I still think these and the e60 5-series BMWs are the best they have ever made (apart from the e39 m5, which in my opinion is hands down the best BMW ever made). I just recently drove a brand new 2022 540i and I would still rather drive the old raggety e60 530d with 300k+ miles (yes, we have one in the family). The heavy steering you are "complaining" about is what makes it such a great car. You feel the road really well instead of being able to do everything with your pinky and feel nothing at all. Also, the engine in the 330d is basically bulletproof if you look after it and the gearbox seems to hold strong too. Obviously the e9x 330d is an expensive car to maintain, but then again it is one of the best cars ever made.

Blower motor failures are usually due to the resistor unit, which for my X5, was less than £100. The key fobs are supposed to charge when plugged into the dash, so may just be the battery. Oil change intervals for BMWs (and many other manufacturers) are often on the high side as they like to woo the fleet market and this reduces service costs. Some windscreen cleaner on a cloth can be used to clean the wiper blades, that may sort the noise out there. And bonnet cables snap, as they do on many cars, fix it before it gives up altogether.

You never "clean" your wiper blades, specially standard rubber ones. If you scrub them you actually Make them worse, wiper blade rubber creates oxcidated layer on top of the soft rubber and as soon as you force clean them they Will turn bad... Besides, you should change wiper blades at least once per year unless you live in no rain zone...i change blades twice per year but i live in Finland where you actually use wipers for half of The year and winter weather really destroys all wipers, rubber made and silicone ones.

Got a 330d myself on a 06 plate. Done 188,759 miles and STILL going strong. Sadly the DPF is about life expired (got the DPF light on). But still might get it cleaned or remove it as it's such a brilliant car!
@tamhamilton30362 жыл бұрын
Check the fault codes. A DPF is a dumb unit with no moving parts. They do eventually clog with ash (only the spot can be burned off during a regen), but most often DPF issues are just a symptom of something upstream being out of order.

Buy a set of original BMW wiper blades . They are only about £57 for a set of 3. Same engine this as the 530d and they are pretty bullet proof if regular oil / fuel filter changed. Auto box much more desirable on these. Noticed original BMW Carlisle plates on these front / back good sign. This car was originally pre registered by BMW at it's site in Thorne Yorkshire. You can tell by the Y prefix on the plates.

I used to have a 320d of this shape 3 series (a 2010 car) and it's difficult to describe just how good they are until you drive one. Extremely punchy for a 2 litre turbo diesel and handles like a dream, considering it's a basic family car.

6:10 Of course the oil is black, 5 miles after changing it will turn black again! Diesels discolor oil very quickly so this is normal.
@biska1312 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is what 3 mechs told me during regular oil change in my new Ford, sadly there was no 4th. Dirty oil killed the engine.
@tamhamilton30362 жыл бұрын
@biska131 There's 8L of oil in this engine though, and it rarely suffers from any oil related issues, even with long oil change intervals. The oil in mine is black as the ace of spades after 1000mi, but still in grade and no signs of wear according to used oil analysis after 15k miles.
@jamest51492 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, the value of that BMW in Spain with 300,000km on it would be about 5k… all cars here have no rust or corrosion, done 300k+ km because everyone goes to work and back twice a day because of siestas (🤷) and worth 15x that of the equivalent car in the UK.

Compstall Brow memories. In 1974 a friend of mine bought a Reliant Supervan. (He only had a motorcycle licence). It was high mileage and used as much oil as petrol. We actually got overtaken by a double-decker bus while ascending Compstall Brow ..... first gear, foot to the floor. Never been so embarassed, it was like Stirling Moss lapping a backmarker!

i have the exact car. the wheels crack, the suspension is very hard on the runflats so potholes are a complete nightmare. the paint on the interior wears away which is annoying. Engine wise with regular oil changes (turbo shares the same oil) all good. Electrics are a problem due to the boot opening and shutting the whole time. Plus points are with a chip you get 275bhp and 600nm of torque and 44 mpg on a motorway run. Oh if there are any engine faults the DPF wont regen (failed coils). old fuel filter also will stop regen. 231 hp as standard. 6 speed auto needed a service at 100k. yes starters go after 10 years. BMW radio wont turn on sometimes due to optical link cable getting pinched under rear seats. Blower motor failure was a recall fix (check if its been done maybe) Window motors fail but are £80 off Ebay. Carly works well on mine and you need one to recode a new battery (even if same battery) Oh and the start button wears out but again get a new one from Amazon. Failed coil will stop DPF regen. Front suspension bushes wear out every 15000 miles and it goes through rear tyres at a rate of knots.

Colour is called sparkling graphite metallic and power is 231bhp (I'm an even bigger nerd and I used to have a 55 reg saloon in the same colour!), power increased to 245bhp in 2008 when they facelifted it. The 218bhp 30d engine was used in early versions of the E60 530d.

I completely agree with you, the car is still worth more because of the state is in, and yes in Spain it would be lot more expensive, probably you would only get the set of wheels for that money. And every time that I see an engine of that kind I always think that a proper repro would make it run better and make it last longer. I would like to have that car here in Sweden for a lot more than what you paid.

My first car was a 1979 Ford capri 1.6 GL 3 speed automatic (alltobollox) I bought it for £120 back in the nineties. The list of things wrong with that were longer than a roll of andrex bog paper. There was even a red ants nest underneath the carpet in the foot well. The starter motor needed a whack to free up the solonoid, a leaking head gasket. The heater matrix was disconnected presumably because it was leaking also. The single choke carb was fooked too. I could go on and on but you get the picture. I did eventually get most things sorted and drove it around for a couple of years before selling it and getting another.

Back in 2011 I had a brand new 330d M Sport Tourer in the same grey with cream leather interior as a company car. Mine was fully loaded with a semi automatic box, I loved that car. To see one up for £500 is staggering to me, it doesn’t seem that long ago I had mine and I think it was £40k+. Sort the wipers/brakes and run it into the ground, bargain of the year 👏👏👏

I bought mine in 2010. Its got 314,000 on the clock now. Fully loaded, pro nav, heated seats, blue tooth telephone, hk radio with a hard drive built in for music. I remapped it at 58,000 to 330 hp and 460 lbs torque, with full unblocking of the egr dfp swirl flaps and even the cat. Also put a birds bmw lsd and handling pack on it. Nice improvement in traction and body control ride quality. Turbo responce is better without the filters and i got huge gains in fuel consumption or lack of. Used to get mid 50s mpg, now its mid 60s mpg on the motorway. I have had over 160 mph in Germany. I recommend oil & filter changes every 10k not 18k as required. Also service the gearbox oil and filters every 100k. Timming chain every 150k. Handling balance and steering feel and feedback is much better than the F30 or new G20. Mines weighs only 1540 kgs, the new 330d hybrid is well heavy over 1800kg and not as nimble. I tried both the F30 and G20, BMW took a huge step backwards in driver involvement and steering feedback. I asked the bmw dealer why no 6 speed manual... No demand for it. So im keeping mine as a longterm daily driver while looking for an Alpina D3 version as a 2nd car.
