I bought a Delorean!

I bought another dream car and it's RED... again...
Follow this build of my New (to me) 1981 DMC Delorean.

Like the video!! Fellow DeLorean Owner myself. VIN 04228. Very happy to see you make a solid choice and get a DeLorean. . However I would definitely take the red off and take it back to stainless steel. I did want to correct one thing you said. Bill Collins, who was pivotal in producing and getting the DeLorean to the market is on tape saying multiple times they didn’t own a paint booth at the DeLorean factory in Belfast. He and several other key players have mentioned multiple times that no DeLorean was ever painted.. ever. Any DeLorean painted was always done after they were built by private owners. There were only two gold plated DeLorean‘s made that was part of an American Express campaign. A third one was in the works and they basically abandoned the project. Good luck with your DeLorean.! My best advice would be focus mostly on the fuel system. It will need to be completely replaced front to back.

As my grand pappy used to say "Every soldier wears his armor different" , it's actually nice to see a non BTF style DMC , fresh so to speak , heck i would say even ditch the tires /rim combo and go new school, blend the door locks, fatten the arches

The PRV engine was in a couple of Volvos that I owned. We put a lot of miles on them with few problems. It's a thirsty beast, but I wouldn't be afraid of it.

My best friend of the time in the 80s had an original red DeLorean in Dallas Texas car was delivered new painted red. It was an option at that time he said. We were all in our 20’s and car guys in Dallas and the only one I’ve seen. It was quite the car scene back then. 89-91😅

No DeLoreans were painted in the factory at all. Any painted ones were done later. Some do look great painted though. The gold ones were gold plated.

Yes the information has since been updated… “Despite rumors suggesting otherwise, DMC never produced a factory-painted car. It did, however, contact a third party paint shop to explore the option of painting its gull-winged masterpiece. As such, three examples were sent from the factory in Ireland to a subcontractor in the USA: one was painted black (serial 667), one red (serial 661), and one yellow (serial 672). According to DMC, only one of these cars remain untouched.”

I been following this car since i was 12. i Guess i am a DeLorean historian! DMC12 were made from 1981 to early 1983 thats not the only red delorean! there are others that have been painted red by the other dealerships they were from. DMC never painted them. they only have 3 gold deloreans in the world. about 9K DeLoreans were made and less then 3K are on the road. theres over 100 cars that have been convereded into BTTF [back to the Future] prop cars. The DeLorean is the most hated controversial criticized and misunderstood car on the planet! and its very rare to see one at a car show due to its history. for the most part the general public loves it because of the BTTF movies. what most car guys dont realize is that a DeLorean is an investment! The prices of those cars have sky rocked in vaule. and they are now selling nearly 100K! in a few years it will be over 200K, if you buy a DeLorean now you can sell it for about 300K or maybe even 500K in 10 years. the vaule of those only go up! id say with in 20 years from now that car will probabaly be worth over a million. i called it when i said back in 2010 DeLoreans will sell close to 100K in 10 years which is 2020s and everyone laugh at me and now go and look for yourselfs how much they are going for a delorean is as good as gold.

​@@Kit_Bear....I tend to agree with him honestly. But only because of how they're viewed and treated today. They aren't rare enough to be crazy, but as they keep falling off the map from neglect and the numbers dwindle that changes. Also, 20 years from now, when the folks around my age are in their 60's with more money then sense a couple of us will find the pristine example with records that we just gotta have and set the market.

One of the easiest engines to rebuild Valley of death rot is main cause of block failure but a decent tig welder may be able to save it

You should change all the fuel lines to braided stainless steel. The fuel lines I saw in the video look original.

Too bad they were’t big on wraps when some people were deciding to paint these cars. Elon recommends wrapping the Cybertruck for those that don’t want stainless steel. That keeps it original underneath.

It would be remarkable if it only had 5000 miles in 40 years. You have to consider that it has 105,000 miles... or 205,000 miles....

Bring back the stainless underneath that paint! The Stainless is heavy enough... the paint adds even more weight!
