When possible, I think many of your viewers would also enjoy hearing a bit of the backstory of the seller on large buys like this one. As collectors, it's always interesting to hear how others went about acquiring their's over time.

I immediately wanted to know the seller's story, and reasons for dumping the collection. (From the way Dillon laid out the narrative, it sounded like he was dealing directly with the collector. But, it could also have been an estate with a knowledgeable and savvy executor.)

I have a friend who lives/lived in Portland Oregon, unfortunately I’ve lost contact with him, I last visited him 3 years ago and he wasn’t in great health. Anyway he was a DJ and a Professor of music, has/had an extensive record collection, I’ve known him since 1972 and is in his 80’s. His collection is similar size to this one, just hope someone with love and care is treating his collection with respect!

@@noblerecords Dylan, that copy of disintegration looks like the promo that was pressed on JVC super vinyl. If you hold it up to the light you'll be able to tell. The promo copies were the only ones pressed on the JVC vinyl. Either way those DMM first pressings with the textured sleeves are the best of that album. If I were you in would put that one in my collection, they are only gaining value.

Amazing. My brain would explode if I took on that massive of a record haul. Also, I bought that Talking Heads album with the plastic cover designed by artist Robert Rauschenberg back in 83 when it was released and yes, it was crystal clear and faded to yellow over time.

I think that they yellowed relatively quickly, and then stabilized. My copy doesn't look any darker than when I picked it up used 35 years ago.

This is only in America- 10 years ago I was visiting every goodwill store and bringing home 5 to 10 boxes of records weekly. That was before and now all is about profit and score for the whole world to see.

What a buy!!! Congrats. As a side note...I finally visited my family in Mint Hill. I was not leaving before getting to the shop and meeting Dylan. Of course it was on the day the hurricane was coming through the area. I got a chance to flip through some vinyl and grab the MOFI Aqualung as a gift for my Brother. Really wish I had more time to hang out...but was great to finally meet you! Thank you for the great videos and the passion you share. By the way...my brothers mouth fell open when he played the record!

I will say it now, The Smiths UK LP's on Rough Trade are undervalued. I got all their official studio albums earlier this year and they were like $50-60CAD each shipped (from one UK seller). That's a bargain since their reissues from a few years ago are pricey and even Canadian or US copies are selling for as much.

Very cool finds you're showing! I got an Uber today and spent 5 hours in my local record store buying some great used LPs. And I decided to try out what you have mentioned before. I think it was you. I decided to just try something based on my initial look at the album cover. Since I'm legally blind, I did put on the LP and sampled three different locations on one side. It looked great but I had to make sure it sounded great. And just those brief samples made me glad I got it and I'm going to check it out probably tonight! I was laughing as you mentioned the four and a half to 5 hours It took to go through all of those boxes. Heck, it took me that long just to find 16 LPs I bought today at my record store haha. I do have one question for you. How do you know for sure when it is a first pressing? I don't see it listed that way on Discogs ever. I've heard all kinds of things like You look for the catalog number that begin with four characters instead of the regular two character letters and then the numbers that follow and other things too but it just doesn't seem to always ring true. I've bought some first pressings that I've been unable to confirm they were first pressings. There's got to be a way besides what's in the dead wax because even if you get all that information it still doesn't say first pressing on Discogs. T hanks for any help... Brian and Fort Worth.

Jeeezz wow, wanna open a Canadian location near the border...?? 😁 (Seriously AWESOME score!!!!) That Devo splash was pressed at Capitol Canada, and they used the same colours for a 45 of I Can't Get No Satisfaction, and a special reissue of Sgt. Pepper. (EDIT: All in 1978.)

You can make a lot of money on gear, particularly if you get some good turntables. A lot of new collectors need a turntable, and in many cases amps and speakers. I was helping a friend at a record show in 1993 - he had that CSNY MoFi on his display rack for $120. I asked him if he could really sell it at that price, he said just wait. Sure enough, one of the first buyers to come in asked to see it, and peeled off six twenties without hesitation.

I saw some of the record had the old Record Exchange price tags on them. That was an old record store in Charlotte in the 80’s & 90’s. Really nice collection. I can’t wait to dig. Keep us updated on when you are putting it out. 🌚

Friend of mine has a copy of that TALKING HEADS lp picture disc. I have ARE WE NOT MEN? WE ARE DEVO! on picture disc. Mark is on one side and the others are on the other side,all with scrunched nylon encased faces and in sunglasses. I have SIMPLE MINDS' NEW GOLD DREAM and almost bought a second,gold colored version of it. Remember seeing the yellow GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD. Same friend who owns the TALKING HEADS picture disc also has the SOME GIRLS version with the band appearing in random wigs on the cover. He used to say there weren't many of that variation. I had a ZEP bootleg I bought back in the 1980s. It was a double lp and the sound was abominable(FOR BADGE HOLDERS ONLY,VOLUME ONE). Sold it about twelve years ago. I sold a 45 of Hendrix playing and singing "Gloria.'' It came with THE ESSENTIAL JIMI HENDRIX,VOLUME TWO(have one as well). I'm an ENORMOUS Hendrix fan but have NO IDEA why I sold that 45!! lol. I used to think my copy of BLACK SEA by XTC MIGHT be valuable because it came with a black plastic bag(there was a khaki version as well), but found out otherwise. Anyway,love your site. Lots of fun.
