Actually , in Inazuma there are many NPCs that are from Fontaine. From what I remember around 3 or 4 quests were revolved around them . Quest where we made a movie , and with Tataratsuna are the ones that I remember on the top of my head . So yeah , it makes sense that Ayaka got Fontanie outfit since Sakoku degree got lifted and they can trade with other nations

During the Bakumatsu period of japan (1850's) was when Japan started to become more open to western influences mainly because they realized they were really behind in technology. However there was plenty of backlash against the west so they had a civil war about it which led to the Shogun (The Military leader) losing power and being dethroned by the Emperor (Wealthy Ruling class) which was pro west at the time while the shogun was traditional and wanted to retain a samurai police class called the Shinsengumi. The Shogunate was seen as popular with the people mainly because the Tokugawa Shogunate brought peace and prosperity after a century prior of war called the Sengoku Jidai. However the shogunate was starting to hold progress back due to how traditional they were so they eventually fizzled out. This was around the 1850's and it involved many western nations such as the French, Americans and British all vying for a foothold to trade with Asia and they saw Japan as the first step to entering Asia's theater which in the end America ended up controlling after the events of WW2. The fall of the Shogunate in my eyes was a sad but necessary step for Japan to modernize because if it was not for the Tokugawa Shogunate Japan would not have been united as a single country at the time and that would have lead to worse results for Japan in the long term but if the Shogunate was allowed to stay in power Japan would not advance technologically speaking either. This is why there is still a strong xenophobic culture in japan to this day that is only now fizzling out as the new generations have only experienced a modernized world. The Bakumatsu period was a very interesting period to experience because you would see lines of people with swords charging towards lines of people with guns. It was basically one of the last old ways humans fought wars, now clashing with a modern way humans now fought wars. In the present day, The French's main influence for Asia is mainly cuisine and fashion. Particularly in japan they focus on a lot of french baked goods such as strawberry shortcakes, macarons, and various breadmaking. Specifically Japan is obsessed with re-interpretting french baking by making their recipes smaller and cuter on the presentation side of things and the bread way more soft and fluffier. Also lolita was a pretty big fashion style in the early to late 2000's that was heavily inspired by french dresses. My personal opinion on ayaka's new skin is I don't like it. I rolled on Ayaka to play as a OnnaBushi (Samurai girl) so spending 15 bucks to remove the original reason why I wanted her would be a loss for me. It's funny because even to this day just me liking Ayaka's original outfit would be seen as me liking the traditional Japan and me rejecting the new skin is me rejecting the modern Japan. So in a way I am presently expressing exactly what has happened in the history of Japan, however I am glad to not have lived in such a violent past. So that shows the progress of how humans in general grow less violent as we progress in the never ending tapestry of human history. However there is always progress to be done, even today.

So Japan was forced to modernize and work with the west instead of fighting a losing war against the west. And Ironically Japan had embraced tech ever since and have become one of the most advanced technologically developed countries to this day. Especially their transportation infrastructure which allowed it all to happen. Bullet trains. The west today is just now realizing that Bullet trains is the best form of transportation instead of cars but our infastructure currently is still not designed for trains so we can't develop megalopolises as easily. California started building bullet train system for ten years and its still under construction and wont be finished for a few more decades.

Ayaka’s skin is actually based off the Japanese mejin era when they were stuck during lockdown some Japanese people started taking inspiration from western clothing and put it in their own clothes which explains the yee-haw boots
