GM really screwed up discontinuing these, but they always manage to F up a good thing so it's no surprise. It was the best vehicle they had made in over a decade and could be even better by now. All they'd need to do is raise it a couple inches and add a higher rear ceiling and it would've catered just fine to the "I must have an SUV" crowd.

Man, that's so true. A classic example was the 1989 1/2 Pontiac Fiero. Aftet several years of what was a car put into production Way Too Soon; screw up after screw up; public relations fiasco; and then what auto enthusiasts, publications, and people-in-the-know believe too finally be the perfect rendition of the Fiero, GM pulled the plug due to public perception of the car and GM's image of what was then seen as an unreliable vehicle.

use the new 2022 blazer(small 4 cyl) platform (not the trailblazer) and intergrate it that. problem solved?? You got the EV suv done.

I’m so done with GM , I own 2 fairly new gmcs and I’m in a big hurry to switch my truck to a ford and the wife’s Acadia to either a hyandi Santa Fe or a Mitsubishi Outlander

Love it! I bought a gen 1 volt brand new and then a 2018 volt Premier with all options brand new (for $22k after incentives and tax rebates). Can't agree more that the volt is the ultimate daily. I've put over 130k miles on my volts and never had a problem!

I just bought a 2017 for 21k with 30k miles two weeks ago and I love it so much more than I thought I would. I was still very much on the fence when I got it but it's such a good deal (for the current time) I couldn't pass it up. It's perfect for me, I still have my fun weekend car and a jeep for the snow. I work 25 miles away 95% highway and I manage 54 ev miles somehow. Everyone who knows me scratched their head at the decision because GM did such a poor job advertising these, it takes seeing it in person and driving one to actually understand what this is. Gas prices aren't going down any time soon, and Volt prices are just going to keep going up, now is the time to get one

My Son has a 2nd Gen Volt and I have a 2017 Bolt EV. We really like our Bolt, it just got a new Battery pack that upgraded it from the old 60kWh to 66kWh. I regularly get over 230 miles of range in mixed driving, if I stick to city it gets over 300 miles. I use a 32amp level 2 EVSE and can charge it easily while I sleep in less than 6 hours. Since The first of the year I have driven it over 7,000 miles at a cost of $230 in electricity. To me A Bolt EV is the perfect commuter car and great for quick 1 day road trips.

I own the same car. I’ve had it for 4 years now and it’s been the best car I’ve ever purchased. I discovered the 110 charger will also accept 220, which obviously cuts charge time way down. I can go for months without visiting a gas station. Fun stuff!

I own a 2017 2nd gen. In 2018, I used a whopping 5 gallons of gas for the entire year. Driving 10k miles on 5 gallons of gas felt damn good.

Realistically, 50 on electric and 300 plus on gas. 350 combined is a reasonable expectation. You can get more miles out them by using a tempered driving technique and with some terrain help. I've managed to completely recharge my EV through re-gen braking in downhill/ mountainous roads.So in those situations I might push closer to a 400 mile range.

Got a '17 Volt for my wife, a lease return with just under 30K miles on it. She drives up and down a pretty steep hill to work. Her '11 Pathfinder 4x4 averaged about 13 mpg, but now she burns most of her range going up the hill but gets a lot of it back on the way down. We only fill the 10 gallon tank about every 6-8 weeks. Not a dream ride but definitely saving us $$$, especially since we charge it using our home solar. Crazy enough most PHEVs today still don't have the 53 miles of EV range the Volt had way back in '16-'17.

I have been driving my 2016 Premiere for 4.5 years and love it as much as you do. In the summer, I get about 60 mile of range, in the winter, closer to 35. Gas mileage ranges from 35-45 depending on the situation. I paid $21.5 for it in November of 2017 with 39K miles on it which was a really good price. I am now at 65K miles. I love this car!

I got a 2017 Volt about a year and a half ago and I've never been so happy with an automobile purchase. I work 30 miles from home and went from burning 20 gallons a week in my minivan (for the work commute alone, not including weekends and occasional road trips with the kids) to zero. Literally have not used a drop of gas for work in over a year! Side note, I do get 70 miles on a charge, but only because I take a route with a 45 MPH speed limit the whole way. I think I get 50 miles on a full charge doing 70 on the freeway. Great purchase brother! Now enjoy trying to explain what kind of car it is for the rest of your ownership. "It's kind of a hybrid but it's mostly an EV. You could call it a plug-in hybrid, but those only get like 10 miles on a charge and they still use the gas engine for high power whereas this one can operate completely independent of the gas engine..."

I'm not a GM fan but I have to say the Volt was a great car and much nicer then the Prius everyone loves. It looks like a normal decent looking sedan and I'd certainly drive one after feeding my 06 Charger RT for about a year. Can't afford that kind of money but if you can and it's nice it's a great choice.

I am a gm fan, but older radwood and i really wanted a gen 1 volt as they were so much nicer looking than the gen 2 Prius... however the prius is known for going 300k + and has tremendous support for parts and aftermarket as well as having lots of tech than has stayed just as reliable... their was so many prius sold that they were much more affordable as well, we payed 2700 for our 07 Prius with 175k 3 years ago... been pretty bulletproof with 230k at the moment

I’d say it looks downright sleek and futuristic for a mid-2010’s design. Very shark-like, and the fin antenna completes the picture. People have this image of stubby dinky-wheeled Priuses when they think hybrid. If Chevy had used the Volt as the tip of the spear to banish that image, it would have been a game changer.

That’s my exact Volt (except the Cal pkg) and I couldn’t agree more! At 60K miles I still get 57 miles of range.

Loved your video. I have the same car and I love it! The Bose sound system is fabulous and I have never driven a car that handles so well in tight spaces and I am 75 years old. The most electric miles I’ve gotten is 78! I live in Detroit.❤

i’m visiting sweden, and it’s crazy how many EVs they have on the road! of course teslas, but also electric VWs nissans volvos polestars buses scooters, etc. really changed my perspective on the viability of EVs-they really sent it. most surprising is how many mustang mach e’s are here... there’s a ton

Over in Euro we're really marching on with it. ICE only cars banned from 2030. It's things like that that force manufacturers to up their game and develop the tech - otherwise they just take the cheap option, don't invest in new technologies and just keep churning out the same stuff for max returns.

Excellent reporting. I bought a Gen 1 Volt new and loved it for many of the reasons you mentioned. Bought a '17 Gen 2 Premier new and thought it was much improved over Gen 1. I believe the Gen 2 is several hundred pounds lighter than Gen 1 which explains better performance and mileage. Recently bought a '21 Tesla Model Y Long Range that I love for all the reasons you would imagine. I gave the Volt to a guy who works for me and it is still going strong. I never had to take either Volt to the dealer for anything. They are amazing, and very under-rated cars.

I have a 2014 modified with the "ELR mod" to make 249HP at the motor, fantastic car. Hopefully tuners will crack the 2nd gen at some point.

I love my new 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid. Around 40mpg and talk about fast. The 2 electric motors and the 2.5ltr 4 cylinder combine to make some serious power.

I bought a used 2019 about 2 years ago and love the car just as mentioned in the video. I had been looking for a 19 for months and this was just before used cars went nuts with pricing. It was a trade at the local Volvo dealer which arrived while I was waiting for my Shelby service at ford across the street and spotted driving around the lot. They were testing is just before putting it up for sale..I went right over and told them to put a sold sign on in right away. It was a lease return with 16k miles on it and in perfect condition. Just love it for everything. I have vacation home 380 miles away and with and can make on one tank/charge and passes well and just bummed it is limited to 103 mph. My only issue was the shift to park problem which is problem relevant in most of chevy's lineup with that shifter.

I think GM was stupid for (once again) coming out with multiple vehicles with very similar names. Bolt/Volt and Lumina/Lumina APV just to name a couple of their shining dumb examples.

I bought my Volt 3/2011. Still driving it today. Range has dropped from 38 to 31, not a problem with its range extender. Only problems were the charge door servo and the 12 volt battery. The 3.3 kw charger works seems slow but works perfectly with my solar array, i.e., I don’t have to pull from the grid if the sun is shining. Love the car, think the volt concept is more valid today than back in 2011.

We bought a Gen 1 new and picked up a 2017 Gen2 premier used a couple of years ago; pretty much no miles on it. The Volt is perfect for northern climates because of no range anxiety in winter due to battery efficiency. I really like the Gen2 because it fits taller people like me. No more smacking my head getting in or out. I agree with your assessment that it's the perfect daily driver, especially since my work has free charging. Now thrme downside, could you talk to my wife about letting me use it more? It's her car.

On the positive side, the California extension on your electric and emissions drivetrain warranty is 10 years 150,000 miles applies to your car no matter where it is located. I've heard that a sticking EGR valve is problematic on these cars.

I have a 2017 Premier and had the sticking EGR at 44Kmiles. I pulled the connector, replaced the fuse it blew and drove it till I got it home and pulled and cleaned the EGR Valve so back in action.

correction: to get the carb warranty benefit it has to be currently registered in a carb state. The EGR problem shorts to ground, but now that i read another comment i wonder if cleaning it .. well it sticing, is causing the short to ground.. great now i have work to do. lol

So I know you literally just got done saying that you wanted a car that you don't have to work on it as simply reliable and just does everything that it's supposed to do without any issues. I realize that you are a car mechanic and you get lots of vehicles work on them get them up and running or soup them up so they make crazy horsepower. I would really like to see you take at Chevy Volt and make it more aerodynamic more efficient and maybe get into the hypermiling scene a bit. Merely a suggestion. Your videos are always very thorough and well explained. Even with the jokes stuff is always clear and easy to understand. As a person that has limited experience, only bolt on modifications, I appreciate that greatly. Great video as usual keep em coming!

newer technology, Gen1 didn't have an EGR, ALL 3 of mine now have EGR issues, 2 2017s with 200k and a 2019 with 170k. GM 12691147 EGRs have been on backorder since last year. I'm keeping an eye out for 2019s to replace my kids' 2017s

Tire suggestion...get a set while you still can, I purchased an extra set: Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 2. Low rolling resistance, extremely quiet. TireRack's review summary: "What We Liked: Category-leading comfort and responsive feel on the road. What We'd Improve: Relax the on-center steering feel slightly and a bump in winter traction. Conclusion: A luxurious yet sporty tire with impressive traction."

Another pro tip (having owned a 2018) if you find certain phones don't work with the USB port try getting a dumb USB 2.00 mini hub and plug that into the volt and the phone into the hub. I think it has to do with how some phones negotiate higher charging rates that trips up the Volt. We used a cheap hub the entire time we had the car and it worked with multiple generations of Pixel and Samsung phones.

Great car. I'm sure you're going to love it just like the old one. GM just lowered the price of 2023 Bolt LT1 to $26,000, so I hope more and more people go the electrification route now. Unfortunately, Chevrolet dealers are awful, especially in this market, so it may turn off a lot of people to have to deal with the gouging and the fact that a lot don't have well trained technicians.

Yes that's so true. I just asked a dealer about the Bolt EUV reduced pricing and he said to ignore what GM says as due to demand the prices GM has states are totally incorrect and they will be charging much higher than even current MSRP for all new EVs. He laughed and said no Independent dealer will allow the pricing GM has stated to come to forition.

I'm in my 4th year of my Gen 2 and I regularly get 70 miles of range. It took a while by I now nail the basic hypermiling style of driving. I love it. So far no major issues at all.

@@ilovemyevo556 if I want to max out my efficiency in my Volt I - start the car while plugged in, accelerate gently, drive in L, coast down hills, pull foot off L whenever you see traffic slowing or stopped & maximize your rolling stop. Minimize stops, momentum is your friend. Use the regen paddle as much as possible. Don’t speed. Smooth driving.

I bought a Honda Clarity plug-in about 3 months ago. I love it. I get about 40 miles per charge and about 320 miles per fillup. I think the Clarity is bigger and no hump in the middle.

It’s interesting that both the Volt and Clarity had a 40 mile range and the only one plug-in hybrid in production has a 40 range, if you can get a RAV4.

@@batymahn My Pacifica plug in minivan goes around 35 miles on EV if I stay off the highway. After that it gets around 30 MPG on gas. I love it but I did get the Mopar warranty just in case. I am also doing more maintenance than I have to. Sometimes I think that cars famous for having issues are that way because they attract uncaring owners.

@@batymahn The batteries like it cool but not cold. In theory you should get more miles when 65 f vs 85 f. I get about the same either way.

I got my 2017 Premiere in 2019 and it has been a fantastic car. Since then, our kids have picked up two first-gens. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

These are still the most interesting hybrid to me. I just found them way nicer looking with so much more room than the competition. They just seem to be a great blend of style, decent power, and practicality, and best of all: not a crossover.

@@nicholasrubio1660 Yes, it is in my opinion. It’s been a very quick, smooth ride especially with all that torque off the line! I love the color ( bluish green color) and the style in my opinion is much better than the Honda Clarity’s. Far sportier in my opinion. If you drive with family a lot, the Clarity is a much better car and more comfortable and spacious. For me, I am driving alone most of the time to and from work, doing errands, etc. So, depends on your priorities. It’s better than Gen 1 Volt though. I even get up to 65 miles on a charge on occasion and it’s 4 years old!

Good for you! Great video. Will see how the Bolt will do! The big change for the 2023 Chevy Bolt is a $5900 price drop versus the 2022 model-which brings its MSRP down by whopping $10,900 from the 2021 model for essentially the same car. This massive price cut Chevy is intended to keep the Bolt’s cost competitive now that the company has produced enough electric vehicles that it has lost the $7500 federal tax credit could be applied to its EVs.

We've had both, gen 1 was totalled and we bought a Bolt. A couple weeks before the crash my wife was saying how the kids were getting too big to fit in the back the the Volt. The Bolt has no issues with space in the back for he kids. It's so much faster than the Bolt, and it works for us as a commuter car. We don't take it on long trips that require a charge so the slow DC charge time isn't an issue.

I had a 18 premier on lease and liked it so much, I bought a 19 premier and put it in storage for about twom years.. The 19 has a 220.volt charge that’s twice as fast, power seat for the driver and 25 presets for the radio. It’s an awesome car, black on black with all of the protective mats, Ziebart rust proofing, the rear view meer

These are great cars! I bought mine from CarMax a couple months back and I've been really pleased with it! I wanted to say one thing though, the California emissions package allows you to get a 10 year/150k voltec warranty instead of the standard 7 year/100k warranty if you register the car in a CARB compliant state. That's worth it to a lot of people. Another thing you said is that the 12 volt batteries last forever in these things but that's not true either. They're known to fail after 5ish years and will cause all sorts of strange issues if their voltage gets too low. Lots of people recommend replacing them if they're original just to avoid weird glitches that the failing 12 Volt can cause. Otherwise this is a great review! this is the best point/comment. i've got one of each, just bought a non em. now i have to pop the hood and compare the egrs. btw my carb model egr went bad with the known short to ground issue so i had to unplug it to drive it.

The charger can take 240 as well. Same charger in Europe just with a different plug. So you can write a dryer cord to a 110 female plug and then plug your 110chsrger into a 240 dryer outlet.

To add homelink you can get an overhead console from a 18-20 traverse without sunroof. They are the same size as the Volt and include the homelink components.

yea the ecu adjusts fine. i think one of the reaons they did that is because they thought gas would sit longer in the tank.

My 2014 Volt has 105,000 trouble free miles on it. Everything works. Original brakes. Tires lasted 75,000 miles on it. 174 lifetime mpg. It is a sleeper 0-50. It gets about 45-50 miles of EV range in the summer, which is about 20% more than it is rated for.

I have a '17 Volt myself. I like the car, does exactly what I expected. The only thing I'll say is the '17's and early '18's have an issue with the BECM. Usually occurs, from what I can tell at the mileage yours is at. Mines at the dealer now getting it replaced. Parts are not readily available, took a month to get mine.

I am now waiting over a month for a Egr valve. Known issue and some reddit forums say they are discontinued. The dealer bypassed it so I could drive. Not sure what I will do when emissions are needed in February.

You are living a parallel car life to me. From Aztek, Camaro to the Volts I had them all as well. I leased a 16' 2nd gen site unseen when they came out I called it my free car turned lease back in with the dealer gas still in the tank. I got 70 miles of range in summer 60's in the northeast winters.

My cousin drove her Tesla Model X from California to here in Chicago in 2018. The most impressive thing for me behind the acceleration was the regenerative braking. I loved one pedal driving after I got used to keeping my foot on the accelerator through the corners. You can't coast through the corners. You let off the accelerator, you stop. Replace your truck with a new EV truck.

I just bought a white 2017 premier volt for $28k with 21,000 miles on it. The previous owner was a little old lady. It is in mint shape. I love it! I was spending $120 a week driving my sierra around. Now that truck will only get used when i haul the boat to fishing. I can't believe that it only costs me $1.25 to charge up and drive to work and back 33 miles in total.

I love my 2018 Volt that looks just like yours. As others have mentioned here, there are a few issues like BECM (especially on 17’s) and don’t take the 12 volt battery health for granted. When they go bad, it’s a real pain, and yours might be close to the end of its life cycle. All in all, I’ve had two Tesla Model 3’s and would actually recommend my Volt over them for most drivers. An ICE engine just works better for me as a backup plan than long stops at superchargers did. Have fun with you ride!

I bought a fully loaded 2012 model Chevy Volt right off the showroom floor in September 2011. It's 12 years old now, with about 120k miles on it. Still works beautifully. I love it.

The EGRs are on all of them, and it is a common point of failure (well the controller on top), check to see if the BECM has been replaced, if it has you are good to go, if not cross your fingers. Also go ahead and replace the 12 volt, it is at it's end of life and will cause bonkers issues as it dies. I have both a '17 volt and bolt, love them both to death. BTW that EVSE/charger can do 220 with the correct plug on the end. ahh forgot about the shift to park, yea, it is an undersized switch, they are covered under voltec warranty, basically they add an new pigtail before the switch.

Back in the day I did a test drive in a first gen Opel Ampera. Really nice car but back then still a bit pricey for me. So i bought a Toyota hybrid. Both were tech demonstrators for GM and Toyota respectively so both companies built both cars very well. Better then their averidge offerings Resulting in very reliable used cars. I'd buy this Volt any day.

I have a 2013 volt over 230k miles on original pads and rotors. Maintenance has been great. Last summer I spent 3k on tune up, battery & cables, oil pan gasket and a charging issue repair. Other than that it’s only been yearly oil changes. On tires I’m averaging 90k miles per set.

It’s technological, it’s efficient, and just plain fun. Even the base version has plenty of futuristic features like the keyless push-button start and auto-unlock. Then the sport mode is thrilling for someone who’s only driven boring gas-powered sedans or lumbering SUVs. Simply a beautiful experience.

FYI depending on which charger you have it can also work on a 220v & fully charge in 8 hours. I made a 3 foot adapter with a female 110v socket on 1 end to plug the the factory charger & 220v male on the other end to plug in the wall socket & it worked like a charm

So you essentially have a NEMA 5-15 female(recept) on one end and a 3 or 4 prong 220v plug on the other. question is.. where the neutral (white) normally goes to the 5-15 you wired one leg (110v L2) from the 220v connection, and the other leg (110v L1) from the 220v you wired to the hot (black)? Is your source for the 220v a 3 or 4 prong 220v ? What is wired to the 5-15 ground? 220v sourced neutral or ground? 3 prong is L1,L2,neutral and 4 prong is L1,L2,N,Ground

@@1webbie I had a Versicharge. It lasted the warranty period then promptly died. Siemens didn’t seem surprised. Wish I had stayed away from that charger. Now I’m going to use the charge cable that came with the ‘16 for 220v.

I have owned the exact same model and year for 3 years. The Volt auto regen breaks if you lighty step on the break. You really do not need to use the peddle unless you want an aggressive slow down or you are going down hill and do not want to ride the break peddle. I have the premier 2017 and spent $20k with 28K miles, I got lucky. There is a TSB for the shifter, get it done before it goes out of warranty, which is 8yr and 100K miles. I have $70k now with no issues.

The regen on the 2019 Volt is much stronger than the 2017. It’s kinda like the Bolt. You’re missing two fun options though. The lighted charge port and ambient floor lighting you can install yourself as GM OEM options. Great car.

My husband has the 2017 Volt and drives it 45 minutes each way for work. Has just over 100,000 miles on it and it’s doing fantastic. Still has the original brakes; mechanic who replaced the tires a few months ago remarked how great they still looked. Our home’s average electric bill is $85, which includes charging the car at night. (We have a 1000 sq ft home in southern Kentucky USA.) My husband’s employer provides free charging. He can get to and from work using zero gas. We’re hoping the car lasts for five more years, until retirement.

I was in the same place as others and it was so hard to get a gen2 volt. As I looked around I found the Honda Clarity which is bigger and about the same amount of miles on electricity only and ended up with one of those instead. They sat on the lot for a long time due to low gas prices at the time but are amazing cars too and super comfy.

I'm getting 45 miles of EV range on a Voltec based 2019 Cadillac CT6 2.0E plug-in. But I have seen middle 50's. I believe the Gen 2 Volt is seeing +60 miles which is very good! How many usable kw is the Clarity and what has been the range?

I also have a 2017 Volt Premiere. I bought it 11 months ago with 49k on the clock for $21k. One month later I had to replace the EGR valve. It was a hassle getting the dealer to cover it under warranty but they finally did. Otherwise no problems and I really enjoy it. I can commute to and from work in electric mode and pretty much do all the normal day-to-day stuff in electric mode.

Really not a Chevy fan here but that looks like a GREAT CAR. I'm in the market for an EV (an IONIQ 5 on order) and have to say these have some advantages over full EVs such as the ability to add gas and be on your way during a road trip. Congrats JR sounds like you got a great deal!

Except that EVs now can charge at almost the same speed then the time it takes to fill up gas in a ICE car and the infrastructure is getting very solid to charge the car across the country. I think that ICE (and hybrid in the same way) car's last few advantages are disappearing fast.

Bought a 2018 Volt LS . only had 17,400 miles on it. Of which only 4200 were electric. Strange I thought. Guess someone bought it just for the rebates. Still was getting 52 miles per gallon. Now after 1 year , the lifetime is up to 74 mpg, since most of the miles I put on it are electric. I drive 35 miles to work each way, but I can charge at work on 220 , plus I installed a charger at home . Love this car. GM really screwed the pooch on this car , should of used this system in way more models. Summer time in STL I cant get up to 68 miles per charge , winter like now around 48. Great car.

The good thing about the California emissions rule is that this Volt now has a 150K/10 yr warranty on the Voltec system. I would register it in a CARB state so you can continue to have the Voltec warranty. Its lowkey one of the best extended warranty programs, have had a few very expensive repairs done completely free at the dealer.

I've been looking at these to replace my A3 TDI. Sourcing parts in the future is a real concern for me about this car. There wasn't a ton of them made and I doubt GM will be suppling parts for all that long. Other than that it seems like a good option for what I'm looking for. I sold GM cars for over 30 Years . Every once in a while they come out with a vehicle that for what ever reason they don't try to sell. It could be a change of Management or it just cost to much to build. The Volt was one of those cars. Spent a ton of money on development / you never saw a commercial for one, people didn't even know that GM made them half the time. It was like they tried not to sell them and then was shocked when they didn't sell. The Volt in todays world would of been the perfect car. One more generation of it the battery range would of improved and then you would of had a Electric car that range would of never been a factor. They blew it on this one big time

I have a 2017 Volt LT. Love the car. I get high 60s usually for electric range and sometimes it will show 70. With regen, I get over 70 miles electric per charge. It gets 60 in the cold weather. Cheers!! 😎

I recently looked at buying a very nice 2018 Lt model. Before making a decision, I did my research and found some concerning issues, chiefly, the failure of the battery energy control module (becm). Apparently, if this module fails, the car is inoperable and this can happen while underway. I couldn’t find out how common this was, but it apparently isn’t rare. The replacement is over $2000, if and when you can get a replacement. This is something that should initiate a recall, but GM has washed its hands of the car and may, or may not, pay for the replacement. I can’t afford a car with that sort of liability, though I really like the car. I passed on the purchase, though it could’ve been a perfect car for me.

Reliability issues was why I went with a used 1st gen instead of stretching for a used 2nd gen. EGR valve & shift to park being the 2 big ones. I love my first gen, will keep it for as long as possible.

My wife had the shift to park issue. Dealer tried to get $500 for the repair, but I found the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) and GM covers it under the Voltec warranty.

Market dictated that they stop production. Battery technology had improved so much that 200+ miles on a single charge was easily done. The Volt was a transition car. So it had the cost/weight of a battery pack along with the cost/weight of combustion engine. In essence, the thing that people love about the Volt, two power trains, is the very thing that led to its demise.

There was no reason they could not have evolved the Volt dropping the the hybrid gas portion of the driveline and used newer (and newer) battery tech. Even if the sales weren't chart toppers, it was a hell of a Halo car for GM on many fronts. Had they evolved it, they would be sitting on the most direct answer to the Tesla Model 3 right now... Just GM going back to their old wasteful ways of doing business. :-/ Meh.

an engineering perspective, you still have the maintenance of a gas engine along with it's potential failures on top of the electric power train. My wife has driven 3 Volts and she loves them in the current economic environment she actually bought her last lease because though most electric cars would meet her commuting needs, she is not willing to wait for those charging delays. As battery technology improves it will become less. But let's face it, the Volt was never a barn burner in sales. And the only reason people are giving it a 2nd look today is because of the current fuel shock. We love the Volt, but our next vehicle will be 100% battery driven.

I have the same vehicle and bought it brand new in 2017. It is really the best daily driver. I drive minimum 184km a day and charge at work and home. I have 260000km and 195000 is all electric. Lifetime fuel economy is 1.8L/100km. Changed my brakes at 200000km and still had some left on them. No issues with the vehicle. As expected my range is below epa. I am getting 82km in the summer and 59km in the winter here in Ontario Canada. Enjoy your vehicle.
