I have since retired from doing it professionally for... reasons... But I still adore it as a hobby, and I still highly encourage anyone that wants to give it a try to do so! And the wonderful thing about tail swimming is that it builds your abdominal strength, so if you start just by practicing the dolphin kick, then add a fin like Ginny's got, you'll build up plenty of strength in no time, with very little strain on joints or anything. Like Ginny said; Don't let your Dreams be Dreams!

You forgot rule 4: "When buying a mermaid tale, don't drown." I have been a professional lifeguard for half my life and I cannot stress the importance of the not drowning rule. Respect your local lifeguard, don't drown. We hate getting wet. Also, you make a very lovely mermaid. Tale looks amazing!

That is a beautiful tail and your video was great! Just wanted to say they probably recommend not folding it because storing fabric in a folded state can cause damage to the fibers over long periods of storage (like really long, like museum collections storage long). You can reduce the risk of damage by padding the folded edges with acid free paper that you crinkle and roll into a tube; or by storing it in a completely rolled position around a low acid wooden dowel rapped in acid free paper. Even if you pad it in a folded position though, you should pull it out and lie it flat for a while and re-fold it in the opposite or a different direction once every year or two, or every time you use it and then return it to storage. An acid free quilt box can also help keep it out of the sunlight, and you can pack it with those silica packets/stickers like you can find in jerky bags to keep the moisture down and prevent mildew/mold. ...don't put jerky in the box though. That's a bad idea.

I’m a Finfolk mermaid! I got my silicone tail a few years ago (before their prices were even higher 😭) and I’m a professional mermaid now. I had one of their fabric tails as well & I loved it! (Didn’t have time to use it much tho since I use my silicone for gigs, so I rehomed it) so excited for you Ginny! You should definitely do a swimming video sometime in the future!

I had the same problem with my first Finfolk fabric tail as well! Don't worry! It'll stretch out after a good swim in a pool. If it's still too tight, you can always remove the elastic waist band =)

Yeees!!! I have a finfolk fabric tail also! Id suggest getting neoprene socks to go in your monofin, helps keep your feet from getting blisters and makes it a little more comfy

Also its true in the water they loosen up a bit! So you Definatley do want it to be a bit of a tight squeeze the first few times you put it on! If you havent already a yoga matt or towel at a pool is good to get your tail on so you dont scrape it on the pool deck!
