Talking about bringing back memories of old videos! The good old AT&T Malibu's! At first I thought this was one that was an AT&T car sold then re-auctioned I didn't know they tinted the windows. But that risk mgt book proves it is. Pretty cool. Has to be one of the last ones left. With todays car prices still hard to beat a $400 car! Especially one of these gems!

Interesting that you mentioned the 3100's may have updated (less problematic) intake manifold gaskets in later models like this because my grandmother had a 97 Malibu LS with the 3100 that she bought brand new and the intake gaskets failed in 2009 at around 75,000 miles and killed the motor, I had to yank it out and put a junkyard 3100 in it with double the miles. She decided not to keep it long and bought a 2010 Chevy Cobalt that she still drives, that damn thing still has the original brake pads on it with about 81-82k miles and has never needed a single repair ever, just tires once. But that 3100 in her Malibu really pissed me off for her, glad that maybe GM didn't let that defect linger like they did with the Northstars.
@bigalsbikeandauto2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know for certain if they did update the intake gaskets on the later 3100 but from my experience I see and have experienced way less failure with them than the earlier ones.

Nothing a trip to the Junk yard for parts and a good valeting won't cure. It's really interesting because it's around 2000 - 2005 that American cars are starting to take on more of a Euro/Japanese influenced styling rather than the distinct US styling of earlier years.

Yep , my intake on my cutlass failed at 124,000 miles. Started leaking below the power steering pump. I put some K seal sealer in it and so far so good. Had a 96 Monte Carlo that had an intake problem in the mid-late 120k range.... Also had one go on a 2001 Malibu LS but no clue oin the mileage.... somewhere between 100-110k. Both had 3100s, and noticed the newer one in the malibu compaired to the Monte Carlo and the 94 Cutlass Supereme SL we had before produced 5 HP less than the 2001 did. The engine bay design was a lot better and easier to work on in the newer one as well.

My job (not phone related) back in the mid ‘00s used some of these Malibus. I agree, they are not exciting and I also never paid an attention to them when they first came out in the 1990s. They are very roomy and reasonably comfortable (great headroom!) and reliable. I have to admit, I prefer the Olds Cutlass version of this car and a clean one would be a great score!

I really wish I could find a cheap car like that since my 2004 Z71 Tahoe decided to start making knock knock jokes out of the blue and I have never been a huge fan of Chevy's and their knock knock jokes. Even worse is LS engines are so popular that they have skyrocketed in price and not going to drop $5K into a $3K truck but a cheap car like that would be perfect to drive around in but would be better if it had the 2.2 litre motor since those are good engines..I know I had an S10 with that motor and nothing would kill it except when I rolled it lol anyways good video man and good to see you uploading again!

The largely forgotten 2004-2007 models (technically 2008 since that year overlapped with the new bodystyle 08-12 Malibu for fleet sales) were good cars too. The optional 3500 V6's in them were tanks and the transmissions just as solid - Dumpy looking but the Maxx station wagons are kinda cool.
