Cool project, fingers crossed its an easy enough repair. Job 1 should be to straighten the mec badge on the engine cover 😂
@yeety12082 жыл бұрын
Small correction: this engine is actually a 6.2L (6208cc) V8. The 6.3 badge is a tribute to Merc's first ever V8

I’m not a merc fan, but I honestly can’t wait for the updates and rebuild on this! Hope it doesn’t give you much of a headache, good luck dude
@l96nw492 жыл бұрын
these are actually a 6.2(6208cc i think) the 63 bit is apparently a heritage thing to the Mercedes 300 which was a 6.3, also Germany apparently make them round up so it being a 6208cc makes it “6.3”

I remember this on Top Gear, with the 6.2/6.3 noted. I don't think Germany say anying over 6200 becomes 6.3. What did they call the 1043 VW engine in the '80s?
@pillowshooter2 жыл бұрын
100%, the 6.3 branding is just a heritage thing. The rounding up thing is just a myth. I have a 5514cc engine; it's a 5.5 per Mercedes.

I would suggest that you first remove the oil and see what it looks like, along with boroscoping the spark plug holes and cylinder bores, then check the air intakes to see how far the water got. Could the engine by hydrolocked, rather than seized?
@cartradediary61312 жыл бұрын
That's pretty much standard spec on these, the sunroof is the only extra. You can get some extra like adaptive cruise, ventilated seats, designo interior and so. the m156 engine can be a very nasty piece of work but they are very accessible to get used engines for peanuts of salvage cars, lots of them end up in salvage yards

Hmm, well the damage depends on how it was flooded. If it was submerged when running then probable engine damage plus screwed electrics, If it just sucked in water without being submerged then probable engine damage but if not running and submerged then you'll have bundles of fun figuring out how many of the control modules are screwed. So um yea, have fun with that 🤞

if it's hydrolocked, that's new valves and con rods. guess the hardest part would be getting to them and the Merc prices. if it's not hydrolocked it's still be a new wiring look and anything electrical under the bonnet and potentially the dash area. I'm going for £8,500 for the car.

I'm sure you could rebuild it. They are a brilliant engine, but I'm more of a fan of the older 5.5 amg lump (bit biased as I own a Mercedes with the 5.5 v8.) I think Mercedes make one of the best sounding V8's, and we're streaks ahead in terms of N/A performance.
