I love your channel, we appear to be very similar humans to a degree. However it did bring a nostalgic smile to my chops, watching your initial appraisal of this new acquisition I was swanning around the motor trade for about 30 years, and the adrenalin of going to the main dealer after buying 6 or 8 cars (in a job lot), that were described over the phone by a slightly wonky salesman is something even to this day I really miss. I can tell you now, I have bought some pure gold, as well as pure mullock It is such a mixed bag of a career, you never know what would land on your lap from one day to the next. The most fun filled days of my life revolved around second hand cars, and the thrill of the chase. Thanks for the videos, they are not only factually accurate, but also well presented. I was exactly the same as you to some extent, wanting to rescue every stray dog of a car from the tip, but you are right about being more realistic with deciding if its a lost cause. Best wishes.

Old low mileage cars are often not great at all. Not driven enough and left sitting for long periods which means rubber seals dry out, fuel in the tank is poor quaility when left over time the engine in these types of cars is also used for small trips where the engine hardly gets warm. You are also more likely to get electrical problems as mould and damp infest the car. Old low mileage cars also haven't had many of their parts replaced as there has not been enough use to wear them out completely meaning you get an old car with lots of parts that are near deaths door. Low milage manuals that are old also often have burnt out clutches usually from OAPs who are not fit to drive burning them with poor driving. Any car that has done on average less than 3k a year over its lifetime I would actively avoid for the above reasons. A lot of these old low miles cars are clocked.

After lusting after one of these as a kid, my sister bought a Y-reg hatchback a few years ago for her first car. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it drove...when it wasn't broken 😂 ignition coils, coolant temp sensor, alternator...the list went on. They both absolutely adore them - and they both have flowers in the vases!! Yes, they seem to suffer window problems, the roof on one is similarly awful... But, although I feel a bit embarrassed driving them, they're quite a lot of fun in the summer and the engines/gearboxes are pretty reliable.
