It's what we call, "a solution looking for a problem"... Back in my younger days, THE wire stripper to have for your bench was a thermal wire stripper... They were rather expensive which is why not many people had them... I've made my own portable one using an 18650 battery and a piece of nichrome wire of an appropriate length... Another method is taking a length of braided fishing line (about 80-lb rating), make a loop over the wire where you want to remove the insulation, and then move the wire back and forth... It either abrades the insulation or generates enough friction to soften the insulation... It doesn't work as well on the higher temperature (teflon?) wires though... It's pretty good for removing the outer plastic insulation on coax and not damaging the braided shield... I've visited Australia once so far... Our ship hit port in Perth and like most of the other sailors, I don't think I made it past the first bar I encountered... That would have been over 4 decades ago... Damn, when I say it that way, it makes me feel old... The early '80s seem like *yesterday*, not over 40 years ago... :(

Knipex Flat Cable stripper works well for LSF otherwise i score the outer sheath and bend until it breaks clean through before pulling it off, depends on the cable though.

That LSF cable is direct burial underground cable, we call UF cable in the states - it is a BITCH to strip bc it’s not a hollow outer sheath, so you have to run your blade between two of the wires and then use the ground as a pull cord to rip as far back on the insulation as you need.
@AddictedtoTools Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Thanks for the info mate. Other countries are using it for general installation. Always interesting to see how others do it 👍

LSF is low smoke & fume we don't use it underground only internals alot of Ireland and the UK are moving to LSOH which is low smoke zero halogen. Just as much of a bitch to strip bit even less black smoke if it burns.
@jasonwoolford37859 ай бұрын
You can not burry lsf cable direct in the ground 🤣 I work with it almost every day in the UK it's also easy to strip with side cutters. Low smoke fumes it stands for so in the event of a fire it's not helping to burn the house down like your paper Romex
@johnsxterra90208 ай бұрын
Romex has an uninsulated ground and UF wire just insulates the ground for direct burial also cool to learn about lsf👍
