Next time you are in Sweden you should go to the Volvo Truck test senter just outside of Gothenburg, there you’ll get to test the all new d17 engine with 780hp👌🏻 then you could do a comparison against the scania 770😁

Agreed. He also should see if he could get to test drive some of the other European truck brands, like MAN, DAF, Iveco and Mercedes. Maybe even SISU while in Finland. Would be interesting to see an American view on the different brands we have here.

I worked on Volvo trucks for a few years during the 1970s. I worked on the vehicles for the Thin Lizzy and Abba tours among many. Roger Daltry (WHO) ran a fleet of them called M.L Executives. The cab-over F88 and F89 lhd were nice trucks, but exploding clutch plates were a problem with them, otherwise very reliable. Don't remember any wood floors though.

In Sweden, the Volvo D13 is probably the most common truck engine you'll see on the road. Scania are usually mixed pretty well between their I6s and V8s since they made the 500, 540 and 560hp I6s, but the D16 is not that common, even in Sweden, since you'll rarely really need more than 500 or 540hp. They actially have 510 and 551hp respectively, but advertised as 500 and 540 as to not confuse them with previous models or different engines. The only place where you'll really find the D16 is in dump trucks, hook lift trucks, logging trucks and heavy haulers. And even in those fields, the D13 is still quite common. I don't know what makes either of those two engines so undesireable in the US, but over here they run in both +40C during those extremely hot summers you'll sometimes find in southern Sweden (last time we had over 40C was 2 years ago), and the extremely cold winters you'll find in the north. So if the D13 is one of the best and most reliable engines here, but one of the worst in the US, it can't be anything other than poor build quality in the American factories. Which is one of the reasons why American trucks and engines are not very popular in Europe.
@markusylitalo83764 ай бұрын
Volvo engines get unreliable too if you service them every 60.000 miles as they appear to do over there. And we in Europe used to have much cleaner fuel than US. BMW for example had to deliver US versions with older engine versions because of that in the beginning of 2000's. The other thing is patriotism. The trucks there have to have US built engine and gearbox. It's a hard sitting believe! On the flip side US trucks are more reliable less serviced as they are more simple. One big difference is that the US engines are designed to be driven 120km/h when Euro trucks are designed to be driven max 90km/h so the engines are not optimized to be converted to be driven 120km/h.
@tntfreddan31384 ай бұрын
@@markusylitalo8376 The engine isn't affected by driving at 120km/h, since the gearboxes in the US usually has additional gears to allow for higher top speed while still keeping the RPM down. And 60 000 miles is a bit overdue for service since at our company we have service intervalls of roughly every 30-35 000 miles. Though that's because we have much higher idling time since we have electric reefer units mounted on the boxes above our cabs. We also have Volvo trucks that run on LNG and Scanias that run on RME/BIO100. The diesel Volvos run entirely on HVO100, too. So we use only fossil free fuels, except for some minor exceptions, such as if there is a problem with the pumps and we have to refuel somewhere else, for example. And those have been known to put more strain on filters and injectors and such but we've never had any issues, really.

First thing , rust proof the two panels behind the doors, right where the side repeaters are. Do it from the inside, remove the interior and lie on your belly. Then rust proof the doors from the inside and then through the drain holes. Then the hood cables may break, remove the rubber fender and Lub the bolts so when the cable breaks you can release the hood cable.
