That 80 is in really good nick, I'd keep it pretty mild on the modifications. As you said, spice up the 4.5 a little, freshen up the suspension, a nice wheel and tyre combo and some nicer bar work. A sweet touring rig/shopping cart.

Number 1, part time 4wd kit. 2nd, 2.5 inch exhaust with extractors. Three, hit up diesel conversions australia / adventurecorp, they have a nice little diy bullbar. Number the 4th, get lockers in it. Youll immediately slip a wheel lol So jealous demi, dont let tyler dictate the mods. Look what happened to the patrols.

Welcome to the Toyota LandCruiser family. I also have a 4.5 litre petrol 80 Series auto. Uber happy with mine, but it does love a drink (average: 18-19L/100km road / 24-26L/100km offroad tracks / 27-29km sand/beach), but the engine and drivetrain are bulletproof. And when going uphill (on-road) and kitted (mine has a RTT, 270 awning, drawers, barriers, fridge etc.), it does show its lack of grunt. That's why I've been thinking about a turbo kit for a while. But unsure how that will impact its reliability and durability, which is more important to me than power. That's why I haven't done it yet. So if you decide to turbo your LC80, I'll be eagerly following that. As for tips,... look at the KAON Rear Top Shelf - so handy. And if you are thinking at fitting gullwing doors for the rear side windows, I personally like the ones from The Cruiser Company. Aussie made and very OEM looking. Congratulations on the new 4WD. Funny collab with the other KZbinrs. Made me lol. 🤣 👍
@fatmanoverlanding Жыл бұрын
Love the intro with the cameo's of other KZbinrs. Funny stuff. 👏 Great choice of car. Demi has excellent taste in 4WDs. Then again I'm biased as I too have an 80 Series GXL 4.5L petrol - a 1996 model. Mine is also white with black trims. I named it "Snoopy", coz of the same colour combo of the character. And like you, first thing I did was removed its 90s style aluminium bullbar that it had on, and fitted a factory bumper bar that had an JDM OEM Toyota bumper guard fitted. Great to hear you're keeping your LC80 relatively stock. Grandpa spec ones are getting rarer each year. Factory OEM bumper bars do come up regularly in Gumtree. Just be patient, as some want idiotic money for them,. But some do come up that are reasonably priced. Congratulations on the new 4WD. Looking forward to see what you'll do to it. 👍👌❤

If you put 35's on it with the way Demi likes to sends it, be prepared for broken axles and diff centres 🤣 My vote is keep it tame, 2" lift, 33's, some bar work and maybe a locker, and do a nice touring setup in the back. You've already got two big expensive builds, it'd be nice to see something a little more affordable.

With the steering box, I found rather than go through the process of engineering a GU steering box, it was much easier and just as good to get a 2006-2007 105 sector shaft and pitment arm from terrain tamer, which fits in the standard steering box. Pricy, but well worth it as I'd twisted my standard sector shaft and the late 105 shaft is much thicker where they tend to twist

Reinforce the panhard mounts too as they tend to rip off the chassis.

Do your research on engine swapping petrol to diesel. Shaun Whale recently did the reverse of that to make Sooty 2 and had a lot of trouble with different mounting point for the engine and the box, different subframe too I believe.

I made a comment a few weeks ago about doing 33s, you should definitely do 35s though. Over 33s, it won’t cost you much more in fuel. Looks better. Same defect as 33s. Win win.

Good choice. For a tourer, dont jeed any more than 2 inch lift with some 33s. My 105 (almost same as 80) has 2 inch OME with 33 ATs and hasnt gotten me stuck yet. Depending on kms, check for burnt valves but apart from that, engine wise they are pretty much indestructible with forged internals from the factory. Only downfall with the 80series 1FZ is the distributor on water crossings. Seal it up before the crossing when you tie your fan blades and good to go.

Tyres, 16 rims and 305 tyres Tyler. 33's are perfect forvwhat you need mate. Dont go narrow 285, 305 the proper 33 inch tyres are great on these, fill guards out and really good off road.

The oil pan gaskets are a misery on those unless you have the engine out. There's even a specific pattern in the FSM for the FIPG stuff. I'd also be curious if the head gasket is original. IIRC Australian-spec FZJ80s had less issues with those since there's no EGR to heat up cyls 5 & 6 like here in the states.

Nice mate. Can come down to Vic and take pics with our 80. Twin locked is the go. Solid pinion spacers in the diff. Prob needs the valve lash done if it’s down on power a bit. Brace the front diff and the knuckles. Part time kit will prob save you 1-2L per hundred but will also reduce the wear on front diff parts.

Have a look where the inner front guards connect to the firewall, they rust out. Really common issue but fairly easily fixed. Other then that just ya usual solid axle maintenance shit. The upper tailgates rust on the bottom where the window rubber is but you will see that when it becomes an issue. Mines rusted but can’t be fucked fixing it yet lol

Congrats on the 80, great change an addition to the channel. I’m a Toyota guy that likes GQs and GUs, so enjoy the process, I wouldn’t throw 35s on it straight away, 33s are very capable on 80s, esp for Demi as a daily driver, def do your suspension, bushes, get spring rates right esp in the rear, plate the chassis around the steering box if ya going to go hard off road, Id do it anyways, keep ya fluids & filters fresh and she’ll go and go and go. Enjoy, if anymore pink jokes or Rose Gold, I’m gonna have nightmares, 🤘🍻
