I really enjoyed this video! The problem with so many advent calendars (from Etsy to Chanel) is that the manufacturers think that we should pay for the privilege of just opening them! They don’t seem to realize that if we can’t pick what we want, we want a bargain! We could probably do just as well buying 12 random items from the dollar store. Also, these calendars all have same definition of luxury self care: put on an eye mask, eat a cookie, and write something in a journal! There must be better ways to spend our leisure time! 😂

It’s really hard to make any of these handmade advent calendars feel worth it and not a “rip off” because you’re always going to get less than what someone can buy in the store. Unless all 12-25 items are handmade, it’s really hard to justify it by saying, “I could have gone to the store and bought that cheaper” but you’re not just paying for the items themselves, you’re also paying for the time it took someone else to put it together and wrap everything nicely and number them (which takes more time than you’d think!) and it’s more about the surprise each day than the actual “value” of the items (because again, unless they are all homemade, it’s hard to justify the price because it’s always going to cost more than what you could buy in a store yourself). Just my two cents as someone who knows what goes into making these kind of advent calendars (I don’t make them to sell them but I have made them for my friends and family for Christmas). I would make them to sell them, but I doubt anyone who is making these Etsy advent calendars are even turning much of any profit, since the expectation for them is so high even when they only cost $40 (because most people compare it to what a billion dollar company can manufacture, and remember, most of those Fortune 500 company made advent calendars cost more than these Etsy calendars) so it just isn’t realistic for any individual to make. I bet if you added up the total of what you would buy all those items in the store, it would come out to roughly what she paid for it (including the wrapping paper, stickers, tape, shipping, etc), especially considering that some of the items ARE homemade and I’ve easily spent $14 on a homemade bar of soap that was part of that last $40 box. I’m honestly shocked anyone would take the time to put these together considering most people have this attitude that it isn’t worth it and think it’s a “rip off.” :(

Probably. Though tbf you can buy n bulk boxes of those hotel supplies from websites. Like little 20ml shower gel tubes 500 pieces for £58. So I imagine you can probably do the same with the soap. All those tea bags though, it makes me wonder...like, I now have this image of a person who travels a lot for business loading their case up with the teabags and bathroom products, clearing out the hot drink supplies every day and getting them replenished, all so they can put them all in these advent calendars. Lol.

Like if they added in a book or something else like a craft maybe, that way you have your little tea and treats, whilst doing a craft or reading. But I feel like you spent Way too much for cheap treats and hotel soap 😕

It was definitely over priced- even for a hand packed box. But I also feel like they curated it towards the intended target the best. If that makes sense. Like if they budgeted the Value better it would be a good box

I think it’s worth noting the jewelry was stainless steel. The box was priced at €50 and they included 3 pieces of jewelry (a little bit over €10 each). Then they included those cotton rounds that look to be hand made and could cost around €15 for that reason. so the margin for all the other stuff AND the seller to get a benefit is really low, actually. I can only imagine they got these things on sale cause otherwise, as boring as it looks, the math wouldn’t add up

If you look at the first one as being for a 13-14yo teen it's pretty good! And the womens one definitely made more for women in their 30-40s so everyday you get pampered or tea and a treat. I'd personally love it as an end of day treat when kids are asleep lol

I understand the box came from Spain so you had to pay for the delivery, however the actual box was well overpriced! I don’t think any of them were bad value. Once you take into account the cost per item plus packaging and time spent assembling them. Then you have postage and they obviously need to make a profit. If there are 25 items and you only spend £1.50 per item that’s already £37.50 without all the other expenses.

Coming at this from 2 perspectives - 1) As someone who makes boxes like these as gifts for friends the prices seem steep *but* given the time and effort it saves it's not unreasonable. 2) As an Etsy seller (but not of these kinds of products) Etsy really do rip sellers off a lot, the fees are crazy so there has to be a mark up or they'd lose money/only break even 😢 Overall, I personally wouldn't buy them but I can see the appeal for some people.

Being a 45year old woman, I actually liked the one for teen girls the most, the "luxury ladies one, for 60$ not at all worth it, you can get everything in that box at the dollar store. And as for the boxes with multiple items, those are broke down items from other dollar store foods. So even with taking into account for them wrapping everything up nicely, it ain't worth it babe. And the men's one, I would have thought there would have been less bath items and more tools, razors, shaving foam &brush, type things, but it was still better than the ladies one.
