@Syst3M D3Cod3s A timing belt is designed to be replaced multiple times as part of a cars ongoing, regular maintenance. A timing chain is not. The fact that the job was done by a 'specialist' (guessing as it's a JLR specific engine, not a Ford one as someone intimated in another comment, that it was a Jaguar specialist) is also going to put the price up.
@stuco81

@Syst3M D3Cod3s it's not a ford engine though is it... . As stated multiple times in the video and written on the top engine to help you out, it's an Ingenium. Which is a JLR developed engine and nothing to do with the Ford/PSA engines used previously.

As an owner of a 2015 Jaguar XE I found that particularly interesting! Great car so far but the engine does sound like a tractor on start up. I had a 2015 same model and loved the car but spending time on an XE forum, was shall we say, enlightening. The timing chain is a known troublesome feature and is mounted at the rear of the engine and hence the expense to change it. That body work repair was the deal of the century! As a driving car they are very good indeed and do not disappoint. Very chuckable and extremely comfortable.

Never been a diesel fan so would never buy this XE but 2 years ago I bought the 3.0S. Man, what a car !!. 335 bhp Supercharged V6 , 4.9 seconds to 60 and nearly 40 mpg on a steady motorway run. Mine is an ex dealer demonstrator so has the full options list thrown at it. It is faster, more refined and handles better than my son’s E46 M3 and is more economical and faster than my old x308 XJR ( which I do miss for the v8 burble) . This S is a rare sight on our local roads (North East Scotland) and is generally a bit ‘under the radar’ especially as it’s unfortunately not made anymore. Very rarely see another one on the road. Car hasn’t missed a beat in the 2 years I’ve owned it and is a hoot to drive every day. Would have another one in a heartbeat !

I know it's different if you consider it as just a commodity to make a profit on but for a personal car, the remotes, the interior, even just the state of the boot would have made me walk away. I guess there's more emotion involved in the personal buying experience, you have to convince yourself you're spending cash on something good and high quality. Knowing something which is a premium brand has been valued and looked after is all part of that.

And why would a timing chain.. not a belt, that would be normal.. but a timing chain, need to be replaced at 100,000 miles? My jaguar has 126,000 miles and no issues.. drives like a dream and I drive it pretty hard.. which brings me to my final point.. Jaguars, since time immemorial, have traditionally been drives' cars.. it's their heritage.. So, why the comment about it being a manual? Manual cars are for drivers.. autos for chauffeurs, and mostly women, Mercedes and Rolls Royces.

I’ve always preferred the Jaguar XE over the 3 series or any of its other rivals. It’s a very handsome classy looking car I think.

This is the first time I ever watched a car video and somebody complained a car was a manual. Would you tell me why? Unless you say it later and I haven't gotten to the point yet. I personally think manuals are overrated. I learned how to drive one because of the hype and was pretty dissapointing. Learning how to drive one is neat and if I was rich having a manual would be cool. But as a daily I just don't get it.

If I understand you correctly, the customer was going to trade this XE in for a new vehicle........in this condition? (before you made it beautiful) Checking under the bonnet: "To be fair, it's no dirtier than the inside." 😎 Gotta love his optimism.

Shocking, I spotted a damaged door rubber on the rear passenger door in the after valet video. Did you not replace any of the torn door seals? I'll give you a pass if you didn't though as you've already sunk a boatload of cash into that car. Great video, as always

I could not live with that engine. I love Jags but the XE turns me off. I have an XF 3.0ltr petrol V6 on an 08 and at 114000 miles I had to have the gearbox totally rebuilt at £5000, it was serviced at 85000 miles, and it wasn't right even then. I was pulling it out of the Jag specialist I use and the gearbox broke entirely. Having now fallen out of love with that car I hit Autotrader and found an XJ late 2012 portfolio with 16000 miles on it for £18,900. I've put a deposit down and I'm seeing it in 2 days. As for the XF either the gearbox will he completely fixed in which case I can sell the cat for about £6,500 or I get my £5000 back and sell the car for £1500. I cannot wait to see this XJ though, if it's as good as it should be then I'm buying there and then.

Oh, that suicide bomber story is a good one! It's a beautiful car, and was from the beginning. It just needed some care which you gave it. How did they fix the tear in the rear section with just paint, or did the panel people also do a job? Not sure I quite understood that one. Great story, Matt.

Judging by the interior, i wouldn't have thought it's been serviced much at all. Timing chains should last 300k but need quality lubrication. Coolant didn't look a good colour either.
