The SE Artist reminds me of my favorite years of Buffet-1963, 65, and 68. In fact, it sounds more reminiscent (at least from your video) than any modern Buffet models (including the notoriously inconsistent modern R13's), which are trending more and more dull. I'm glad to see color isn't completely out of style yet!

YOU USED TO BE MY TEACHER ❤ I had to sub as I've been getting back into clarinet recently. Cheers!

This is really an interesting and helpful video. I'm amazed at the consistency in all the Yamaha clarinets. Thanks for posting this.

The CSG is a fantastic instrument. Modern and fantastic ergonomics. However, after days of playing and comparing with the Buffet Crampon Divine (which preferred above the RC, Prestige, Tosca, Legende) the BC Divine won by far. It also blended better in the orchestra. Nevertheless, the Yamaha CSG is really a great instrument, matter of taste.

To my ears CSVR and SE both sounded better than the CSG. It then all depends on your setup and how much air you want to be able to blow through the instrument.

You more in clarinets in that room, than I do cars in my driveway.. 😅.. Very nice video.. My granddaughter is just starting, I hope she takes a super liking to it. Got her a Yamaha YCL 255 to start put with, but if she sticks with it a big upgrade will come in high school..

I have heard so much good of their Bb and then I play one of their pro bass clarinets and it is nowhere near a selmer or buffet. So interesting.

You sound great on all of them but you seem most comfortable on the SE Artist! Thank you for the video!

Nicely made video! What mouthpiece do you play on the SE artist? My playnick puccini makes the lower notes too sharp:/

i'm also using a csg for a about 2 years, but don't you realize that yamaha clarinet's key are too soft? it happened to me for playing a while maybe half year the keys start clap clap clap the sound...

Thanks so much. It seems the CSG was discontinued? I'm looking forward to trying the csvr, csvr-asp, and se-artist, though it seems they are not all easy to find here in the Bay Area. You sound great. I'm actually amazed you play on legere reeds, especially with a bd5. I have not had great luck through the range of the instrument (using an R13). What strength do you use?

Dr. T, can you tell me the weight of SE artist model is? I do like SE Artist tone, but if a lot heavier, then I will just pick one lighter.

It's amazing how few good players ever notice how really FLAT the throat A & Bb sounds or even why that often happens. As a jazz player, I have to be constantly aware of my mouth to maintain a "smile" which keeps the throat tones IN TUNE! Why don't these "great players" HEAR Just how flat their throat tones often are????? To each their own...out of tune notes just make me CRAZY!!!

It’s interesting how subjective sound concepts are. I love the csvr-asp but there is something extra special about se artist. I think either set would do really well for me!
