What’s going on with all these brands we don’t recognize showing up when we’re shopping for graphic’s cards online? The prices seem too good to be true! Are these GPUs a bargain, a scam, or something in between?

@@babaloons4887 yeah I would love to see more content like that. I would love to see just complete batshit stuff purchased and then made to work. Yeston is a legit brand that isn’t as well known here in the US and Canada, but they make some cool and interesting looking cards. The GN review of their CutePet RX580 is what first drew my attention to them. I would absolutely buy one of their cards for a build for purely aesthetic reasons, because they make stuff in colors my wife would really like. The only bummer and reason I haven’t gotten one is that they’re a little slower to market with the models they sell, and they stick to more mid-range and budget cards than I’ve been in the market for in the past. Eventually, when that isn’t the case, maybe I’ll get something with more feminine colors for my wife’s gaming PC, and do a pink and white build or preferably cute little critter like their mascot YuanYuan (or however it’s spelled).

We see a lot of Taiwanese brands in Japan that rarely make it to the west. Palit, Gainward, Galakuro (technically a rebrand of Sparkle cards from what I understand), Leadtek, Elsa... It can come off as a bit suspicious when you've never heard of hem before, but they're legit Nvidia partners and very big throughout Asia. I think Yeston is Shenzhen based, and is also mildly well known here for their GPUs/cases with anime girls slapped on 'em. They're kind of their own niche lol.

The only name I've not seen in the UK is Galakuro. The rest have been accepted as 'standard' tech brands for quite a long time. It was quite normal in the past to see multiple brands with identical looking cards (other than the logo) because they were all made by the same manufacturing company that often had a name unpalatable to the western ear or tongue (no racism intended, it was the view of the markets - not me!). That's why you'd see consumer products with 'Panasonic' or 'Technics' branding rather than Matsushita. Sometimes they were only different externally and you'd only know if you had one of each and took them apart. 🤓

Depending on the price difference, warranties can be over rated. According to the numbers in this video, these refurbed cards sell for about 2/3 of the price. Currently most of the "major" brands have 3 year warranties. So if it lasts you 2 years on average, you break even. Statistically, I think you will beat those odds. GPUs aren't the sort of thing that break after 3 years if it's working at all. Since all of the cards in this video works right now, I'd bet more than 2/3 of them would still be working in 3 years. And it's also a lot faster to buy a new one than to wait for RMA. You'll have much less downtime. Like other types of insurance, you're actually paying an extra premium for risk reduction. If they're so cheap that you can eat the cost of risks, doing that is always cheaper than buying insurance (otherwise the insurance seller wouldn't profit). And at $150-200 as opposed to something like $1000, I think this is a case where most gamers will save money by shouldering the risk themselves instead of buying insurance (aka warranty).

Their non special edition cards can sometimes be found on the Chinese market places like Aliexpress for good prices, but getting a warranty claim is going to be a bit more of a hassle, and you have to watch the temps as their coolers sometimes are not the most robust as from what I'm seeing from reviews, but I think some better thermal paste, and case airflow can help offset it somewhat if you do find a good deal on one.

Yes. It is a Chinese company which is focus on the China market. In China, it's definitely not an off-brand company, although it won't be considered as a great brand like ASUS. Yeston is in the list of "AMD Global Add-in-Board (AIB) Regional Partners / Brand Holders". But in my memory, it's not a NVIDIA AIC company. (They had made some NVIDIA cards, but if you're Chinese, when you mention this brand, the first thing come up in your mind is its AMD card.) I can't find it on the NVIDIA partner page, however, it seems Yeston is pushing their NVIDIA products and on the purchase page of Nvidia’s Chinese official website, Yeston is called as "伙伴" (Partner) recently. Besides, about waifu card, another company in China, Maxsun, also makes a series of waifu cards called "瑷珈" (not sure about English name). I have one. In China, maxsun is similar to yeston, but they are more focus on NVIDIA card. "瑷珈" has RTX30/40 GPUs now, maybe you will be interested in it. I have some graphics cards from Mllse in use. My AMD RX580 has been working without problems for over 3 years and I also recently started using a Radeon RX 5500XT. Replacing the thermal paste is a must with these types of graphics cards, because they really get too hot because the cooling is not optimal.
@alexisrivera200xable
@alexisrivera200xable 10 ай бұрын
That is true, but they run hot even with a thermal paste change. I got an RX 590, and it runs hot just like the R9 380x it replaced. They handle the heat well but dont have much headroom for overclocking as a result unless you improve cooling significantly.

The only tech scam for which I’ve ever fallen is with the HDMI 2.1 Switchers. Having only one port on my TV means I’ve always had to get up, unplug, plug in, have it recognize and switch my settings, and then sit back down. It’s not horrible… but it’s annoying. So I bought a $40 switcher about one year ago. Needless to say, it did virtually nothing of what it advertised. Even specifically stating 8K60 on there. Ugh. It was some random Chinese company :/ I can only imagine someone less technically literate being scammed out of much much more moolah.

I picked up a few of these a while back to see if I could use them in the systems I sell. Conclusion: So long as it's a low thermal output GPU then they seem fine. The very VERY basic cooler design on most of them is the only issue I saw that caused an actual issue. So long as thermal output is easy to manage they run great. This includes overclocking memory to see if they'd fail (none did). The GTX 1660 (pick a flavor) cards seemed to be a sweet spot. Even the RX 580 8gb, in a well flowing case with plenty of fans, can be a thermal issue if not undervolted slightly. These thermal concerns were an issue even with quality thermal paste/pad swaps by the way. - That said, as soon as GPU prices dropped I switched to used-non-mining cards. Fewer concerns overall and brand names (which can help sell PCs). ------- Edit: I hear that the 30 series mobile based dedicated GPUs can be great price-to-performance deals but haven't tried any.

DO NOT buy mobile Nvidia GPUs on a dedicated board. Their only use is for mining. For other purposes, driver support is abysmal. Official drivers won't work, so the seller will send you hacked Nvidia drivers with malware...

Kinology is a mostly legit second-hand GPU vendor in China, which offers 2-year warranty via Taobao and a significantly lower price. Basically if you're in China it's a decent choice to buy GPUs from them provided you've known the risk of purchasing refurbished mining GPUs.

I've used many of these for system builds for clients...they honestly could care less about "brand names", they simply want a working computer with some gaming chops. Some worked better than others, and I've been burned a few times as well. I've also found some gems, sadly some of these sellers don't stick around long enough to rebuy, but I'm happy I found the ones I found. As always, buyer beware, this isn't a sound way to do what I've been doing, but it's surprisingly sustainable. I always find another seller, always. Taking the risk is entirely up to you, your mileage may vary, a lot, but it's worth a chance.
