Wow man what a collection. Never seen so many Marantz models in one location! I feel very privileged here in New Zealand to own an SX-1250/Sansui AU20000 etc as we got very little good quality Japanese audio back in the day due to import tariffs. There's more vintage audio in the country now then there was back in the 1970's.

One of my biggest surprises exploring the vintage world of sound is a Lafayette LA-250A. It is a tube Integrated amplifier driven by EL86 power tubes, this one was still Made in the USA. What a unique sounding integrated amp it is, it has a distinctive tube midrange bloom that is different to all the other tube receivers and amps that I own. I might start exploring Lafayette solid state receivers too!

Have you ever heard of Acculab or known as RTR? I got a pair of Acculab 440s in my basement. Paired up with a Pioneer sx750. Everything is all original. Both the speakers and the receiver is hitting almost 50 in a few years. All still rocks. There is more clarity and more bass with the Pioneer than my newer Yamaha rx v385.

The Sony V5 and V7 just have that heavy industrial look that is a turn on for me. 150 Watts Per Channel is real monster receiver cred BUT not a boot smoker. It's the LOOK of the Sony V5 or V7 that sells the power convincingly. Just like the Sansui G-9000 it would not be the most powerful receiver in my collection but the looks of it smoke my boots!

I watched this with my Marantz 2265b playing in the background. Marantz are my fave. The B versions were said to have sound improvements and a balance knob instead of the slider. The tone selector is fun when dialing in mids and highs. Don’t forget that vintage wattage ratings are more than honest. A 65 w can punch up in the eighties range!

Nice Pioneer collection you have there. However, you must be careful when you are turning-on those earlier Pioneer and many other Japanese made receivers is that you should bring the volume control all the way down before turning-on your receiver which has the power switch combined with the speaker switch as well. Failure to lower the volume can accidentally blow-out your speakers as well. Later Pioneer and other Japanese made receivers moved the power switch to a separate button from the speaker switch which eliminated this problem as well. The old Fisher receivers and amplifiers has the power switch combined with the volume switch which is also a good thing.

@@janath9118 You are very welcome my friend. This is what happens when they put the power off switch with the speaker selector switch, and if you forgot to lower your volume before turning off your receiver, and when you turn your receiver back on, and then BOOM !!! Your speakers are either DEAD or will have badly distorted sound as well. THIW's. That's why they corrected it on later models of receivers with a separate power button instead. Have a nice evening.

@@robertko5425 Sorry about the delay to reply. My friend, yes, you are exactly correct about that! If they had put the power switch together with the speaker selector switch, that terrible thing of blowing the speakers could have happened, if anybody had accidently left the volume controller at a high position. This problem could have been avoided if these manufacturers had been more sensible in designing power switches and speaker selector switches separately. Thank you very much for sharing this information! Have a nice day!

@@janath9118 You're welcome my friend, and enjoy your 247th 4th of July as well. My friends had that happen to them many, many times as well, with roasted voice coils, blown tweeters and midranges, which smelled like pork ribs on the grille on your barbeque cooker in your backyard. After 1976 they removed the power off function from the speaker selector switch, and placed a separate button for the power control instead, which itself was very helpful as well.

On some of the receiver's the "B" designation indicates (Dolby) but with the 2250’s it’s more of an upgrade as per my knowledge, and someone can let me know if I am wrong. The 2250B which Marantz introduced in 1976 or 1977, and was a very good mid-range receiver. I say mid-range because it’s rated at 50 watts per channel but I think many will attest to the fact that it is under rated and is perhaps closer to 70 watts per channel when fully restored and recapped.

the CT-F750 was the best auto-reverse ever made i got a deck like this in 1984 from a german guy, the CT-F1250 is one of the best decks ever made ,if working properly you would test it against the dragon from Nakamichi being 3 years older, it´s better in all that concerns with sound, and still works today a dragon with only less 3 years would never work all these years without being seen by a good technician and thousands of € in the repair , the pioneer ,it´s regular maintenance and no problem with 44 years old, the equalizers with plastic keys is from early 80´s the one with metal long controls for each frequency was sold between 76 and 79, everybody prefers the aluminium controls against the plastic with lights. I discover that my old tube amplifier is a dynaco. My amplification system from the 70´s or 1976 is a spec-1 and spec-2

@LennyFlorentine Жыл бұрын
Nice, I was wondering
@Dan-Black
@Dan-Black 8 ай бұрын
@@LennyFlorentine I'll add onto this comment, because it's the first one I saw that was completely correct -- the "SQ Full Logic" mode was the extra mode on that dial that the 949A added over the plain 949. I had five or six of these over the years, plus one plain 949. The 949A was definitely better; that SQ Full Logic mode sounded much better and was easily the best quadraphonic sound I heard in any of the numerous Pioneer and Sansui quads I tried over the years. It sounded as good as, or better than, any other surround sound I heard, including the '90s Dolby Pro Logic, up until I finally got a DTS receiver that actually supported digitally-encoded true separate channels for each surround channel. The SQ Full Logic on the 949A was literally decades ahead of anything else. Another great thing about those receivers is that they could drive all eight speakers at full power simultaneously, even if you switched it to stereo mode so the back speakers were getting the same signal and putting out the same power/volume as the front channels. I put a lot of large 4-ohm car speakers on them as well as large 8-ohm home speakers, and this receiver didn't care; it could drive them loud and hard all day long without overheating and burning itself up. This is a true powerhouse. Even though it's rated for "only" 40W/channel or so, that was on the old rating system, which (as I understand it) changed in the late '70s or early '80s so that output was measured at the amplifiers inside the receiver rather than actual output to the speakers, or something like that. At any rate, my "measly" 40W/channel would kick the butts of any 100 or 150W/channel "modern" receiver that dared take it on. (When I was in college, many tried, and they all failed. Several overheated driving smaller 8-ohm speakers and not putting out nearly as much volume or bass as my 949A. It never, ever lost a stereo battle.) So I used QX-949As as my main receivers for over two decades. Mine finally developed enough age-related problems (noise in the dials, some channels not working reliably because of the dials, and a couple I bought that already had non-functioning channels for one reason or another) that I replaced them with more modern equipment. But when I did so, I had to custom-build my own setup for even more power (using plate amps and car amps), because I just couldn't bear to downgrade. Let me tell ya, it takes a _lot_ to outdo these monsters! If you have on in good shape, it's a fantastic receiver.

Do you know Todd Emslie, in Sydney Australia? I'm sure he would like a list of all the tuners, since he is an expert at TV and FM DX reception. Some of those older rigs are well-known and loved.

Having dual turntables? You mean DJ’s? Or just an audiophile who loves the different sound of 2 turntables!
@mcgravy60
@mcgravy60 Жыл бұрын
Back in the '60s, a lot of audiophiles had systems with two turntables. One was a "good'" manual (Thorens, AR, etc.) for critical listening. The second usually was a changer (Dual, Gerrard, Elac-Miracord) for casual listening or when hosting parties.

Did you buy it or did you pull it in on consignment? IOW did you shell out the cash to the owner of the collection?

Lenny,there isn't a Definitive answer for the B. Because the B Means different things on different models such as pre amp has a but Better Build in Some, the Tuning gang is a 3 Gang vs 4 Gang on the B , some Plastic Parts on the non B vs Metal parts in the B and they are all different things on the Different Series, all in All you can say A Smidge better Build for the B as usually it is the last Version of the same Model and could have a Different Engineering Manager or Team towards the End of the Production Run. Are you mixed up, because even the Marantz Krazies do not have a One Answer for all Bs! The best thing to do is Google Each example 2250 vs 2250B , probably the only way to actually Tell! By the Way Awsome Buy and Awesome Video, WOWSER

The line that Sherwood S7910 came from was their best and I have one of them as my reference vintage receiver. To me they sound as good or better than any vintage stereo I ever had including Marantz and Sansui. I have the S9910 which is their biggest and most powerful. Has a 4 speaker mode called ARS that gives a stereo surround mode (Not Quad) but fills room very evenly with music without overpowering the front MainStage. Hook it up and let me know what you think.
