Try starting in 2nd or even 3rd gear if you're not getting traction in snow or mud. Also slip the clutch and don't floor it... If none of that works - if you can go backwards, do it. It turns your rwd car into fwd and can get you enough momentum to get over a little hump... or it'll get you stuck even further from the road, be careful. Definitely don't spin your tires like that - moving or not. You're only making things worse doing that. Feather that throttle if you don't have traction.

Still a beautiful car. Ian Callum, from Dumfries in Scotland, was asked to design it when he was working at TWR. Later became head of design at Aston. His Vanquish is still one of the most stunning designs. The straight six engine is a Jaguar block that Jaguar ended up not using themselves. Other than that you couldn't go to a Jaguar dealer to have it serviced. Apparently the sub-frame for the rear is from the replacement XJS but nothing else. Nothing really was handed over from Jaguar. It's an Aston. Yes, lots of part-bin sharing. But then so does Audi / VW / Seat / Porsche / Skoda share so many parts and platforms! Yet nobody seems to criticise VAG for that? Why? Looking at your DB7 reminds us just how beautiful it is. I've been lucky enough to try a couple of the V12 models, and I'd love to compare with the supercharged six.

Since I love old Jags, I can certainly approve of this purchase. I have that 3.2 litre AJ16 engine in my 96 XJ6. These engines never go wrong with regular maintenance. The XJR6 (the best Jag XJ ever) actually had the 4.0 version of this engine with a Eton supercharger. What I never understood was why Aston Martin decided to take the 3.2 litre as the basis for their modifications when the characteristics of the 4.0 are superior, not to mention that it it would have been even more powerful with Aston Martin's fettling over it. Both the 3.2 and 4.0 were introduced at the same time so there was literally no reason not to use it in the DB7. Also the interior of the DB7 is a disaster. The XK8 has one of the most beautiful interiors I have ever seen in a car. XK8s are relatively cheap, look better, are easier to maintain and buy bits for so they kind of put the DB7 to shame apart from the heritage of the AM brand and the fact that only the DB7 came with a manual transmission.

Same here! i have the 2001 Jaguar XJR i love it! (X308 with the AJ27 4.0L engine with the Eaton M112 supercharger and Mercedes 5G Transmission [722.6]) Something is always breaking loll (currently working on the crank pulley) but everything is repairable if you can turn wrenches and tighten bolts loll

Gurpreet Hira I have the 2001 XJR too at the moment. Mine has the R1 performance package with the enormous Brembo brakes. It’s fantastically fast but I’m selling it. Ultimately I want the “relative” simplicity and raw grunt of the XJR6. Hopefully I will get one some day.
@GurpreetHira6 жыл бұрын
@@Biggles wowzers! R1 package, i have yet to see one in person! How did you find that? Loll ive seen about 3 XJRs since ive had mine (4 or so years) but a ton of xj8 loll. You prefer a xj6 due to simplicity or ?
@Biggles6 жыл бұрын
@@GurpreetHira Yeah, the handling on the R1 XJR is really good, you can really lean on it in corners (at least in XJ terms). The brakes are really fierce as well. More than enough to stop the car. I just find the AJ16 engine more appealing in many ways. The 4.0 straight six is a masterpiece for Jag in my opinion, and with the supercharger added to, it is just lovely old school muscle. The XJR6 also has the really robust GM transmission and there is far less need to worry about timing chain issues with the straight six also. That and also there are relatively few electrical issues when compared to the X308. Finally I just love the big red letters on the engine saying XJR6 SUPERCHARGED! I have real soft spot for the XJR6 as you might tell.

To get unstuck, you slip the clutch a slight bit and BARELY CREEP FORWARD. Spinning tires is your enemy. There were a couple times that you had a tiny bit of forward momentum, and thats all you need to get out. COOL CAR!

Way off the subject but my neighbor has a Jaguar (jag you are) XJF. What a beautiful car (black & large). Yes, I too love Jags! I live close to Bergeron Engineering which built a number of XJ6's in the 70's with LT-1's. A number of them made it to the San Diego area & 1 into the hands of a friend of mine. He could be your arch rival with his corral of nicely running performance cars. 1968 L-88, 56 Chevy sedan with 427, 56 Nomad with 427, 1959 El Camino 396, 32 deuce coupe with a true 427 Cobra motor (SO FAST), late 50's 4wd Chevy panel delivery, 2 Camaros (one on front of Hot Rod, one on front of Car Craft). & more. I guess framing raquetball courts in Cali & Hawaii paid pretty well back then huh Randy?

I would love to have that car. An XJR supercharged I6 with a manual, hell yes! That it's a Jaguar chassis is great in that you can get parts for it and they're probably cheaper then aston parts. You can replace the stereo, it's so basic too! That Jag engine was a great engine, mated to a manual would be amazing. That car is in great shape, all the worst parts, especially interior are in good shape making it worth putting work into it. It sounds great too!
@jongodsell886 жыл бұрын
As for the battery not holding its charge another reason apart from those you mention could be that the boot light or other interior light is not going out when the lid is closed - this happened to me in my XJ-S this summer. As for your antics in a light covering of the white stuff, less said about that the better, though you might have faired better if you had used just enough throttle to get the wheels moving.
