I have a MK4 Mondeo from 2009, Diesel, Automatic, 2.0. 150.000 Miles on it and still going strong. Bought it with 80.000miles and no issues since. Absolutely wonderful car with huge space. And the Mondeo was the first car that i can drive 10 hours straight without back pain or other issues. The seats are absolutely wonderful. Would buy an Mondeo MK4 again with lower mileage for sure. Best car so far, and i had a lot of cars.

My Dad's 62 plate Mondeo has over 200,000 miles on it (it had around 170,000 on it when he bought it) and it still pulls and drives brilliantly. Mind you it does have a Peugeot engine under the bonnet and as it was an ex medical car hence the high mileage, it'll have been maintained

The Duaratec HE block under the bonnet is a modified Mazda engine - both the 1.8 and 2.0 are (I think the 2.0 has a DMF and the 1.8 a single mass) . That's why they're so reliable, especially for a petrol engine, the build quality. I had a Focus 1.8 and now have a Mondeo 2.0 to replace that as someone wrote it off for me. Both good, solid units just sadly needs to be worked a bit more in the Mondeo due to the weight, but the superior handling and ride quality make up for it - what you lose in acceleration you make up for in how planted it is when thrown into the bends so the weight is a double-edged sword. That knocking sound, the hesitance upon starting is something both of them have done *very* occasionally, I think it's just a quirk of that design. When watching the video I thought, it's only really a concern if it repeatedly does that, but usually it clears given a few seconds and/or a little gas (especially useful in the winter). As long as you're not pulling away when it's doing that you won't kill the car. Had my Focus for about 6 years so I'm sure of that. 😂

I am pretty sure this car was first owned by the Ford Motor Company, it would have been run for 6 months as a management car and then sold via the Ford Direct system to franchise dealers. FMC being the first owner also explains the unusual 2.0 petrol engine, as they wanted to get this particular engine sold in greater numbers at the time.

Pretty sure the 2.0 petrol was just an "as standard" thing in the base (Edge) and Zetec models, but could be wrong. I'm amazed they could supply it with a 1.6 petrol - based on having to work the 2.0 at high revs to get it to pick up, I imagine a 1.6 would work only for the most leisurely of drivers who don't mind waiting ages at roundabouts. Old people, basically 😂

@@battfinkzThe Titanium X is a sleeper Fast Ford if you get the 2.5L petrol Volvo derived engine (same as found in the Mk2 ST and RS Focus). Absolute blast when coupled with the comfort and handling of the Mondeo, just a little slower off the line due to the weight. Thanks for this Lee. Love the fact you do warts and all videos with the cars you get. A lot of car for the money and getting £475 was a fair price. Any lower and I would have been tempted to see if I could swap the wheels for some that are in worse condition with less tread and getting shot of it. Keeping the wheels you took off as spares since they looked half decent and half decent tread on them - despite being budget but potentially come in handy if you get another part-ex in that needed tyres. Keep up the the great content fella!

Mondeo we’re famous for high mileages, the petrols we’re good but the diesel was outstanding if oil service’s and filters were carried out,I’ve seen diesels do over 400,000 miles when used for taxis, those engines have rarely been cold which proves the fact that it’s cold starts and short journeys that ruin engines, until the engine is at running temperature the oil really doesn’t protect as well as it should, engines that run continually always do mega miles before needing any major engine repairs if the oil is changed regularly.

I thought that my 1.8tdci has a great suspension but few days ago I've replaced the whole front suspension because I thought if I replace only the faulty front left strut bearing I'm better off replacing the whole suspension. And oh man what a difference in driving. The car has done 280.000 km (174.000 miles) and the suspension seemed ok but now the car is a bit higher like 2 cm and the cornering is so much more precise. The struts were probably okey-ish but the springs were definitely worn out at this mileage. I'm looking forward to drive my mk4 for at least another 5 years it's a really pleasant car to drive :-)

Very true. Because of the commonality of Fords, getting good quality spares from salvage or even non-OEM new is pretty easy. And yes Ford do fit pretty decent stereo systems to even their base models - they tend to be louder and have more clarity than the competition for the money. It's like they saw the 90s trend of fitting enormous amplifiers to your car and went, "well if that's what people want why don't we just fit that as standard?" What also comes as standard is excellent, formerly class leading handling. I find above about 40mph it doesn't feel it's weight and can be a lot of fun on the twisties (B-road blast if you like). I used to work for Merc and drove a fair few A, C, E and S classes, which were all pretty bland in non-AMG form. The only one I really liked that felt vaguely fun was the SLK, which is obviously a lot less practical than a Mondeo.

I traded a Renault Clio which the garage said would be going to auction. 2 weeks later it was on their forecourt. To be honest they were a good garage. Watching your videos and seeing the work that has to be put in. Latour charges alone, would make the car a write off to most.

Near the end of it's life? FAR from it I'd argue, I have a mate who runs an airport transfer company, mostly Ford Galaxys in the past and every one was way past 500K when they were eventually disposed of, and a few still with their second owners! I have a 300K (+) mile e61 M5 which I've owned from new, it's cost me way more than it's purchase price in maintenance & repairs over the years, I bet this Mondeo hasn't got close to half of its initial price in lifetime running costs.... It plainly drives well, the mileage is a number, I detest the way the U.K. market is obsessed by mileage rather than seeing the car for what it is, I know people on the continent who don't wince at 300k+ mileages, over here, we'd run for the hills! It's a shame, throw a few quid at this Mondeo and it'll serve someone (who does not care a crap about mileage) well for a few more years, I'd wager it has something daft like a well overdue fuel filter causing the hesitation... Good video mind you, I do see it from your perspective.

@@carukchannel Thanks man, but, respectfully, I'd somewhat disagree, my e61 looks like a shed on the inside, the interior hasn't worn her miles well at all unfortunately, and again, pro rata - I'd still say that Mondeo has given FAR better value over it's life... Yes, I love my e61 (which is why I still have it) but, had I known when I picked it up new what it would have cost me over the years and many miles, I would have gone elsewhere - where, admittedly, I have no idea - my point being, is that Mondeo is nowhere near the expendeture required to keep it on the road for another 100k miles or so compared to my supposedly "Premium" BMW, actually, I'd argue the Mondeo was designed to a much better standard to withstand use and abuse far more than my extremely pampered yet fault prone M5 ever was, as it's house purchase overall lifespan running costs unfortunately confirm!

Even in my neck of the woods that would be 1500 quid even with 200,000 miles. As a petrol it's cheap for anyone looking a decent car and not doing many miles. If it was diesel there would probably be another 100k-150k miles to be had out of it.

TDCi's are the most sensible engine choice for these. You just have to be aware of the DMF condition on them especially if they are over 90-100K Miles. Having said that you can pick up a £500 Bargain TDCi car knowing you will have to spend another £1000. If you picked a car that was good in all other ways you will have a decent car for £1500.
