Seriously!! If buying one of these, people should get the highest spec and the most options available.. His i3 has the lowest interior option and the least options on it, not counting the REx.. The sport version with the REx that is fully loaded and has the 42kw battery is by far the best, that being said, its still a dated car. BMW really should have developed the car more by now. It should have a range of at LEAST 200 miles and charge at a rate of 100kw or more, 200 plus horse power, and the self steering should automatically be enabled in the car. If BMW had did this the car would be more competitive and certainly worth its sticker price.

Randy, this is my favorite i3 initial reaction video of all, unseen and undriven as was my purchase! And, I found this video AFTER watching your adventurous trip to LA, during which you kept me spellbound. From day one you were totally justified in opting for REX, unlike me who wisely opted for a 2017 BEV. Both of us are justified by our preference. You road tripped in it, I only city drive with the exception of having brought mine home in Eco Pro Plus mode starting with a full 124 mi charge. I knew it would be close but my anxiety was limited by being in mostly mixed residential and commercial areas with a plan of door knocking to buy a couple hours of 120v electricity on my factory charger (12 miles for 2 hrs lol) while I read my Kindle. I didn't need to humble myself after all, and even put her into Comfort mode 6 miles from home and goosed it on U.S.1 to 70mph from a full stop to see if it could keep up with my Chrysler Limited 200 3.6. My money would definitely be on the i3! If I did need to make a road trip which at my age of 75 won't happen, I'd just rent a gasser. Your 2018 is a beauty, especially with the blue trims! I've loved the i3's pug look from day one. I have been watching many i3 videos over the past month, now that I have a year and half+ of i3 ownership under my belt. Randy, "whoda thunk" we'd ever build 30% equity into our used EVs in just over a year? Crazy, right? It really doesn't matter because my 'Litl Blue' ain't going nowhere until I'm gone. I have had my “Litl’ Blue” 2017 BMW i3 BEV 33Kw 94Ah since 01/25/2021. I bought it in showroom condition from an original owner with 24k on the odometer. I’m 75, and drive it about 30-100 miles a month mostly to pick up online ordered groceries and to visit the VA clinic. I use a 240V, 16A (3.84Kw) Level 2 charger in my carport routed inside as an alternate device to my dryer outlet. I gain 13.5 miles per hour of charging up to 124 to 137 miles, and from home my electric cost is $0.031 per Mile which at an average gas price of $4.00 per gallon equates to 129 MPG. If there is a more perfect EV out there, I simply don’t want it. I don’t need more range, acceleration, styling, features, reliability, comfort, handling, or value. Litl’ Blue is obviously my Forever Car. Paid $16,500 but was offered $22,400 by Edmunds/CarMax 4 months ago which tickled my worn out ego. You may name yours too.🚙

I was debating between the I3 and the Chevy volt years ago for my wife and ended up getting the Chevy volt, seems like a way better value! They were only a few grand apart. 110k mile later we didn't regret it, the Chevy volt is still running like a champ!
@mamadouaziza25363 жыл бұрын
So you think if you got an i3 it wouldn't still be running like a champ? Two completely different cars and two completely different driving Dynamics... The i3 is a 100% EV, the Volt is not. The Volt is a very good car and so is the i3. The i3 has that German rear wheel drive pedigree and it is excellently built. The only other EV that I can think of that has a more upscale build quality in the same price range as the i3 is the Benz B Class 250 EV.. The new 2021 i3S is an engineering marvel!
@duster4973 жыл бұрын
The i3 rex he bought has a gas engine generator like the Volt, so both are Extended Range Electric Vehicles. The generators run the electric motors that propel the vehicles. The Volt can be easily driven in all electric and has a much better over all range. I've driven both, love both, but the tires on the i3 are it's downfall. Bought a 2017 Volt November 2020 and have put on 8000 miles doing delivery for Amazon. I absolutely love my Volt, it's solid, quiet, easy and fun to drive. And very comfortable.
@mamadouaziza25363 жыл бұрын
@@duster497 The REx in the i3 does not power/run the electric motor, the battery runs the electric motor. The REx only makes electricity to power/charge the battery and it is the battery that powers the electric motor.. Even if the REx has some gas in it but the battery is fully exhausted the i3 will die, stop. It is the battery that is doing all the work and it is the battery that will drain of power quickly when if the i3 is driven hard. The REx has no power to the drive train.. BMW did a horrible job marketing and explaining the REx. The REx also have limitations in the USA market and this is why owners have coded their REx to turn on manually at will once the battery drops below 75%, doing so and the battery will drain a lot slower as long as there is gas in the tank. BMW should have just marketed the REx has a battery holder that allows the battery to drain at a slower pace.. People just think that once the battery is drained that a powerful gas engine will engage and suddenly they have an inline 4 Three Series..

Gimme a break... You really think the original owner paid $50k for this sub compact plastic economy car? The car rolled off the dealer's lot at around $35k with all the incentives in place. EV technologies evolve very quickly and this is a purposely built city car for a niche market. It has a small battery, lightweight materials and a max 50kw charging speed, all purposely done by BMW.. Newer EVs have far bigger batteries, faster charging speeds because of the bigger battery and these heavier EVs need more horses to pull them because they are heavier.. So of course the i3 and older EVs will depreciate quickly because their tech is older.. However, that doesn't mean these older EVs are junk.. Even a 2018 Model 3 is considered dated and has lost value.

You should have read the fine print in your warranty... Warranties for an EV are specific to the EV and you have to make sure the warranty states that it covers the battery, charger, drivetrain, all electric components, the motor, the REx etc.. You have to also make sure there are no deductions.. Also some warranties will only cover $2000 total in repair costs per year..

That nav is dismal and he has no adaptive cruise control or self driving in the car. He does have the REx which is a plus in some cases.

@@AutoAuctionRebuilds lets say "not great" because my dad is at the hospital right now (from yesterday) for some ""minor"" heart issues, hopefully already fixed today.

"Stop check tires...." as cute as this experience is, this is why having humans around is a good thing. Between the tires and the charge, I'd have been really upset.

I'm glad to see this car on your channel! I have been thinking about a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV or a Chevy Volt. Looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks for the hard work you do!

Front tires remind me of my Chevette in terms of width. (2nd car I have ever owned)

I have a Chevy Spark EV and it is not a clunky car. Seats are fine. I bought mine last year for 1/2 the cost of yours with 13,000 miles. I would watch what car you cut down until you actually own or drive it.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds3 жыл бұрын
Of course it's half the cost, it's a Spark lol.

This was a test vehicle after BMW took over Smart and Mini. It's an amalgamation vehicle. They were designed to be city cars where parking is non existent and traffic barely moves. I think you have heated and ventilated seats which would be nice. The real market though was Europe and England especially. There is a story behind the i3 and the i8 and now the iX. There was supposed to be an i5 that was larger and was just an electric full size Mini Cooper.

Volt n bmw i3 both have gas engines , battery packs and electric ⚡️ drive motors. That makes them both hybrid in my book.
