Thank you Jiggin for doing this for the viewer and the whole time this video was going on I was thinking wow this could be used for the Hurricane mission help. It definitely helps. I've been watching you since day 1 and have shared your videos to others. I also live in Florida and am only a 20 minute ride from Sebring. I live in Port St Lucie but was born in South Florida and have a cousin that lives in Bradenton on the west coast south of Tampa as well. They are doing good considering I've talked to them but prayers out to all of those families out to our west coast🙏. You did an awesome job on covering the devastating job Ian did and really did appreciate that because I really did feel like the media dropped the ball on the coverage. The media covers military wars with dangerous situations there and why they dropped the ball was crazy to me. Have a great and safe day and really enjoy your channel (you keep on changing the level of KZbin expectations and thank you for that and I mean that in the most positive way possible. Yep! Former BM2 here! These were the OTHs (over the horizon) that could go the distance to chase drug runners. Lost my front tooth on that starboard side navigation seat. Awesome. And yeah those attachments were for the dual davit system to crane the boat into the water from the ship. And these boats were NOT designed to flip back over if capsized. I feel like this one was decom'd before he bought it. Primarily because the sponson says "Search and Rescue" I'm thinking a fire department or life guard had it after the CG. But yeah, I've never seen an OTH picked up by a helo. Not saying it couldn't be done or hasn't. Actually on second thought, that seems like it'd be too unstable for a helo. I think a load that size would need four points of contact. (just guessing, I'm only an MK) Edit: I should have watched more before commenting on why it said Search and Rescue...

@@rusty2381 oh for sure. From my understanding is that the search and rescue agency bought it from like a government auction or something. I got to go to RHIB training school while in the Coast Guard where we learned to "jump" these properly, unofficially of course. Was a Coxswain on the 21 RHIB and 41 UTB (North Bay San Fran) for 5 yrs. When pulling the RHIB to "hard to reach" areas we would have to drive code 3, lights and sirens on the truck then drop the boat near the emergency. I recall using the same trailer in your picture. Having pulled a 21' ft boat, code three at 100 mph'ish, its a solid trailer. We did lose a wheel once, at the launch ramp....bad bearing buddy. Fun solid boats, even in Alaskan waters they handled well. Good buy, take care of those sponsons!

@@10706BND You can buy all kinds of stuff. This particular 82 (USCGC Point Brown) was sold or given to a college with a maritime program to use as a teaching platform, but ended up derelict. A former CG officer locally found it and bought it relatively cheaply, with a bunch of parts, and with the help of MKs from the local station was able to restore it and then register it as an AUX facility, running it on patrols in NYC under the name of “Lady B.” I know of Auxiliarists who’ve bought 25 RBS, 40s and 45s.

That OTH MKIII (over the horizon) never would 60mph even when they were brand new delivered, @ best we’d see 42kts. The yanmar diesel was 315hp and there was a huge turbo lag, always had to make sure we stayed up on the turbo during tactical boat ops otherwise we’d get beat by the outboards. The so called helicopter lift points you keep mentioning are not for helicopters to hoist/lift and deploy the boat, they are part of the boat launch/recovery davit system. There are d-rings and pad-eyes in the deck for crane hoisting/lifting operations. I know you guys are jazzed up about those shock mitigating seats but they’re not as good as you think. I have severe back issues because of those seats bottoming out during intercepts. I would suggest reaching out to some prior coasties who have experience operating these boats and can teach you the capabilities and operating characteristics and limitations before you or your crew get hurt. I’m pretty sure the OTH MKII/III type manual is still available online and will show every system with casualty control procedures.

Also how dare you say the defender class small boats were built by metal shark, The 25’ RBS defender class was built by SAFE Boat, Metal shark builds the 29’ defiant class and those are absolute garbage, ride like crap, rattle like a crumpling soda can and if u enjoy shards of glass shattering into your face bc the swept back windshield cant withstand green water washing over the bow by all means go waste your money. The 25’ RBS by safe boat was and still is a much more capable and maneuverable platform. There’s still plenty of the hulls still around for sale. Don’t waste any money on anything built by metal shark.

Am a boat captain... when all seats are occupied next time don't put more weight on the stern/back of the boat, rather in the middle of the hull or the bow but since the captain is at the bow just put the weight in the middle seats. Less pressure on the engine makes it easier to plane off and so the keel can cut the water better. I hope you see this and i love all of your videos❤️

Those are NOT tow hooks and they are NOT meant for helicopters to sling them, though they theoretically could be used that way, I guess. These OTH (over-the-horizon) small boats were/are mounted on Coast Guard cutters above their hulls, on the sides and were/are lowered into the water by two cranes, one forward, one aft. Those hooks were attached to the crane lifts. This allowed the crew to board the boat on the cutter and be lowered evenly to the surface (and raised back up) without having to use ladders or nets up a hull. The role of an OTH small boat is to very quickly get to your target and perform a rescue or a boarding while the cutter makes its way to it. The first two numbers in a CG small boat hull number identify the boat’s length, btw. This one starts with a “23”, because it’s 23 feet long. The current Legend Class national security cutters have a 35’ OTH called the Long-Range Interceptor that can do 35kts and a Short-Range Prosecutor that can do up to 30kts and travel 20 miles from the cutter, which is what you see here.
