I've had an XF with this engine in for the last 6 years, they are incredible when they work... I'm extremely envious of how accessible the rear coolant bridge is in the Ftype as in the XF it's almost under the dashboard! That's the last ford V8 that was made when Jag was owned by ford. I used to work for a company that used those engines to age catalysts for JLR. They used to drop valves all the time and they were hard to come by new in 2019 -20. We had to use recon ones once ford stopped supporting JAG. So not surprised you couldn't get bits 😂

Dean…you are a brave man taking on so many jobs and all at the same time…you must keep each set of bits in different containers to stop them getting jumbled up! On the car, yes the engine is scrap but the body shut lines looked a bit random at the front as if the owner had powered into a flood at a fair speed and the water had pushed all the front valance and grille slightly backwards. When the engine is out,give everything a good check and see if it all aligns properly…you need a full respray going by your inspection so the repair margins are financially very close.😬😬Good luck! 😃😃😃😃😃

That horrible rattle sounds like small end bearings. It quite possible someone started the engine with some cylinders full of water, which hydro-locked it. The engine was running on all cylinders so expect still enough compression left to run the damaged cylinders. The hydraulic lifters may also have been badly damaged. Without testing for oil pressure and compression test each cylinder, it’s difficult to be certain. It didn’t sound like big end bearings though, so could be a potential fix for someone. The engine was very tight at first due to the rust buildup on the cylinder walls where the water was still present-hence the explosion of rusty water when you cranked it over with the plugs out. A fun engine rebuild for someone !.

Having had 2 SVRs the first being a 67 plate, I can tell you that there is a host of of differences to the FType R, although I’m not sure how close the R becalm once the SVR was dropped. Front splitter and rear diffuser I believe are different, exhausts are inconel and titanium and much lighter. Suspension is different to the R. Interior wise; branding and seats. Rear spoilers were all carbon fibre. I fantastic car which with carbon ceramics and hence different wheels looks stunning. The pre Sept 18 cars sounded awesome. I didn’t want to get ride of my last one, a 19 plater, it had 13k miles and was just short of five years old. But I did buy a 992 TS which, sadly, sounds like a sowing machine. Fun fact, all of this era of JLR products have 8 cylinders. It is just a question of how many pistons they have. To reduce production costs, the v6 and the v8 use the same block. The “V6” version uses the cylinder heads from an inline 3 Ford engine on each side.

The problem with flood damaged is to do the repair correctly and not have numerous wierd faults a few years down the line. All wiring and electrical items at least under the bonnet (if only driven in deep water and not gone inside) need replacing.. else it will all look like your starter wiring.. and that sounds is text book bent rod.
@carlelliott67584 ай бұрын
Having had the same noise on another v8 it sounds like a bent valve that is stuck open and the piston is hitting it, check with boroscope and you may see witness marks on the piston
