Laughed my head off at the readers 😂 Such a shame, the previous owner has obviously thought ‘I’ll drive this into the ground’ and then got bored of that idea. That would have made a perfectly retailable car if the previous owner had just serviced it, changed the cam belt and had a mini valet done once a month at the local car wash 🤦🏼♂️

Why MUSTthe previous owner do anything at all for the next owner...evidently they got 2.6k out of the car that was worth 5 k on a garage forecourt....years of motoring on a budget...the previous owner is not in it for a car dealer ...

doesn't need a valet, just keep the mechanical stuff in good order, and clean the windows, headlights etc. Plenty of people are too fond of polish and haven't a clue about the mechanical side.

@@roadwarrior8560 I much prefer to drive around in a clean vehicle with clean carpets and cupholders etc. My car isn’t pristine by any means, I use it day in day out for my business but I do set aside an hour or so a month to give it a good once over. 6 years and 173,000 miles later it’s as fresh as a daisy and gets a clean report every time it goes to the workshop for a service
@danecowan678 Жыл бұрын
@@martyngturner I think you’ve got me wrong. The point here is if they had bothered to have it cleaned every once in a while and serviced to a better standard then they’d definitely have got closer to £3500 for it - possibly even £4000. Plus it would have been a much nicer vehicle to drive around in. A lot of people just don’t value their possessions anymore - they let them fall into disrepair and then throw them away or else try to make it someone else’s problem. You get me?

@@martyngturnerat attitude can certainly backfire on them, if they skip oil changes or other care their car is going to live to the ripe old age to 3 months and look like hell when it's parked at the supermarket. Rented one in Germany back in 2012. Wasn't a bad car, kept the pace on the Autobahn thanks to the 2 litre diesel with a turbo bolted to it. It had the navigation system, but not all European countries maps were loaded, so once one was outside of Germany or Austria, the thing went blank. Obviously, the rear seat headroom is compromised a bit due to the body style, but that was OK, but I was the only person. One thing I did not like about it was the electric button parking brake, but that is common these days. Was never sure how it worked or whether it worked at all. I do wonder why VW made it, though. Wasn't all that practical, was a bit on the large size for European parking spaces or garages, and it didn't have all that much personality...felt like a well designed kitchen appliance rather than a car one would get all tingly at the prospect of driving it.

We kept on looking after it after three years, and we still have it today, it is used daily, and it is still going strong. I often see very old cars that are still on the roads today like Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, Ford, Nissan, Audi, Mercedes etc, and with that I think there a lot of good eighteen year old cars out there with a five year plus life span. Would you consider consider doing a video on buying an eighteen year old car, and which are the best ones to buy?

Oil filler cap on the right side means that it has already the ea189 gen 2 CFFB (140HP) or CFGB (170HP). This engines are very reliable, timing belt is every 210.000 and they run and run even if used and abused.

I had a wonderful cc gt, the 170bhp model with the xenon, newer led rear lights similar interior except pristine clean and traded her in for a 6 series! It was literally handed keys to dealer and drove off in 6 series! But it was a wonderful car, got out of it as was losing money on it with crappy pcp deal...Good review but shows how not to take care of your car!

I have a -09 Passat CC with now around 155k miles / 251k km on it. Did cost me around 13k euros about 2 years ago, but it has a very detailed service history (and has had DSG oil + filter changed every about 60k), has the 3.6 BWS engine and decent options. Oh, and Haldex also has been serviced along with the gearbox. DSG has never failed, this has the better DQ250 which isn't as prone to dying as the dry-clutch ones are. I've driven about 17k km and it has been reliable. Biggest issues have been broken rear springs (80 euros per spring + labor to replace them), rear-view mirror glue failed last summer and also the driver-side (left) door mirror came off - these cost me like 90 euros total. In the beginning of my ownership it did have some stubborn check engine light stuff, which was caused by some fuel tank venting thing, which I don't recall fully as what part that exactly was caused by. It was cleaned thoroughly and since then, it's been fine. Also needed to replace the xenons and other light bulbs. Runs well, pulls well, sound is magnificent as it's a VR6, looks good. Interior is annoyingly of the rattling kind and sound insulation isn't great, also not on par with my previous Audi A4 from 2005 quality-wise, but otherwise it's been a great car so far. Oh, and I need to add engine oil once during a 7-10k km change interval. Wish I bought slightly newer one due to them having a better interior quality, apparently. And damn these frameless windows during Finnish winters... Thankfully mine does have an auxiliary heater with remote control, it's a must with this. At -10c they can freeze up, but oh boy - do they freeze at -30c!

@EFerrorfile Жыл бұрын
@@prezlamen7906 The newer CC doesn't have the interior issues, as far as I know. Also Arteon could be a great choice. That thing makes a CC look "dull", especially the front of it.

I recently bought a really immaculate one lady owner (address on V5 indicated rural Sussex area) 59 plate 2.0 manual tdi Passat estate with 116k miles and 'some' service history (oil was changed at 115k along with new pads and discs plus a set of spare pads thrown in) no rust anywhere for £3,400 with 6 months MOT. I immediately spent £600 on cambelt/water pump replacement which I was able to observe in the garage and I could see there were no leaks anywhere. Front left side rim could do with a refurb but all five tyres are in great nick. I've given it some beans on a few very long motorway runs and it's smooth as silk. With such high mileage, I'm prepared for the likely running gear deterioration and possible injector problems which are not unknown. I use the electric parking brake as little as possible as they're also known to become troublesome. The Passat platform is an extremely comfortable large-ish machine and it needs looking after properly. I think it would be foolish to imagine/hope that such a vehicle can be run on the cheap.

I was in the market for a CC or an A5 some years ago. It always surprised me that the VWs started to show some rust while the same age or older Audis never had any. I don’t know if it says something about the owners or if there is a big difference in metallurgy in the different VAG-factories. It was one deciding factor for me to choose the Audi. (still have the A5 and will keep it forever while the wife drives the newer cars)

I 100% agree with you about smoking especially in a car it just completely ruins it and realistically it’s incredibly hard to get rid of the smell. The car reminds me of a budget CLS….

Many of us older folks were brought up in a time when smoking was not only tolerated, but fashionable. Cigarettes were advertised in newspapers, magazines, on bill-boards, at cinemas and even on TV. Many famous people (including royalty, film stars, musicians) smoked cigarettes, and to vilify us for it now is unfair. If the previous owner was as young as Matt then of course he/she should have known better. Modern 'men' are obsessed with grooming products, eating fruit and fibre, cleanliness, tidiness, home improvements and the freedom to criticise those that came before them. The previous owner probably didn't smoke in the car specifically to ruin it's resale value, but because he enjoyed it (or was addicted to it). Either way, smoking cigarettes is still legal and therefore a personal choice (stupid or otherwise). Perhaps Matt should have viewed the car BEFORE he bought it in order to spare him from the horror.

@@sputumtube Fair point. It's always been my first question when I have enquired about a second hand car - "Has it any evidence of having been owned by a smoker?". If the answer is yes, it's end of conversation because I've found you can never quite get rid of the smell. That said, I bought a car a few years ago which smelt really lovely on the test drive although I couldn't quite detect why. After I bought it I found that the driver's seatbelt was drenched in very strong perfume and every time I drove it I emerged smelling like a perfume dept. It took a VERY long time to fade away!!!
@adamkightley Жыл бұрын
@@sputumtube while i sum what agree with what you are saying that cigarettes were very much a fashionable thing my grandparents and one of my parents smoked but never in the car. I don’t see how it’s “vilifying” it’s an honest opinion which people are aloud to have. If people want to smoke in their cars then that’s up to them weather they’re young or not it doesn’t make a difference and I don’t judge people at all for it. Times have changed yes but I think actually when it comes to being obsessed with the things you said it’s quite diverse of how many generations are getting on board with being healthier and being pro active with their lives. Of course no one buys a car with the intention of ruining its resale value and like I said the it’s up to people how they treat their own vehicles but judging by that CC they valued smoking over maintaining their car. Matt is in the car trade it’s quite common to buy a vehicle site unseen the people selling it to him arnt just going to say “oh btw it’s absolutely plastered in nicotine” just not a realistic expectation.

My dad bought a 2011 cc gt in white with the same wheels in 2020, after lockdown wasn’t ready to go back to a lease yet. It was such a nice spec, tan and wood interior, pan roof, heated electric memory seats, heated power folding mirrors, front and rear parking sensors and the ultra comfy adaptive suspension and it was the 170 bhp 2.0tdi. Only had it two years before writing it off, wasn’t the most reliable thing to be honest as needed quite a lot over his ownership, but the insurance gave him what he paid for it after the crash, by which point he’d put about 30,000 miles on it.

Every 2.5 years a new Granada, W123 or W124. Ford delivered the new cars with pristine headliners and after a few years, everything was yellow-brownish, except the part underneath the sun visor.... And the smell....
