - you can't see them when wearing the watch.

It feels like the shine has worn off of the BB58 because it is such a ubiquitous design and profile, and *everyone* has seen a thousand videos on youtube etc. about it. Some of the citizen Eco Drive dive watches have insane lume. Nice review of the BB ……… I’ve learned that higher end pieces are more of a perceived value and quality rather then actual quality. What up Curt! My brother is a big fan of Tudor, when I went to London he had me stop by Harrods to get on some waitlist for a special edition Black Bay that was thousands of names deep at that point so that watch never happened. He's also a big fan of their Submariner as it was issued to Navy Seals and other naval diving teams. I like the blue on blue black bays and would consider getting one, but the watch fund took a hit this weekend. Finally had to bite the bullet and get a new ac unit for the place. The watch fund is $6500 lighter now. 🙁 Gnarly arm break, as far as wrecks I've seen the worst of them happen to two of my friends I grew up with. Granted both of them were on the road. One got t-boned by an illegal who drove off and pretty much had his entire right side messed up, collarbone, arm, two vertebrae, hip, and femur. The other slid off the road and into a guardrail at a high speed and unfortunately passed in 07. That put my street bike days to an end. Yeah riding on dirt can be dangerous, but dirt is way more forgiving than asphalt. Also the way people drive around the DC area, it's a suicide mission to ride street around here. Anyways yeah after spending all that cash on a new ac, some drinking had to get done to dull the pain of all that so feeling it a little this morning. Definitely would like to see a brewery video with your local watch bros on site with the suds flowing to change things up a tad! If they are cool being on camera and all that. Hope you have a chill Sunday bro and can't wait for the adventure vid!

@minitwatch 2 жыл бұрын
What's up man! I know the pain! I dunno if I've mentioned this in a video or not but my water heater burst into FLAMES and caused some damage that resulted in a chunky bit of cash flying away from me haha! That one hurt a lot. I was about to buy a sick new electric guitar! I miss playing electric! I had to sell my coveted 2000 Eric Clapton Strat due to me needing some cash at the time. I wont say that I'm sick about that as I always found that one to not quite my style regardless of how beautiful it sounded and played. I want something a bit hotter. I don't particularly like to ride on the street either. The danger is very real even in rural places. During the "Discomfort 1000", I almost lost my life due to an error I made on a mountain pass highway. I forgot to look back at traffic before turning into a small, dirt rest area. The truck coming towards me had to slam on his breaks and my friends were all tripping out. That was my mistake and I always think about it. If the guy driving the truck had looked away just for a second, I wouldn't be here typing. I also don't have the need to go super fast. If I had a sport bike, I probably would build that need. It's like a drug and I speed-sober. Ish :p The next time we go out, I'll ask them. I'm sure they're okay with it and that would be a fun video! Have a rad Sunday yourself, man!

I've owned this model for a little over a year and then traded it in for the then new Oris Aquis Cal. 400 when it was released. For people who want to get luxury watches, servicing cost as much as a really nice watch. $500+. It will be more with precious metal, chronograph, and usually more complications the more costly. It can go into the thousands. They recomend 5 years or less some even go as far every 2 years. Even with Co axial can go up to 5 to 8 years. I have one luxury watch I dont anymore because it is to costly and I dont think it is worth it to maintain two luxury watches. I used to have a lot of mechanical, but now I have mainly have Quartz. Quartz keep better time, tougher, wont die on you after a couple of days, cost less to maintain, and solar you will never change out the battery.

I had the 58 for about 8 months and really loved it. I loved it but for some reason, I still wanted the Sub and to be honest, I didn’t like the faux rivets. I’m ended up selling it in order to fund my Sub. Great watch overall but I think it actually hurts the watch being attached to Rolex because it’s still considered the little bro and this watch needs to be on its own.

I have more watches than I really do need, at least according to my wife. I have a Black Bay GMT and really like it, I also have a submariner, a GS and other Seikos and Casios. For the most part the finishes of all the watches I own are similar but to be honest the more expensive watches have better attention to detail. The one thing I notice between the cheaper watches and the more expensive ones is the big difference is not what you see outside but the movement inside. 70 hour reserve is really nice and usually the more expensive watches are COSC certified and therefore should be more accurate. I really do think that there are some watches that are overrated and most watches are overpriced, including some Seikos and Casios, but if it brings joy to you as you wear it, and you can afford it, then it is worth it.

@@minitwatch 99% wristtime since I bought the OCW-S100 last year, 39mm, tough solar, multiband 6, titanium (matches with your titanium arm parts). great for small wrists. Still love the looks of my Sea Urchin but nothing beats a Casio, so comfortable and light on my spaghetti wrists. Nice Timex you mention, unfortunately here in Europe Timex watches are quite rare, Oceanus beats that by a mile but Timex is also quite rare to see in the wild. Btw. good to see your videos again showing up in my timeline, always a joy to watch!
