I Bought the Lib Tech Golden Orca

After much debate, obsessing, and loosing sleep I could take it anymore...I HAD TO HAVE THE LIB TECH GOLDEN ORCA!!! The golden orca is by far the sickest looking snowboard I have ever seen in my life, and after all my life for the regular orca I got last year. I had to have the golden orca as well. The golden orca has a slightly longer tail than the original orca, to allow it to ride switch easier, and offer more stability on drops. It’s still designed to float through powder, but also perform better as an all mountain snowboard and have a more freestyle focus than the original. The golden orca still has the c2 profile, but has lib techs firepower construction so it will be a lighter more powerful blend of wood. I cannot wait to shred this thing and do a full review. Hi, question. Do you think the Apex Orca is better to get? I'm worried the carbon is going to make you feel more chatter?

It depends on the terrain you’re going to be riding with it for sure. I’ve ridden both and the golden definitely dampens the ride more. For pure powder laps or super slushy/soft snow I think the apex is perfect but with variable conditions you mainly get at resorts the golden hasn’t ever given me much chatter. Even in the backbowls when I was going through crusty/frozen powder it plowed through it like a machine

I don’t have An orca but a warpig and looking at the golden orca to add to the quiver. Oh i also have a k2 carve air, so yeah like those shapes

Yea buddy that’s what I’m talking about. I’m a big fan of the shape. I actually sold off my deep thinker and Horrorscope, and will solely be on the orca and golden orca this season because it just works for me really well. I’m in debate if it’s too early season yet, but we are doing a short budget trip to Colorado and I may finally get to test the golden out this weekend! After holding onto it all this time. I’m in debate if I’m gonna risk taking it out out not. I’ve heard really good things about the warpig!

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I haven’t ridden a orca but I’m I suspect they are similar. Orca a bit more powder and the warpig a bit more groomer but I think the differences are small. I went in over knee deep pow with the warpig and floated like a butterfly. And the K2 carve air is one of those hidden gems. (I think it the predecessor of the simple pleasures and the party platter). It is a carve board with a fun shape , short wide & a camber that boosts side hits.

@@WAco-se9wf I’ll have to look up the K2. That one I’m not as familiar with but I have heard of the party platter! But that sounds super sick! I’ll check it out! I think you’d like the orca, regular or golden. The golden is supposed to be a better all mtn board but honestly I’ve ridden my regular orca in super deep powder in whistler as well as just the groomers we have here on the east coast and it’s been a blast across the board , I have yet to find an area it’s not a good time on, which is what has me so excited to try my golden out. I’ll have to let you know if I take it this weekend!

Man I love it! I have an update/actual review video of it in the works. I haven’t tested it on powder but on groomers it’s an absolute blast. Great edge hold, insanely responsive, rides switch just like true twin, and it’s just a really stable ride. It gives you a lot of confidence to just charge into wherever you’re going headfirst. I can’t wait to get it in deeper snow later this winter. But very impressed and happy with it so far

Got the 157 Golden Orca from Libtech directly, I guess they’re only a few hrs away from lol. I just saw the Apex Orca, which I’ll prb pick up next season too lol

That’s awesome! I almost ordered one from lib tech originally and by the time I finally was going to order it they were out of stock! I’m hoping to test out an Apex next season just to see how it compares. I joke with my buddies all the time and say I’m going to have all 4 orca variations. I’m making my own orca Pod 🤣

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes Hah, 2 of my friends got the 21 Orca so I told them I had to join their Orca pod. After trying out their boards, Im now wondering how the 153 GOrca woulda rode. I’m about 5’9.5 so was debating, but the 157 was the only available so went with it lol. It arrived within 2 days of the order. Rode great in pow, but still trying to get used to it coming from a camber board for groomers.

@@david92082I’ve only ridden camber a few times. I actually prefer the profile of the orcas even on groomers. I dk why it’s just always felt really easy to ride/natural to me

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes actually went with the Golden Orca mainly for better switch riding, not sure if going with the longer board would help too much with the float. I think my friends Orca was a 147 and it was super ez and playful to ride. Def wanting to try the 153 size for the Golden now 😅

It seems Kevin from snowboard pro camps review wasnt actually that favourable and he also didnt end up buying one , I guess as he already has a 153 and a 159 of the OG orcas

Ya it seemed like he liked it but still Preferred the OG orca. He also said he was riding one that was a bit smaller than what he would’ve gone with too. He still hit some crazy stuff in that video. Him wiping out down that one section was wild. I’m super pumped to ride it. It’s definitely looking like I may have to wait till next season though 😭

I’d go 153😎 it should be the perfect size to still have a ton of maneuverability but still big enough for excellent float in pow!

They say the golden orca isn’t a pow board as much as the orca. It’s really an all mountain board. I’m gonna get one and rip the whole resort this season. I don’t see a lot of pow in the northeast so I’m not gonna get a regular orca but the golden should do good on hard pack and carves on groomers with the magna traction. Thoughts? Unfortunately I never got to ride my golden orca before the season ended but from everything I’ve seen and read about it they say about the same thing. That it works great as a all mountain board but can still handle Pow but more all mountain with the slightly longer tail. Which I thought the regular orca handled everything well and I pretty much used it as my daily ripper all season so I can’t wait to see how the golden performs. I plan on using the orca as my daily and the golden for trips. The magna traction on ice is definitely a game changer and that’s why I rode my orca so much this year. I’m on the east coast as well

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes yes I saw the curated head to head and that’s why I wanna get the golden. It rips carves and is really good all over the mountain. I dont think Kevin from snowboard pro camp enjoyed it as much cuz he was in pow it’s not really advertised as a good pow board but it gets the job done better than most all mountain boards in pow. Kevin said it would be a great board on groomers and a rider that just wants to ride the mountain and rip carves maybe a side hit here and there. I don’t ride park so I’m stoked for this board. I rode a libtech last year and the magna traction is awesome

HOLY SMOKES😱😱😱😱. Ok ok I hadn’t seen the nitro beast till now and dear lord it is beautiful! For my personal taste the golden orca still takes the cake for me, but i will say the nitro beast definitely is a very close second. That’s one of the coolest graphics I’ve ever seen. I’d love to see it in person! It’s wicked!

I think the orca takes it for me because it has graphics on the top sheet and the base. The nitro is super sick on top but the base isn’t as cool in my opinion 😛
