I have a few bikes, too. Including a Ducati Diavel AMG that's been goosed and threatened into ridiculous HP/Torque. I also have a 2003 FZ1 with a quick shifter and a custom seat. That's it. If all my bikes but one had to go, the FZ1 would stay. It's as close to a perfect bike as I've ever ridden, much less owned. I found a local guy with CNC in his garage so hopefully he can help keep me in parts as the years and miles roll by.

I had a 2011 FZ 8 and a 2013 FZ1. Both were amazing bikes! I preferred the FZ1 for a number of reasons. Obviously more power and a better suspension kind of made the decision for me but the main reason I like the FZ1 is because it's a half faired motorcycle not just a naked bike. Not to mention I think it looks badass! The only problem was the motors they used was an old free crossplane R1 motor that produced a lot of vibration. Especially between 4500-6000 RPM. I would love if Yamaha would take that same dual headlight half fairing naked motorcycle look with the mt-09.

I have a small commuter bike I am working on it's a Lifan kpm 200, and it's kinda a cafe looking critter, but I only have it for 75 mpg on my 45 mile round trip commute to work 4-5 days a week. Got a 2021 SS and I'm not going to run up the Miles ya know! Anyway you can probably appreciate the motorcycle that I am currently considering. 2024 Katana.. only thing is, $14k+++. I am now thinking about getting an FZ1 to drive for a couple years while I wait for a better deal used... Fz1 is an epic motorcycle and bullet proof. I had standard maintenance and no breaks in 60k miles!! I agree whole heartedly that the FZ1 is a much better looking motorcycle than the MT10. I would like to experience the crossplane crank motor in it but I have nothing but good to say about the 20 valve. Mine was freaking carbureted too!! No issues ever.

Narrower steering bars make it easier to throw it in the twisties. Sportbikes have narrow clip-ons for that reason. Wider bars better for off-road balancing and adv riding. Would be nice if the bike had a TC and ABS. Or at least a TC giving its strong engine.

This bike is decently windy in my neck/chin area. I think it's because of the aftermarket speed screen on it and the way it directs airflow. Thanks for the comment, have been loving the bike so far!
@KutWrite4 жыл бұрын
I had an '09 for 2 years. It was (so far) my last motorcycle. I bought a taller fairing, I believe from Rifle. It was one height below their tallest. It did a great job of keeping the wind off my neck and chin. It burbled the top of my helmet a little but that was preferable to the icy cold at nights. I got some appearance mods and a Mivv exhaust for some rumble. I was going to remove the "flies" but they didn't bother me so I left 'em on. They have to do with the engine not decelerating immediately but hanging at about 6k rpm. Some EPA crap. From what I've seen and read, the MT-09 is better for around town. The FZ1 does that but also is good on the freeway for medium-long trips. Stable and smooth, yet will lean further than I will! I'd buy one again if I decide to get back into motorcycling.

While I wouldn't recommend this as a first bike, anything can be ridden as long as you respect the machine and can control the throttle. It's top end power and seat height make it intimidating to new riders. I'd say if you have ridden a little before, you should be fine on this.

I use my FZ1 NA (naked) mainly for blasting around corners on A and B roads in the UK. Very capable bike. First two gears are calmer on FZ1 than in the engine on the R1. I have Michelin Pilot 5 road tyres with 190/55 rear. I was going to trade in for MT10 but after test ride on demonstrator I definitely did not trade in!
