Fun fact- the boxes each day comes in are actually set pieces- for example day one is Santa’s slay to put on top of the box and Day two is the fireplace on the ground floor.

My opinion on woobles was that it was perfect for getting me started and made learning easier for me personally than the other tutorials I tried. It was easier to focus and now im onto other patterns because of that start!
@CodexPotter6 сағат бұрын
Same here. People forget you're paying for the tutorials and even sometimes limited one on one help. I think it's overpriced but not drastically. A half hour at my yarn shop to learn is $30. I'm a knitter but this was the first crochet I'd really done and I feel like I really learned enough to do some other simple projects. The yarn was good for learning, I could see my stitches clearly to identify when I made a mistake and I didn't accidentally split the yarn. Could you start with a cheap hook, ball of yarn, and a tutorial online and spend much less? Of course. But if I tried with my knitting yarn I absolutely would have gotten frustrated making the magic loop before I could even truly begin. I had tried and given up a few times, deciding to stick with knitting, but now I can and do add crochet accents to my knitting projects and I've done a couple more amigarumi since.

I disagree with the comments that say, “it’s great for beginners” but reject it being worthwhile for those who know how already. These are just fun in general. The patterns are darling. You can continue making things with cheaper yarn later on. I’ve been making them mini. I get it that it’s not everyone’s jam. For me, an advanced crocheter, these have been so fun. I love how easy the yarn is to work with. It’s basically just a stress free, semi simple activity. The patterns are so detailed and guaranteed to be accurate every time.

I learned the 12 day calendars are for the 12 days of Christmas which starts on Christmas and ends on January 5th also known as twelfth night. The 12 days celebrate the nativity. But I do imagine businesses still opt for the 12 vs the 24 for the reason you stated lol
@erinhthorn12 сағат бұрын
The 12 days or 13 nights are not from Christian belief. It originated from Germanic belief. The 12 days start at midwinter (before a calendar change also day of birth of Jesus) and end on 2.1. or if you start on 24/25.12 end on 6.1.. These are the „Rauhnächte“ (roughly translated to „rough nights“) when you don’t notice that the days get longer right away. The Wilde Jagd (wild hunt) comes: Odin or Wotan rides with his mates and his wife (Frigg, Frigga, Hulda or Holle) to check your house. His wife on the inside, he and his mates outside. If you haven‘t cleaned everything or made sure everything is ready for winter, they will punish you for it. (A wee bit like the naughty or nice list). To prevent bad luck and wish for a good new year you have a lot of people around you, eat a lot and have a good time. But: whatever works for one to celebrate their belief. Beliefs change over time a lot and that is fine.

It is pretty cute! The design and the fact you can use it as a playset after too is very thoughtful! It's true that if you already know how to make em the price is nuts, but if you are a beginner the tutorials and such are nice. It seems like a decent value.

I’ve crocheted for over 40 yrs, and yes for a beginner your doing fantastic, just wait until your making Double Crochet, treble crochet, half double crochet, and front post or back posts stitches then it really becomes fun, once you learn you will never forget because you look at what you have made and feel the joy of accomplishments, you will get there, keep practicing that single crochet, and keep trying to read your patterns once your able to read them more things become available to you, from making your friend that’s having a baby a hand made blanket and booties and little hats, to making your MIL a beautiful afghan. It’s very addictive and you always look for your next project, my largest problem was I crochet when I got up did my chores for the day, when I was done with that I was back to crocheting, and now I have no feeling in my hands, and major carpal tunnel syndrome. And now I can’t feel a dang hook in my hands. lol it’s crazy, so do t go down that road I went down give your hands the rest they need. Pay attention to any pain you start to feel. And stop and let your wrists rest. Hope this helps and again your doing fantastic, and yes maybe once a month do another critter. lol tfs and many blessings in the new yr. ❤😊

For anyone starting on the crochet journey, tension is going to be the BIGGEST pain in the butt to master so try not to get discouraged! You can find tension rings now all over the place to help! Woobles is how I started to crochet, they were some of the best starting kit I've seen tbh. Sure they're more expensive than buying all the parts individually but as someone who never croched before and had nothing to start with getting a kit that included the yarn, the stuffing, the eyes and the hook was wonderful. And if I happened to hate it I wasn't stuck with loads of yarn and other materials I wouldn't use. Their videos are also seriously helpful. I still go to their youtube channel if I forget how to do a stitch cause they show it to you step by step. Only thing I didn't like is how they taught the magic circle, there are easier way to do it, at least for me.

Hi Chloe, I think I know why some calendars are twelve days. There are 12 days of Christmas, and the price of the calendars reflect that, they are gifts for Christmas to open over the twelve days. I do this in gift form with numbers on them and in Christmas bags. The main gift is number 1 then the following 11 all go with the main gift to make a project. Sometimes I include goodies to eat while doing the project. So, keeping that in mind, they are probably priced to give as a gift for over the next period and not an Advent calendar as such.

On the embroidery I believe they have you do it that way because it’s more beginner friendly I’ve been crocheting for a few years and when I was learning I would embroider after stuffing because it helped me learn the placement and where things should be embroidered but now that I’m more experienced I’ve transitioned to embroidering before stuffing.

This is a little hack I have for you. I have lost majority of my good yarn needles and the other ones I have have a small eye hole. What I do to thread it is I use nymo thread meant for beading to thread it. For those who have no clue what nymo is, it's a type of nylon thread that instead of being extruded as a single filament of a given thickness (like 1mm thick fishing wire is just a 1mm thick piece of nylon basically), it's made up of much thinner threads and woven (I guess?) like a traditional sewing thread. This makes the thread much more bendy compared to fishing wire yet still it keeps some of the strength and doesn't feel flimsy like normal sewing thread. So I basically cut a little piece (I got a giant roll for beading) fold it in half, thread it through starting from the eyelet I just made and use that as a needle threader. They make specific needle threaders for yarn as the classic ones break easily because duh? Thread is much more delicate than yarn. But I think they might not work for all needles. And this is a pretty cheap alternative.

I haven’t got to my 2024 calendar yet but I did complete the 2023 one last year. In my opinion it had only a couple of large projects and some little ones. They stretched it by putting the crochet hook for all of the projects in one day, then the stuffing in another, then a tin, then some pins…. I like this one better. You can start from day one and not have to wait for the different components so you can complete a project. Also I have learned from past projects (knit and crochet) always reroll your yarn. Then you can spot things like those knots and prevent future tangles. I learned that lesson the hard way…. Just got my adventure book - can’t wait to start!

for ease of getting any thread on a needle wax it. the wax keeps it from fraying. you can also just wet the end of what ever you are trying the thread the needle with in a pinch but it doesn't keep the threads together as well or as long as waxing it.

Woobles is how I learned to crochet after seeing you do Pierre the Penguin, and it was my starting point to getting into crochet in general! After a few projects I realized that the yarn just wasn't for me, and it turned into a process of finding the yarn that I fit with the best. The hooks for the Woobles aren't great quality and tend to grab and split yarn constantly when you try to use it for other projects. Not to mention the easy peasey yarn that they sell now is so much more expensive than actual skeins of regular yarn! It's a good point to start with, but after that everything is the same body shape with just a few different accessories thrown in for the most part.

Oh, bless your heart. To thread the yarn needle, pull out a couple inches of yarn, twist it a little and fold it over itself. Squish the fold through the eye of the needle, voila, no splaying. The result is cute, the price is absurd, and I have sooo many amigurumi supplies given to me by beginners who couldn't make it work. Please, if anybody reads this, please, if you are a beginner crocheter start with cheap cotton yarn dishcloths, I beg of you.

As someone who started with a Woobles (tho it turned out to be a knockoff) kit, I've found them really useful! I think it helps that it's a relatively short project, and the sense of accomplishment is way bigger than finishing a dishcloth

Happy Holidays to you and yours.
@dianes659013 сағат бұрын
There is a very easy way to thread your yarn. Take a piece of paper and cut a strip 3 in. long and narrower than the width of the needle eye. Place the yarn across the paper and fold the paper in half. It will sandwich the yarn. Take the two end pieces of paper and put them into the needle eye. Pull the paper thru the needle and it will pull the yarn thru as well. Happy crocheting.

And as a complete crochet noob, I don't even know the first thing about what yarn to get, let alone what project is hard or easy. My only wish is that you could buy them without the crochet hook. I only need one or two hooks, if I want 6 kits with the yarn and pattern, I don't need 6 crochet hooks. I've now done 7 full size and 3 accessories of woobles and would buy more to strengthen my amigurumi skills if I could get no hooks.

Because I have a perverse sense of humour and would like to see you struggle with something more complicated, I have ticked the "like" button and have asked all my friends to do the same. 😅 I too am left handed and for the life of me, cannot crochet as everyone who has tried to teach me has been right handed, and I simply cannot "get it" . They have ended up frustrated, angry, ended up crying at my stupidity and eventually lost the plot and thrown everything down and walked out, muttering to themselves, to the cat, to the wall, and any inanimate object that would listen about me being unteachable ! So I would like to see you do more crocheting, if only to prove it is possible.
@wintersprite12 сағат бұрын
I do some things left handed, such as writing, batting, and putting. That said, I also do some things right-handed (I’m mixed handed). Being mixed handed also has struggles when it comes to trying new things, because I don’t always know which hand I’ll be more comfortable doing something. As a kid, I tried learning crochet left-handed, from my great aunt, but couldn’t get the hang of it. As it turned out when I tried again in college, I crochet righty. It has made me realize other things that I didn’t do well at lefty (tennis, archery, etc.) and might be better at righty. I play instruments righty too, hallelujah. I think I probably do more things right-handed but definitely not all. I was just always labeled “left-handed” as a kid so my teachers thought I did everything lefty.

I do a little crochet and knitting (too many hobbies to be able to spend a lot of time on any of them and they cycle around so I might go months without doing one). Part of the struggle in learning for me was which “hand” to do them because I’m mixed handed. I do some things left handed and other things right handed. I didn’t think about that when I was a kid so my attempt at crocheting with my left hand (my writing hand) was a fail. Years later, I tried again, this time with my right hand, and I got it.

I wish that they had included more of the large ones. Also, I had to use my own hook because I prefer 3.50 mm over 4.00 mm (stitches turn out smaller) so I now have five hooks that I’ll rarely use. I too started with wobbles, i think it’s a good tool to learn the basic stitches and build confidence. Since then I have gotten a number of different kits and like the comment you and your SIL made, you can change the order of the rules and/or make your own embellishments, like not doing the arms. So if you don’t like the stuffing on the outside, especially dark yarn where the white is more noticeable. Then do the stitches before stuffing, use the same method and then stuff the ends in after you have stuffed to secure the stitches or tie knots behind the stitches and then stuff. Look at the rules more as a guideline rather than a law.

I always assumed that advent calenders that were 12 days was a nod to the 12 days of Christmas song.

Hi chloe, love your videos! Try folding the yarn over a bit and pushing the yarn where it's bent through the eye of the needle. That's the easiest way I've found!

I had the woobles one from last year and it was 24 days, not every box was it's own project so sometimes you had to wait a day or two to finish a project. Also at least in my box I found that some of the smaller projects felt like they shorted you on yarn for the project and I had to steal from other projects to finish. It only came with one crochet hook too which was pretty far into the box so if you wanted to start a project it was better if you already had a hook. However at least I did get some extra yarn from some of the main characters to 'steal" for use, plus enough to make a few extra projects. there were a lot more "small" projects and only a couple larger wooble character designs. Most of the videos did work for me for the how toos but a couple were broken or out of order, thankfully I figured out how to download the patterns. I did love how they had both left and right handed explanations.

I have been considering trying wobbles for a while now but i have been nervous to as I have tried crochet in the past and I struggled so much i gave up, this was kind of a nice intro to some of the brand it's self in the eyes of a beginner with some different projects.

You did a great job! I have a couple of these kits and I haven’t started them yet. I have crocheted some amigarumi from patterns I found and other types of videos on KZbin, and it’s fun and addicting. This calendar looks really awesome. Maybe I’ll make sure to get one next year. I would love to see you do more of them, as long as you are up for it.

Here is a tip to keep the yarn from fraying when you try to put it through the needle..... put masking tape on it. One piece on each side flatten the yarn out put the masking tape on it where it is sandwiched between the two sides then cut it into a point and thread it through and then cut the tape off. You only need a very small amount. I've been doing it for almost 42 years now. It has never failed.

Ive always been curious about woobles. I never bought one but the Minecraft one look very tempting. If its easier and cheaper to find pattern and tutorials for them i would love it but i know nothing about thos stuff

I hope they do soon!! They’ve grown exponentially with their licensing even in the last few months I’ve been following them. They’re also in Walmart now so I reckon it’s only a matter of time!

I was so bewildered when the grey yarn was for a squirrel, I was like why would a squirrel be grey?? I mean sure we can go fantastical with the animals but they haven't so far? And then and only then did I remember that in other parts of the world, including America, squirrels are in fact grey lol

I bought both advent calendars from the Woobles both 2023 and 2024. 2023 was kind of disappointing. It was basically a tree and some other accessories. The box was high quality and instead of mini boxes they were drawers. This year, 2024, they really outdid themselves. The box and the mini boxes make up a scene to display your Woobles and this year also had several full sized Woobles as well.

This is good to know thank you! I wonder what next year will be like 👀
