@Syst3M D3Cod3s A timing belt is designed to be replaced multiple times as part of a cars ongoing, regular maintenance. A timing chain is not. The fact that the job was done by a 'specialist' (guessing as it's a JLR specific engine, not a Ford one as someone intimated in another comment, that it was a Jaguar specialist) is also going to put the price up.
@stuco81
@stuco81 2 жыл бұрын
@Syst3M D3Cod3s it's not a ford engine though is it... . As stated multiple times in the video and written on the top engine to help you out, it's an Ingenium. Which is a JLR developed engine and nothing to do with the Ford/PSA engines used previously.

Recycling cars such as this makes such good sense. It saves natural resources, reduces carbon footprint, makes the recycler some profit, and employs people to do the work. And the profit can be used to recycle another vehicle. It really is an all round win! More power to you Matt, great content as ever as a further bonus.

I agree, 10-15 year old cars aren't scrap as they were years ago. With the cost of everything being high it would make more sense to recondition older vehicles rather a constant supply of new leased vehicles. Guess it's become to normal to use and discard cars. That Jag messed with my OCD, never understood why someone buys a nice car and doesn't look after it.

I had a 2015 same model and loved the car but spending time on an XE forum, was shall we say, enlightening. As a driving car they are very good indeed and do not disappoint. Very chuckable and extremely comfortable.

Never been a diesel fan so would never buy this XE but 2 years ago I bought the 3.0S. Man, what a car !!. 335 bhp Supercharged V6 , 4.9 seconds to 60 and nearly 40 mpg on a steady motorway run. Mine is an ex dealer demonstrator so has the full options list thrown at it. It is faster, more refined and handles better than my son’s E46 M3 and is more economical and faster than my old x308 XJR ( which I do miss for the v8 burble) . This S is a rare sight on our local roads (North East Scotland) and is generally a bit ‘under the radar’ especially as it’s unfortunately not made anymore. Very rarely see another one on the road. Car hasn’t missed a beat in the 2 years I’ve owned it and is a hoot to drive every day. Would have another one in a heartbeat !

@@supersploon4177 but that’s the point Jag, BMW, Merc etc all build up the price with extra cost ‘packages’ but in my case with the Kia all the ‘extras’ are standard equipment; no-one likes being taken for a ride, especially these days.

Maybe get in touch to Carly or something. When you check out a car, do a diagnostic scan and see what's up. Great videos. I'm from SA, and wish cars were this cheap on this side of the pond.

hahaha, my company is 2319detailing, i love these Jags and have 4 regular customers. I thought when you opened the boot...they had done the normal of "the car goes next week, lets do the tip run and someone else can clean it" BUT NOPE heartbreaking to see what was a nice car treated so badly. Great video as always! cheers Paul

For some reason I'm weirdly obsessed with the slightly sleazy looking, car-dealer type bloke in the pic on the CarVertical site and I have NO IDEA WHY! Anyway, great videos mate- really nice filming, presenting and editing. Keep it up!

Nice video. I've had my 2017 XE Prestige 2.0d for over 5 years now. Leased it at first, but then bought it out after 3 years because the car was just so reliable and cheap to run. Interesting note about that timing chain, though. Right now mine has only about 40 K miles (66K kilometres here in Canada), so I think I've probably got another few years before I need to worry about that. To tell you the truth, I was pretty shocked at the state yours was in when you first got it. I can't imagine anyone letting such a nice car get so grotty.

@@dsingh2888 Well, D, they're lovely cars, and mine has been great, but you never know. If you can find a low-mileage one, you probably don't have to worry about the timing chain.

This poor XE made me want to cry! I have a 2019 XE auto (petrol) with just 10k miles and the difference is mind blowing. Hat to see an abused Jag. I was glad to see the improvement at the end although I still would not touch a diesel!

Great video. That Jag was a disgrace. I use to be an Mot tester years ago and we use to use the seat, steering wheel and gear stick disposable covers on cars like those. Not to protect the parts to protect ourselves. No excuse for it to be that bad inside your car. As you say have some pride. It’s embarrassing.

Interesting video, thanks for sharing. I've just purchased a 2009 x type 2.2 diesel auto. With only 82k on the clock, I was rather hoping that the timing chain would last a long time, but hearing that you're replacing one after only 100k is rather disappointing news. Still, all in all, you've landed a bit of a bargain. 👍

if i decide to get rid of my transporter and go back to a car, the xe is high on the list. as for the diesels? i love them. good mpg, good performance, cheap tax! if looked after then it ticks all boxes, BUT as Matt alluded to, it has to be an auto in a Jag. great video !!

Funny how times change...a few years ago manual Jaguars were saught after as it was a sporting express. If you wanted a relaxing slish box you bought the Daimler version. Manual in my opinion is more keeping with the Jaguar sporting heritage...

I was looking forward to this, when I first saw it in my new videos list! At the end of the much enjoyed video, I had a potential brain wave 😳 on another channel, I sometimes see a breakers yard, with seemingly light damaged, quite young cars. I wonder what this would have been worth in parts. However, it is nice to see that you’ve saved it, and I hope you get full asking price, and/or a decent part exchange you can make money on as well 😀

I've actually had 2 manual Jaguar XJ6 3.2 and they are rockets. Both I did 190K miles before changing them. The 3.2 with Jetrag gearbox was the same setup as the Aston Martin DB7. They really perform. They are now very very rare. Normally an XJ6 in automatic form is a bit sedate, but the 3.2 straight 6 engine was bomb proof and with the manual gearbox the car is an animal. Don't knock one until you've tried it . I used mine to travel regularly to Switzerland for my work. Now I have a Jaguar XKR which is excellent with a supercharger, but I sometimes I do pine for a manual gearbox in a Jag. Not sure about a diesel engine though.

Another great vid Matt. You may find that it only cost you £3999.98 as there was a 2p in the cup holder! Maybe you missed it because of all the shite? Every little helps (other superstores are available). My guess is that the previous owners are an older couple who just want to get rid & are now on there way to buy a small French car! Sorry to say this, but to many people cars are like washing machines, disposable. All the best......
