I Bought A Nokia N9 (2011) | Lets Mess With It | MeeGo OS

So I finally bought Nokia N9. This one is a black model which I got for a mere $44 off eBay. The Nokia N9 is a phone from 2011 known for its amazing camera quality and features. Apart from the Nokia N9 camera, It is known to be the only phone ever to run the MeeGo OS which is a Linux based OS which never really took off. The Nokia N9 is known as the MeeGo OS phone as its again, the only one in existence apart from the developer only Nokia N950 which is extremely rare. This one works fully and is in excellent condition for its age and $44 is an amazing deal on it. Its also considered as a collectors item at this age and since I am phone collector with a massive phone collection, having this phone was a must. I will also do a Using the Nokia N9 in 2021 video or a Nokia N9 2021 or Nokia in 2021. Also Windows phone in 2021. It ain't no iPhone 12 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, Motorola Edge S or OnePlus 8T but its definitely an interesting phone in its own league. So lets check it out!

I really think Nokia can take on the OS duopoly of Android and iOS with this Meego OS only if they improved on it and worked on it continuously since Microsoft failed their brand

No shit, the android and ios was ahead, the nokia symbian or meego actually far behind, the os and processor are slow af, that's why they absolutely killing this os and 100% move into windows phones, because windows phones its more reliable, more practice & promised at that times, its more faster & modern

The 800's are EVERYWHERE for soooo cheap here in the UK! I got a boxed working one for £3! But the N9 is about £50 for a 2nd hand one and about £60 for a refurbished one.

yeah 800's are rare in the US cause they were never released here. The 900 was the first Nokia Lumia in the US

Proud owner of the L800 and L900. I loved the Windows Phone OS as well however I hated the Microsoft Store/Windows Mobile Store also was called Microsoft Live Store at one point.

You're correct about the successor of MeeGo being JollaOS, which is also known as SailfishOS. The company in question is Jolla. They separated after this single collaboration as Nokia had already mentioned that this would be the only phone to be released with this OS. Nokia was already facing the turmoil of Google's Android and Apple's iOS as a platform against their dying symbian platform which was already on life support since 2010. The merger with Microsoft came only after this. And after this Nokia also released a few more symbian phones before the officially choose Microsoft Windows Phone as the future OS for them, namely one of them was the Nokia PureView 808 (which I own as well).

MeeGo seems to be a single hand use OS, by the way its configured..I would have definitely used this if I had an N9 years ago. Have you seen the prototype of the unknown Nokia from 2012 ish..they did experiment with Android before Windows..but those Windows instead..big mistake sadly...I wanna get my hands on the Nokia Mclaren also..its expensive af tho. Do you have the red 808? that things soo beautiful..mines black..speaking of, Gotta put it against the 1020 soon in a camera test

@@Techformative557 I'll surely watch it even though I own those phones, L1020 and 808 PV and know how both will fare. Yes, I've seen the Nokia Krakatau or was it Nokia Kataya, that was based on Linux. Strictly speaking it wasn't Android but linux and it would've ended the same way as it did with Microsoft as there's no app store on that platform. The phone sells for ~$1000. There was another one like that as well though it ran another OS. Fun fact, not many know but the cross platform Android 4.2 based Nokia X was a secret successor to this non-windows os idea Nokia came up with also it was a successor to the Nokia Asha design language. It was released alongside two similar models. I loved Windows Phone OS 8/8.x as well as Windows 10 Mobile as a platform what I hated was the app support and the app stores. I wish more app developers would've supported it as strictly speaking it's possible with C and C++ to make apps for it as some apps also used C in Android. I have two of the 808 as my mom used to own one as well. My mom owned the red while I owned the white.

@@Techformative557 besides the one you're talking about the Nokia Kataya there's another rare, Nokia Ion Mini which was never released alongside it. It's another rare prototype which I talked about. I have the prototype of the Nokia Lumia 950 which became later rebranded to Microsoft Lumia 950.

I read somewhere long time ago about the Nokia’s fall that they separated hardware and software team, like almost never talk to each other. So that’s the reason the software sometime did not work smoothly with some phones. In this case, the front camera. I would figure that the hardware team decided to put front camera at the last minute so the software team did not realize that they needed to add swap camera button until they almost launching the phone. And there is no point to upgrade it since they would go for Windows Phone anyway..so yeah.

Unfortunately i've forgotten all the needs to do the work on it anymore, and i only worked on it once and set it aside and choosed to stay on the 3d modeling side of my known knowledge, sorry mate can't answer that :)

When it was released I was considering buying the N9 or the Sony Xperia Z. I ended up with the Zperia but it was really close. If Nokia made a N9 successor with Meego/Sailfish I would buy one.

Not really. You are better off getting a Sony Xperia and flashing Sailfish to it using the Jolla / Sony collaboration images.

You can flash Sailfish I think but you cannot out MeeGo Back..N9's running MeeGo are more valuable than ones that have been flashed

It came out at the end of 2011 and it was praised as a phenomenal phone. It was ahead of the curve but Microsoft killed off that potential momentum when they bought out Nokia and shoved Windows on Nokia phones.

yea man, it was actually a really phenomenal device, i was a kid back then so i dont really know much abt computers or mobile devices.But seeing that how much features this phone actually offered now and how it look....... i would totally buy it if the software is being updated to avoid security issues or exploits. i wish they actually took off and MeeGo OS is actually a contendor on the mobile os platform. I might try Sailfish OS tho as it is the successor for MeeGo OS.I just need a supported hardware
