I bought my dream car, a 1978 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 Californian import. It's a really original car but it's far from perfect and does need some work. Join me on a walk around and let me know what you think of the car in the comments !

Congrats! I’m digging into a mustard 1978 FJ40 out of Alabama where it spent its whole life, in about the same shape as yours - except already in pieces which makes the clean up work so much easier. Putting it back together will be a fun challenge. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your progress.

I currently have a year-round daily driver 78 FJ40LV-KCJA. I've had 4-78s, 1-71 and 1-63. All of the 78 steel tubs have disintegrated no matter how much prep and under-coating applied. I had enough of that and purchased an Aqualu aluminum 3/4 tub and couldn't be happier, everything else is stock except for headers and power steering. Good luck on your build!

All the best on the journey! I have a Canadian 78 FJ40 about 90% completed after 6 years of pecking away. Was fortunate to get all the documentation including original bill of sale, cancelled check, warranty book and owners manual and service work orders. Looking forward to watching your rebuild. My ADHD wouldn’t allow me to video my resto! 😂 cheers

What a project, I think that's the bit best way to have a project, bit of rust on the outside but mechanically sound!

Couldn’t agree more it’s when you get cars that have been messed about with a lot over the years that the problems start. I’d rather have rust and original features any day 👍

Subscribed. Can’t wait to see the progress of this project. I have a 72’ California FJ40 that I purchased two years ago and have been mildly restoring it with my sons. They’re amazing vehicles and were built to survive. I believe the rear heater was either a factory option or a dealer option.

@@ianglaurie well the good news is you got a US/Federal spec truck vs a South American truck. Just about every part is available from Toyota today…but do it right, keep period touches and if you are a patina fan, keep that and go bonkers on engine, interior and under/chassis. That is the big trend right now here in US for these 40’s (I have a beige 1981 and love it)

Pretty sure the ignition key opens the gas filler door. At least that’s the way it works on my 74 FJ40. 😊 Looking forward to the progress.
