Super-cool! There were 3 circuit types back in the day... they had different capacitor networks to create different frequency responses. They were called Bass, Normal & Treble circuits. Also, you never know what's happened to the amp over the decades... I've repaired and restored a number of vintage AC30's and they all had 'a lot' of circuit changes (mainly cap replacements) over the time. The speaker configurations also change the sound great deal - my fav speakers for my 90's AC30, that I've made as a hardwired 60's 'Normal' circuit spec, are a pair of Celestial Greenbacks; this controls the glassy/shrill top-end that these amps 'can' have. Vox AC30's are great amps, but defo a beast you have to play and learn, they are not a simple plug-in and instant sound amp, at all; they need time and patience to get the best from them. And, they ain't for everyone! But I love them! Cool video! MUSIC=LIFE 🕊❤

Thanks! The Stomp patches don’t have snapshots. The effects are mapped to the buttons so you can just turn them on/off. But since we use two amp/IR blocks in the stomp patches, there isn’t enough DSP to put enough effects in to warrant snapshots.

The whole “korg era” thing makes no sense. Korg bought Vox in the early 90’s and still owns Vox to this day. Marshall was building those amps for Korg during the 90’s to early 2000’s. Should be called the “Marshall era”…

Btw, from what I read Brian May had the top boost channels/circuits removed/bypassed in his amplifiers. He would use a treble boost in front through the normal channel. The choice to add the top boost circuit is definitely yours to make. I have modified then subsequently un-modified quite a few amplifiers in my day. I now prefer to find a pedal that adds closely enough what I am looking for. No regrets.

A guy on Reverb sells them. I would buy a new rear panel with the Top Boost cutout so that you don't destroy your original one. If you don't like the TB sound, it is easy to remove/reverse without a trace, and you reinstall the original rear cover.

I take it the O2 Vox is the 1st chinese made Vox ac30's. I have the Marshall Korg vox from 1993, which is pretty close to the original top boost. Marshall Factory made them, it says so on the back. How much this differs from the Chinese ones I do not know. Mine does not have the Alnico speakers, it has the celestions, which do yield the darker sound. Alnicos might be to bright, or replicate that 64 better. Just my 2 cents.

I wish I could get the Vox thing, but I just can’t. I prefer Fender Tweed, Cream/Brown, and Blackface amps, especially with a Gibson guitar. I’ve played with a lot of Worship guitarists who come in with a Vox amp and a pedalboard loaded with a fortune in pedals that can make their guitar sound like anything but a guitar. I’m the guy who says if you want my guitar to sound like a keyboard, I’d rather just play a keyboard. I like my guitar rig to sound like the guitar that I’m playing through it. And, then these guys are surprised at how I get my great guitar sounds. Lol! Too bad the influence over the style of Worship guitar isn’t a bit less like The Edge and a whole lot more like Clapton.

Why with all the technology and tools nowadays we just can’t make the same amp that sound this good they made it 60 yrs ago?
@wttone Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. I think there are a couple main factors: It’s probably not very cost effective for companies to build amps like they did that long ago. Some will do it - Fender with the ‘64 hand wired re-issues for example. But they’re expensive and probably don’t sell as well as cheaper options. Another factor is the speakers, which are a huge part of the sound of an amp. I’d suspect it’s very difficult to recreate an aged speaker.

@@CatchMeOutside361 I do sense a touch of sarcasm in your post. Let me set the record straight from the horses mouth not the other end lol . First let me say I was totally inspired to be an amp builder from my love of the AC 30. And yes the AC 30 in this video sounds amazing. But let's not forget a good portion of that tone is derived from the vintage Celestion Alnico 12's, to plug that amp into any other 2x12 cab would not reach the same sonic results. Brad loved the tone of an AC 30 and Tele combination , but high maintenance cost, and poor reliability on the road caused him to look for alternatives. Thats when he approached me and asked for a more rugged AC 30 voiced amp. This not unusual as Ken Fischer did the same thing in the 1980's and the brilliant Mark Samson did the same in the 1990's, it was my turn in the 2000's. But not all the amp collaborations with Brad were AC 30 based, the DB 4 ( Doc & Brads 4th amp collaboration ) which Brad still proudly plays on every stage is an original design with a very unique EL 84 tone. The RX Extra Strength was another Brad collaboration which is not at all based on the AC 30.
