Surprise! I bought my very own 'thrift' store! This has been something I have wanted to do for quite some time and I finally found a great fit! I plan to use this space for ALL of my reselling business. I want to ship, store, film and list everything from here! Sometimes safe doors separate “Fire Code” areas so that local building permits can be issued when garages/porches are enclosed and wiring & plumbing doesn’t need to be updated, also lets insurance carriers separate living vs. business coverage. This is very exciting and a great decision. I predict eventually you’ll stage the extra rooms for reselling a full-fledged antique/estate sale business. BTW, replace battery in smoke detector. And get a washer/dryer for textiles. Congrats!

Do not keep the safe doors. Especially the outside one. You will be paying a fortune in heat costs. I would consider knocking down some walls though.

I would advise NOT to sell the stove .. I have a kitchenette in my barn office and I never thought I would use or want a stove and boy was I wrong.. love all,the cooper ! Gonna be so fun to transform ..

I would put all the stuff that i wanted to list for sale in a back room. Then open everything else up to a giant estate everything 1.00 sale, then donate whats left.

Jeffrey, I think you should keep the bedroom and living room and hire a retired person whose discovered she does know how to handle retirement- I was retired for 4 months before going back to work 5 years ago part time. This person could live on site, be a caretaker and open the shop when you want it open. None of us want to keep maintaining the houses we have. That would be the perfect downsized space. Plus you could probably buy her collection for cheap because her kids want none of it. I’ve posted the name of a good estate dealer on the refrigerator in case I don’t wake up one morning! Oh - keep the stove. She’ll want to bake occasionally. You could write that into her contract 😉

Wonderful old historic building. My grandma and grandpa had a building like that in the '50's with grocery store in the front and living quarters in the back. Sure brings back fond memories. I loved playing in the store and arranging the shelves. Looking forward to all of your renovation videos. Can't wait. So happy for you.

So much character and the imagination runs wild with ideas! 🧐 I would love to walk in and step into different rooms set up pertaining to theme. I personally think it be cool to use the bedroom with the bed and display (sell) linens, pillows, bedroom accessories etc. 🖼🏮 🛏 Same with the living room, lamps, pictures, figurines...what better why to sell & display. Congratulations. You should do a buy 1 get 1 free for your in store customers. They can select a free item from the stuff you don't want....use those as a promotion to bring in customers. There's a ton of stuff in there. Good luck

Lots of sorting and donating. You might want some of those rugs. Concrete floors can get mighty cold even in heated situations. Looks like the people who ran the shop actual lived there too.

My mother had a sofa just like the one in your video. She bought it in 1960. My cousin has it now and has recovered it and uses it everyday in her breakfast area. That is a great piece you got in this deal. This place will be great when you finish setting it up.

I think the safe doors are kind of neat and sort of a conversation piece. I know you probably don't want to tell us much about the previous owner for their privacy's sake but of course we all want to know.

If someone were living there (only thinking that because there is a living room and bedroom), then the safe door could have been a deterrent from intruders trying to rob a store after dark. Either way, they add character!

You could go to a grocery store and ask for 2 grocery carts. After you wash up your items in the sink, put them in the grocery carts to carry everything out Into the areas you are selling. Congrats. Nice opportunity dear.

Might of been a Old bank at one time. You got a Ton of treasures, Remember every dollar adds up! Sell stuff on Facebook Marketplace. It's nice to donate but think of it as having a giant piggy bank. An stuff you donate say a blanket in Great shape $2:00 Dollars better than nothing. Those Dishes sell instead of Donating. Than your giant piggy bank fills up an your building has paid for itself!

Jeffrey cool spot ! I'd do a 50s a 60s and a70s-80s corners. Get a quality spray painter do everything light dove grey floors a little darker and do pops of color everywhere. OR do your floors with poly (kinda like Pete's CLH) and leave those dark green shelves . . . oh the possibilities. . . I'm so jelly ✌but just so happy for ya 👊

I'm so excited for you Jeffrey! I hope you don't mind, I have a couple of ideas to share. Because of the register unit painted black and white checkered, you should so paint the floor red! Then you can even section of a small area and paint the floor black and white checkered. Have a cute 1 or two small tables, serve coffee. I went into a consignment store and they served coffee and it made it so quant. People can shop, hang around, equals more sales from browsing. You can either offer it for free, charge a nominal amount or have a donation jar. You can get coffee, creamer and even offer some cookies. Atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere! Draw people into cute! Regardless, have a couple of chairs for elderly people and disabled. Take it from me, someone who has a disabled child, nothing is more of a turn off by not having something for them to sit on. Our Goodwill used to have a table and chairs by the book area. They removed it. They wouldn't even offer somewhere for my son to sit. They down right refused. We did an abrupt turn out. Book shelves could be red or black or red too, walls white! All very 50's! Oh, you paint the floor by used tape to get straight lines. You have to have special promotion days, even if it's once a month, you have to draw people in. Especially during this pandemic. Maybe like Saver's donate something get 10% off. This is so exciting. I live close to Chicago, SW Suburb to be exact. I'd love to come down and help you out sometime to get the store ready. Just have to ask! I'd love to meet the three of you!

WOW. What exciting news. It will be great fun watching the evolution of the building. I'm glad you have support from your parents for this huge project. You didn't mention a dedicated lighted set for the Friday night sales. I'm impressed. Business must be good. Before you donate all the stuff that is junk to you have a blowout yard sale. Day one you sell. Day two sell bags for $3 or so to customers that they can fill. Let them carry most of it away and save you hauling it away to donate, though some places pick up too. Stay calm and evolve on!

Wow, that is a great space for what you are wanting to use it for! Maybe you could have a "clearance sale" with all the items you are not wanting to keep for resale. That way you could make some extra cash and have someone other than yourself carry the items away. You could always donate whatever doesn't sell but it would clear out a lot of space with minimal work on your part. I can't wait to see all the updates!

What a great building!! It is very cute in the front and has lots of wonderful space! A very good move to purchase it! That beeping could be a smoke detector needing a battery or it could be the carbon monoxide detector's end-of-life sound. I learned just a few weeks ago that the carbon monoxide detector will do that and it needs replacement.

I think that shop is fantastic!! I would have so much fun going through all the things and painting rooms getting it ready to set things up. I am so happy for the both of you. Yea my friend tried that with her little shop and the old geasers would come sit around drink the coffee and BUY nothing ! ! ! When one guy started telling people my friend was asking wayyy to much for some items when they became interested she put her foot done and took out the coffee corner . . . lesson learned I guess 😐
