Since you're planning on keeping this around mostly for PS2 games I'd definitely recommend you jailbreak it just for access to fan control. I personally set my fan to dynamically cool and keep the system from going higher than 65 C. With the way the PS2's emulator works, you don't have that same level of control but you can set your console to automatically bump the fan up to a certain % when booting a PS2 game. Plus a big bonus of course is you'll be able to play whatever PS2 games you want from the internal HDD.

Good thing all Nintendo and Playstation consoles are emulation capable with almost all games being playable upscalled today. Except the PS4... and the Vita which is still on its very early days but should see progress soon. I hope to see more progress on the Xbox side though for CXBX-R and Xenia. As for the games, the internet has definitely preserved them. I think companies should always have 2 launch models each generation. One as the standard version, directed towards more casual players. And then the premium console with full backwards compatibility capable of reading cartridges, CDs, DVDs, basically for collectors or people who also still want to play older games. Otherwise we have to rely on PC emulation which to be fair, has not disappointed either.

That's because modern console use moving parts. That's always the first thing to go on most recent consoles. rafpac6 bahaha, you’re complaining about Sony releasing a console with a known issue, yet don’t say anything on the 360 which is literally known for the “red ring of death” Also pretty sure Sony acknowledges the problem just like Nintendo did with its Switch screens being kind of crap, they went “ya we know it’s a problem, but it only affects like 3% of them, so it’s fine.” I could be wrong, but I vaguely recall them saying something about the yellow light after Microsoft had their major Red Ring issue.

@@SIPEROTH I mean you're not wrong, and its also why they worked so hard on the One to make sure it didn't have the red ring issue. Also, they each sold about the same amount of consoles(within a few million), and yet over half of the 360s had that issue while a small percentage comapred ot that had the yellow light. Also to be fair the yellow light indicated a variety of issues from power, to a fan problem, to motherboard issues not just one or two like the 360's red ring did.

It was interesting to find out actually how much the MIPS R5900 GS+EE really cost Sony, which was less than $5 per unit. I think axing the GS+EE actually hurt the system, along with the premium pricetag. The RSX with it's dedicated RAM and even the Cell's difficulty to work with and code for weren't strong suits, but they weren't hurting it as bad. The loss of the emulation engine in the PS3 hurt it too, but by that time, the damage was done by the exorbitant pricetag. I would have maybe used Carbonaut Thermalpads on the other chips and maybe the CPU and GPU, or maybe Noctua NT-H1, but that's personal preference. Overall how clean the system looked is good to see. It really means it could have been taken care of really well. Good find. One good thing I liked about the PS3 was the BR-Drive had a very accurate error correcting system, because even some harder to read PSOne and PS2 games would work very well, even with light damage to the surface. I really wish Sony hadn't ended the backwards compatibility, but had kept supporting it. It really highlighted the system rather than hurt it.

You can actually buy PS3 warranty stickers now. So it is more likely that the previous owner cleaned it (Maybe more), screwed it all back up and replaced the old sticker with a new one to make it appear like it has never been opened. I've bought an A01 and B00 models recently and both of them appeared to have a warranty stickers on them... Only difference was that the top could just be slotted off, there was no security screw holding it down. Thats were I assumed it had work done on it.

If you want to play PS3 games, just get a slim. If you want to play PS2 games, you can just get a PS2. The backwards compatible PS3 is more expensive than the two combined, sometimes, and it breaks more easily and runs the PS2 games poorly. They didn't cut it because it was too expensive, it was because it didn't function with the new GPU properly and causes strange errors and about 10% of games didn't work at all.
@pyrex55944 жыл бұрын
Make a cheap PC for emulating so u can just play whatever older console games u want with upscale graphics. I did it and it’s been amazing. Of course it’s gonna be more money than buying a backwards compatible PS3 but that’s just my preference

the main issues ive found with these old ps3s is the thermo compound under the heat spreaders drys out and that is what usually causes the ylod cause it over heats and melts the solder under the gpu and cpu. sony used cheap thermo compound i delided my ps3 and put some thermo grizzly under it (artic mx-4 works well too) and then used a mod chip to speed up the fan to a constant 35% speed. it stays around 55c instead of 75 to 90c. yeah its loud but its cool and that what counts.

Did you know that thermal compound isn't actually that great at conducting heat? But it is better than nothing, which is what it's designed for, to fill the tiny gaps between the heatspreader and the heat sink.Ideally, the more metal to metal contact you can get will improve thermals.

I wish the PS3 had come out with 512MB of XDR main ram and 512MB of DDR3 video ram instead of the 256 main and video we received............same thing for the xbox 360, wish it had come out with 1024MB of GDDR3 unified ram instead of the 512mb that we got. Reason I say this is that the xbox 360 came out in november 2005 and the xbox one came out in november 2013.......8 year generation. doubling the ram would have helped but I guess no one expected the world economy to die in 2008
@strykah924 жыл бұрын
The 2008 economic crash certainly didn’t help the consumer electronics industry, but generations have generally kept getting slightly longer, so it’s likely that Microsoft and Sony still would’ve planned their next platforms for 2013 regardless. The 7th generation was an anomaly since it was started prematurely in the first place. And for all the hassle that RROD caused MS as a result, it’s unlikely they (or anyone else) will take a chance on a head start launch ever again.
