To address the comments, so that it's absolutely clear, yeah, I personally paid for the truck - this is not sponsored by Ford. Let's break this down: 1) If a video is sponsored, I *always* disclose that it is sponsored and say who the sponsor is. I intentionally am very obvious about this - I'm happy to be transparent; it's how KZbinrs should be (and it's the law, if you're into that). If you're ever wondering "is this sponsored" on my channel, it's probably not, because I will make it painfully clear when it is (this video is sponsored by Continental, as disclosed in the video and in the video description). 2) Yeah, $40k (what I paid, before taxes) is a lot for a Maverick. Inflation also sucks. $40k today is $30k in 2016, which is when I bought my Crosstrek for $25k. This is a lot more vehicle than a mid-trim Crosstrek, for what is effectively $5k more. If you spec a *bare bones* 4-door F-150 with 4WD, it's $50k today. That's the absolute minimum, with only base features. Truck prices do be crazy. If you're concerned about price, get the XLT Maverick - as mentioned in the video it's the smarter buy. 3) I bought the Maverick because I think it's a cool product and it's useful for what I want in a vehicle. Ford as a company had no sway on my decision. I did reach out to Ford PR for X-Plan pricing, they helped me with locating a nearby dealer and settling on price - but you can go on the configurator yourself and see I am basically right at MSRP. Early days, sure, getting Maverick at MSRP was difficult, but the automotive space is catching up and gouging isn't as effective anymore. You can get these at MSRP now, if not under. 4) If you genuinely believe I'm going to try and sell a product to you without disclosing it, well, that's a bummer! I'm not here to trick anyone. I simply like the truck. I get that plenty don't. Options in the automotive space are a good thing. I buy what I like. You should do the same! 5) I just tested it and it turns out I am able to fit four bags of mulch in the bed, not just three (in case you were on the fence). That's a lot of mulch! Fun fact (for real) - Maverick actually has more payload than F-150 Raptor!!!

I bought a 2023 Maverick Lariat FX4 in Dec. of 2023. I had been in the market for a Honda Ridgeline, but none of the dealerships in my region wanted to be reasonable about the price and obviously did not need my business. In the last six months of ownership, I cannot begin to describe how lucky I am to have bought this instead. I love this vehicle. I bought a camper shell through Ford for the bed. (Overpriced, but extremely useful.) I have also installed a Cobb Tuning Accessport ECU Tuner, and Borla Exhaust system which have really awoken the engine with horsepower and torque. Just the right size truck for my needs, and fun to drive. I love the thought put into the interior. Highly recommended.

The issue is the bed size. Back when they made smaller trucks with 6ft beds and standard cabs, they were very popular. Now they are all crew cabs with tiny beds, nobody who actually needs a truck wants that. You can fit more cargo in a 4runner easily. Edit: everyone in my rural area who owns small trucks just use old Tacoma's or Ford f150s/rangers from the 80-90s. I think you are drastically out of touch with the people who would buy a small truck. Nobody is going to spend 40k+ for this thing, you can get a used ranger or Tacoma for under 7k. 40k is the cost of a good used diesel 3500.
@pcgamer20207 ай бұрын
@@username8644 Most people who own trucks do not use them to anywhere near the capability they have. Yes there are a lot of people in rural areas that do need them, but rural areas only account for about 15% of the US population and in urban areas a lot of trucks are just used as a status symbol. The $40k price point you mentioned is a bit of an exaggeration since that price is only if the truck is fully specced and not accounting for the $24k starting price. That is similar to saying nobody will spend $112k on an F150 without accounting for the fact that the starting price of that vehicle is just under $40k.

Those of us who grew up in the days of the small Toyota/Nissan/Ford truck know exactly what you mean. The truck was the do-all machine and its 0 to 60 times or how large you could make the cabin to fit 20 people in it didn't mean anything. What mattered was, will it start when I turn the key, followed by "what actual work needs to be done today" that this Truck is going to assist me with. Today, all I see is "Princess Trucks" that are so expensive that the owners never do any actual off-roading or work in them. To each their own I guess, but my Nissan Leaf with a trailer still does more work than most of the trucks I see in my area. 🤣
@WylieWiggins3 ай бұрын
That trailer got an 8-foot bed? 😜 The 8-foot bed was a big condemnation of the small pickups back in the day, too. "Work ready" vehicles with crew cabs these days and 5.5-foot beds just kind of crack me up, color me old school. This from an SR5 extended cab 4x4 Tacoma owner. 🤣
@dvader32633 ай бұрын
A 4.5, 5, 6 or 6.5 foot bed carries 8 foot lumber and sheet goods for home projects, remodels and renovations just as well as an 8 foot bed. No one is traveling cross country with a truck bed worth of lumber or sheet goods, so it doesn't need to fit in the bed with the tailgate closed. Short bed pickup trucks easily carry lumber or sheet goods from Home Depot, Lowes or a local lumberyard to home. Millions of pickup truck owners know this. The many tons of material to build a house aren't delivered to homesites in pickup trucks. Material to build homes is delivered on long and large flatbed trailers and offloaded using forklifts at the property site. Anyone who actually uses a pickup truck for work knows these facts.

It's not going to replace my Powerstroke for hauling my 5th wheel or car trailer, but for 99% of everything else I need it'll be a perfect replacement for my wife's Explorer. Like you, I live in Idaho, so AWD/4WD is a pretty important deal. Thanks for your imput and review on this. Like you, I think it's about the most perfect vehicle for the intended purpose. Just a note, on the tailgate, when you put it in the half up position, it puts the tailgate at the same height as the wheel wells so you can haul full 4x8 sheets of plywood with them supported properly. Thanks again for yet another great video.

Ordered one in 2021. AWD XLT w towing package, rear window, bedliner. 31K. It better than my 2004 Tacoma as far as usability. And really, to be looked down upon by the kinds of men who buy giant trucks with giant tires is a point of pride for me. My vehicle is not a compensation for something I lack. The 8 speed auto actually is part of what makes it really quick. No matter what speed your running, it can downshift when you pour on the gas and the thing jumps forward. And when you’re just cruising, it upshifts to keep revs low and get you better fuel economy. Is not as good as the DSG on my TT, but it’s way better than the auto I had in my 4x4 tacoma.
@christopherpardell44187 ай бұрын
@@wachinpntdry. Well… I really doubt it will last as long as the 04 Tacoma. But then, in 2021 a used 04Tacoma with less than 90k miles on it, was selling for nearly as much as a NEW base model Maverick… And used car loans are at even higher interest rates. What I meant was, The Maverick carries more weight, has more horsepower than my 6 cylinder Tacoma had, gets better mileage, has more interior storage and is more comfortable in terms of rear seating room, and has a better equipped and designed bed for carrying sheet goods. ( My tacoma was the crew cab version. ) And it has an easier to get into bed with a lower tailgate height. And I mean it was better than a Current model Tacoma which cost nearly Twice as much, is dramatically larger than the 04 Tacoma, and, by all accounts I have read, is nowhere NEAR as reliable as the older Tacomas like the 04. I wanted another SMALL truck and, sorry, but Tacomas just ain’t ‘small’ trucks anymore. The Mav does not have the ground clearance of the Tacoma, but then, I do not really take the truck off road, I use it for hauling materials, and people. And the 4X4 Tacoma was only AWD when you have the transfer case engaged, which killed mileage. Again, I’m not off-roading, I want the AWD for the stability and control when carrying a load or towing in bad weather. The Mav’s combination of unibody build, AWD and fully independant suspension also makes it handle a whopping lot better than the Tacoma. Oh, and it out-accelerates nearly every 8 cylinder truck out there. The Mav can only tow 4k- not as good as the Tacoma, but then I never have the need to tow anything heavier than that, so its perfect, AND the towing package gives me a better radiator, transmission intercooler, suspension and gearing, and a Built in brake controller, which the Tacoma does not have. One other thing I like, is that I don’t have to climb up to get in the Maverick. As I am now 67, and don’t need to impress anyone with such nonsense as how tall my truck is, the Maverick just makes a LOT more sense and, thus far, is just a lot more satisfying experience to drive, and to use. I doubt it will match the legendary durability of the early oughts Tacomas, but I really don’t need it to, I only drive it about 5k miles a year. The rest of the time I drive my 05 TT.

If I had the money, I'd opt for this Maverick, but since no one has really made anything like this in years, my eyes are set on 2012 and older Ford Rangers, for their size, light duty capability, and reliability. They came up for sale when folks realized they need the towing capability more than the high mpg. And a LOT of folks who bought the cheap ones are selling them at a slight profit. They paid 20K and are getting 22 or 24 for them. A friend of mine bought a brand new hybrid, with the off-road package but not the towing package, about a year after I bought mine and he paid about $1,000 over sticker. 32K. The prices did go up this year, because the truck is so popular, and it’s the only thing Ford is making right now that is selling that well. But the ones I’ve seen with only 15- 20k miles on them are still ranging from 22k to 28k depending on trim. The ones that sold the first year for 20 are for sale with low miles for 22K. Still considerably cheaper than anything you can buy new. When you consider that a similarly equipped Ranger was Starting at 45k in 2021, the Mav was a better truck, with more load capacity, a higher power to weight ratio, more interior room and storage and better laid out bed for 15k less. I have a few friends that have them in various configurations and they all sing their praises, too. One caveat: only use 91 octane or better in the 2.0L EcoBoost. The manual and pundits may say otherwise, but it the fuel mileage increase for CONSITANTLY running 91+ outweighs the cost; and as a bonus, with efficiency comes power benefits. It doesn't seem to care about ethanol content, though. And 7 months into ownership, she's getting 26mpg (good mix of city and highway miles) in an offroad-capable truck. I had a Maverick on order once before. But I waited for so long, I started to look elsewhere. I ended up getting a Honda Ridgeline RTL for the same price as a fully loaded Maverick. Except the Ridgeline has more horsepower, more interior room, more bed space, an in-bed truck, more towing capacity, higher clearance, and actual options on interior colors. The Honda came with a ton of stuff that Ford has as options. It's also a Honda so it's far more reliable. In making this choice I had some people hit me with the "buy American!" comment. Didn't hold much weight when they found out the Maverick is built in Mexico and the Ridgeline is built in Alabama. The Maverick is a nice truck, but the Ridgeline beats it in nearly every category. Even the fuel economy isn't far off from the 2.0L Mav. Sure, the hybrid is much better. But good luck finding one to buy. When you do buy it, you find out it's a slug on the road.

The Honda Ridgeline was the wayyyyyyy better choice. Mavericks are ugly as sin and I wouldn't touch a new Ford with a 10 foot pole. Ford LEADS THE NATION in recalls. Mavericks are full of problems. Anyone who wants to buy an actually good small truck should buy a late '90s to 2011 Ford Ranger. Now those are cool.

I agree. The Maverick feels cheap compared to the Ridgeline. The Honda has a V6 and a luxury SUV interior. The Honda bed and bed trunk is solid and the ride is like a luxury SUV.

@@lancelotlink3907 The in-bed trunk is a game changer. I use mine regularly. And its way larger than anyone expects.
@lancelotlink39076 ай бұрын
@@YT0091 Yes that trunk is deep & wide and locks when you lock the truck. The bed also hold 4x8 sheets of plywood or drywall really nicely. There is lots to like about that truck and its a Honda.

I think you kinda missed the opportiunity to either wait for the refreshed 2025 Maverick or buy the new Ranger (since that Maverick is 40k & for me the Ranger has the better bang for the buck)

Good Luck with your Maverick! I loved mine while I had it. I got rear-ended, and the tow hitch transferred all the energy to the frame rails and both bent... Due to the construction the estimate for repair was over 20k. Insurance totaled it. Now I am looking back at the midsize truck segment.

I think they would really benefit if they gave a 2 door option. Not everyone needs a 4 seater. Some folks just want a 2 door "mini" truck like the old days with the S-10, Ranger, Tacoma and so on that isn't 25 years old and rusted to hell and back.
@jbrou1237 ай бұрын
I wish they would do that, and with the Ranger too. Give me 2 doors and longer bed.
@wearethelandrovers90147 ай бұрын
I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they did a 2 door. My last pickup was a 2 door (back in 1997) and it was all we needed. Just the two of us.

I spent a great deal of my childhood riding around on the bench seat of a 2-door F-350 (I *think*) with a camper on it towing a fishing boat. Still smaller than most trucks today, and it was so much more vehicle than my grandparents needed, they also had a sedan to drive around town in. These new pretty trucks with unused beds and perfect, never-dirtied paint jobs make me roll my eyes so hard.

Everyone deserves a vehicle they are happy with. The ppf, tint, and ceramic coat make your new truck* look great.

I currently drive a 21 FX4 Ranger. I freaking love the new Maverick, haha. If I didn’t do off roading where I need the extra ground clearance, I would totally be a Maverick guy. Also, I hauled some stuff in my truck bed today! Now I can eagerly look forward to the day when I considering using the bed again one day… 😂

LOL, that's the most American thing anybody's said in the comments so far... Costco runs amiright! 🤣 I can't even tell if the comment is meant to be sarcastic - but to be honest 4x8 sheets of OSB and Drywall fit in the bed of my Maverick just fine and I've even had bulk mulch dumped in the back several times this Spring.

I got a '22 maverick recently for a little under 25k and i love it. Great gas mileage, nice ride, reasonable sized bed, and enough carry capacity for what i need. Even used it recently for a half cord of wood and it carried it perfectly. I wish i had heated seats but overall im happy. I may upgrade in a few years to a higher trim model when they do the reboot.

an example of someone who's not insecure and having to bolster their ego by driving an over sized F-250 with knobby tires.

It’s really a sign of a mature, well developed human, when someone makes broad generalizations of people based on why they drive. You’re effeminate and people that choose to drive large vehicles intimidate you, and that’s ok. But, it says more about you than it does of them 🤷♂️

A truck is supposed to be for utility, this is a truck. A raptor is not a "real" truck, it is not designed for utility, it is not designed for off-road, it is designed to be flashy and go fast. Just like how modern SUV's forgot about the utility part of "sport utility vehicle".

I saw an "industry insider" talking about how banks are fed up with auto makers producing expensive high margin vehicles, in particular large trucks. Repossessions are at an all time high, again it's mostly the big trucks. It's a happy coincidence for the auto makers that the preference among truck people tends to be for larger trucks.
