VPS (valve pause system stuck off) In this scenario, when the oil pressure sensor on the rear cylinder bank (bank 1) goes bad, the engine runs on 3 cylinders, even at idle! An easy way to diagnose this is to disconnect the sensor from the rear cylinder head and see of those 3 cylinders fire up.

Like others said in the comments, please check the timing! I had a 2004 Acura TL with a similar J-series engine. I replaced the timing belt but a few months later the timing jumped from a faulty timing belt tensioner. I had a horrible random misfire, soaked spark plugs, and had the same issue where the engine would stall during a power balance test. After weeks of diagnosis from myself and mechanics, putting the engine back in time with a new timing belt kit fixed my issue.

I got a 2007 Honda Pilot EXL with 197,800 miles on it. Had to do a 730$ engine rebuild on it because the valves and the heads were bent and had to do an engine rebuild to get it back up and running back to operational condition. Now it’s running and driving very strong now. Mine being an EXL includes the navigaton, back up camera, etc.... so I mean it’s got everything and anything a new car has except it’s not like a smart keyless entry. Or you know power trunk, etc.... but for the most part I love my Honda Pilot to death and it’s got the Aberdeen, blue exterior color and I love it so much. The transmission is perfect and it shifts and runs and drives like brand new now after the engine rebuild was done for. If it wasn’t for a little piece on the head that didn’t come loose or fell off and got stuck in it my engine wouldn’t of gotten any damage. My pilot ran like shit too as well after the engine had miracously broke down by the time it got home. So it took over a month for them to fix my pilot and diagnose it so anyways had to get the heads and valves to the shop to get bent back straight and also get new heads on one side just to get it back to operating and get it back to running and driving like brand new again. I love my Honda Pilot too much. It drives so smoothly and so perfectly down the road. Going 65 mph it sits at 2,000 rpm. Which is very good. I also have VTM-4WD which is really nice and helps a lot too. So hopefully my Honda Pilot should last along time too now after the engine rebuild.

I would say it is an electrical issue and those 4 coils are not receiving the signal to fire, I would test for that. Just pull a plug out and connect the coil to it and see if fires (sparks) when the engine is cranked or use a plug that is just sitting around. No spark it is an electrical problem, if they spark then carry on fuel and air issues. No spark maybe the engine control module or there maybe a a resistor bank where 3 of the resistors are bad (assuming cylinders share a resistor) or wiring.

I started to think the crank position sensor was bad since I noticed it had a previous leaking power steering pump and those leak directly into the timing covers I figured the CPS might have oil in between the connector. Soo I took it apart and sure enough the connector had oil in it and there was allot of crud and gunk in between the crank shaft and magneto, I'm hoping there was a disturbance signal because of that and reason it was causing the multiple miss fire.... haven't has a chance to put back together yet but im crossing my fingers that fixes my issue.

With the misfires you are having are going to need to figure out which valve is throwing the misfire code. The issue is going to be one of or a combination of bad spark plug, ignition coil, fuel injector or cable. I would do the full tune up and replace them each and if its still doing it, I would look at the timing belt and maybe even the fuel pump. If it's still struggling do a compression test and pray that you don't need to have the engine rebuilt or the piston rings replaced.

@NickMyers14 жыл бұрын
If timing belt was done three years ago, it isn’t timing. Or not likely. Nothing jumped. You need to smoke that engine and look for vacuum leaks - I can hear it even with intake tube on. Once engine is sealed, I think next is time for wiring review. The fact that the plug and coil swap changed nothing suggests this! I doubt injector issues. And while the fuel pressure could be a problem it doesn’t match the symptoms currently. See if you can acquire the ignition coil wiring diagrams from each cylinder to the pcm. Verify wire integrity. Ohm it out. Verify power and ground signals. A corroded ground wire, broken connector, chaffed wire that rubbed through from a missing wire hold down... the salty south Florida climate does no favors. Hope it’s something like that - wiring repair is infinitely cheaper just much more time consuming! Good luck.
@bigalsbikeandauto4 жыл бұрын
Nick Myers that vacuum leak sound you hear is the idle air control valve, which I have tested and replaced and it’s still doing the same thing.
@NickMyers14 жыл бұрын
Big Al's Bike & Auto ok cool. Well if vacuum is good, you’re onto electrical now. Putting the load of pulling the car forward on 2 cylinders won’t work. By having no change in running with coils plugged or unplugged that’s my clue. And since you hot swapped coils and plugs and it stayed the same, with all the plugs being soaked in gas (meaning injectors are firing) - you have an electrical wiring problem. Not sure how Honda commands coil firing - common power with command via ground on PCM? Or? If you can test the connectors and see if you have power and ground to them based on the requirements from Honda you will get some additional clues. Have any friends at a shop or dealer that can provide schismatics and parameter values ? A test light and a volt meter is all that should be needed to test for now.
@MrWoodyBalto4 жыл бұрын
@@NickMyers1 I agree with your assessment for the same reasons. It has to be an electrical issue. Those 4 coils are not getting the current needed to fire for some reason.

Just an advice, Before you start buying parts, you should do simple tests before like combustion and compression test, vacuum leaks, check the fuel pressure test before the injectors. It could have been the fuel pump This Pilots 2003-2004 are typically have bad fuel pumps because there's a filter inside the fuel assembly that get clogged and it has to be replaced completely. I know because I still have my Pilot 2004 and all those symptoms came into my pilot and after replaced the entire fuel pump assembly all great. I also replaced the plugs and coils and is running great. This models 2003-2004 are also typically have bad transmissions, so it is imperative to change oil every 30k miles.

I watch half of the video to be honest, I just gave you an advice, before buying parts is always good to make all the proper test first and you will save time. You purchased the TPS sensor kit and an EGR that you might not need because you said that the problem was fixed with the replacement of injectors. If you do the Fuel Pressure test at first you would have detected the problem at the beginning and didn't have to buy EGR Valve and The TPS kit of an junkyard. I know that sometimes cars are hard to guess, but it just a humble opinion. Have a great day. I will watch the all video.

Jose the first test that should ever be conducted is a simple OBD2 scan, which revealed a code for the TPS sensor, so I changed it. Did you rule out a valve job? It sounds like that’s the issue.

I have I'm driving a 2005 Honda Pilot with 365000 miles I'm not kidding same engine and transmission the only thing I did was change the timing belt right away and water pump the key to keep driving this trucks with no problems is changing the oil every 3 months and you're not going to have no issues I don't know about 2003 .2005 I believe they have different transmission on it

The Transmissions never really had a issue it was the clutch set up that honda used on the j series transmission that made them terrible especially one its a heavy vehicle

Those people must not value money. Running J35 in ANY condition is 500 to 1K dollars on ebay. Trans for an easy grand. Body without engine will sell for a cool 250 for scrap. Many spare interior parts that will sell quickly. Practically gave that thing away.

Was going to suggest plugs, (since I had a similar misfire issue on my MDX) but obviously you ruled that out. How old are the plug wires? Also, any chance you filmed taking the bottom part of the seat cushions off? The seats in my MDX are either going to need to be recovered or replaced pretty soon. I am looking forward to the next video.

Wow, just 2 cylinders. Will this coil pack diagnostic test work the same way on similar engines, like the 4.6L Ford? I sure hope that the cat isn't clogged up as well. I'll be paying attention from this point, I want you to succeed getting this thing running right! Thanks & Good Luck!

A close friend of mine had an 07 and the CEL came on and showed all of the same symptoms as yours, ended up needing all 3 catalytic converters replaced! $1000 job, yikes! He got a new Camry soon thereafter lol

check for a vacuum leak and my guess is the plugs that connect to the injectors could be bad and only to are getting the power the other is getting power. when I say plugs I don't mean the spark plugs but the ones you unplugged that connect to the injectors. fuel going into the cylinders but not firing also check and see if fuel is pouring out the exhaust.
