Nostalgia time for me…..i have had 2 rangie classics in my life. Both 4 doors and one was a rare LSE. they were both good to me and never left me stranded. They would go literally ANYWHERE. They were so slow you had to drive a stick in the ground to measure movement. My taste for power has led me to an Audi SQ8 which has adequate power (0-60 in 3.5 or less). I have often though of getting another classic body and making it into what it could be, swapping in a GM LS engine of 500 to 600 hp, and a transmission to match. Upgrading the brake and suspension system etc. I may actually do this although it would be a purpose built to my specs car that i would never be able to sell. Rangies do have their fiddly bits, which you might have the experience of down the road. My favorite was the rear wiper quit on one. I thought i would have to buy a new motor but then thought about it. Those things are built to be used by farmers and the like, so i took the motor out, found that the whole thing could be disassembled, took it apart found that the grease in the gear box had congealed, cleaned it repacked it and it worked till i sold the car 5 years later.👍👍

Love the nostalgia! Haha, I have experienced what you mean by speed and it’s certainly lacking in that department, but it does make me smile! I’m hopeful this Perkins engine should run for a fair while longer if I look after it and one day, I’ll convert it back to the V8

I owned one of these in 1977 3.5 V8 petrol ⛽️ and I can say it was the worst vehicle I’ve ever owned

What kind of mpg can you expect from this Rangie?

So from what I’ve read, the traditional V8s return only around 13mpg on average, but this Perkins diesel engine should average around 36mpg. Only what I’ve read so cannot verify this figure just yet!

If the mercedes was £1500 to insure and that was too much, how much are the Aston Martins/Ferrari?

A fair question, Ian. Funnily enough, the Vantage was the same amount as this Merc - go figure! The DB11 was £450 a month but I only insured it for a month. Definitely not paying the annual figure!

Ah fair enough, I’d never heard of it before. I stand corrected that it’s the first, but I do think it was still the car that made the SUV division blossom 🤪

Correct but it’s a pile of crap a pickup chassis with a estate wagon body on.

@@MarkWright1963 different frame, based on the pickup yes, but frame designed for an SUV body. I'd take a Burb anyday over any Range Rover

hmmm. you will need a reliable vehicle for towing , just imagine what would happen when you break down whilst towing another vehicle... OOOPS i think you might be changing that soon !!
