I know you said you weren't engine swapping it BUT there a some crazy potential Honda motorcycle engines you could put in this thing to keep it light, have a great driving experience and make wayyy more power. Off the top of my head, here are a few bikes that are somewhat plentiful with great motors: VFR800 (V4 with EFI and a six speed that revs to 13k and makes like 120hp), VFR1200 (big V4 with an optional DCT that makes like 175hp), Goldwing GL1800 (nasty flat-six with optional DCT in later years, buckets of torque, stupidly linear power delivery), CB650 (I-4 that is a little more linear than say a CBR600 or CBR1000). Those are a few off the top of my head, the V4s would make this thing sound like it's got a V8 and they're fantastic motors. Better yet, you could probably find wrecked examples or parts bikes for cheap of all of these and they shouldn't weigh much more and all but the 650 should make more than 100whp.

Some of these aren't really very good options, to be honest. Looking at my Beat and my Gold Wing, the GL1800 engine is unlikely to fit. I think the V4s are a much better option. I'd look into running an ST1300's shaft output directly into a differential. Chain drive stuff is a headache for a car swap and I'd avoid it if possible, so I'd scratch off CBRs, VFRs, and the like.

I’m building a similar version of that but with a mid K24a2 Turbo. It’s a 1970 Honda Z600 kei car (it’s a hair smaller than a Beat). It has a roll cage too.

Double the torque, triple the power, add 1/3 to the rev range, then give it 200tw tires and some 15x8 RPF1s or equivalently light and cool-looking wheels wherein you put ever so slightly stretched tires for maximum handling. (The formula for tire fitment is wheel width in inches * 24 to 32 = tire section width in mm. Right in the middle around 26-28 being ideal.)

It's funny just a few weeks ago I just bought I think the cheapest Honda Beat in the country right now at $3k, and as much as I wanted to fix up the engine it's looking like it's actually going to be cheaper to stuff a reliable 4-cylinder bike motor into it instead. So I commend you for sticking with the OEM motor, but I'm also looking forward to how much fun and how stupid this thing is going to be...Also, because I'm going to be building it as a rallycross car.

You might want to upgrade the rear brakes too. If they haven't been upgraded with the fronts the brake bias will be off, and while usually that's not a huge deal to shift it frontward, on rear heavy cars it manifests as the fronts locking prematurely which is really frustrating and can result in very poor braking. You won't be able to band-aid the bias of the existing system with a proportioning valve (they only take away from the rear). You could only change bias with a dual master balance bar setup. But obviously I'd suggest upgrading the rear brakes to a larger diameter and/or caliper such that the bias is correct.

This probably would of been great on the back of the school bus you owned. Ill admit ive found an interest in kei cars probably a good first car if a mx5 is too high for insurance and i mean in the uk. I imagine in the us next to pickup trucks and big engines a miata is like a kei car. I probably wouldnt fit in one of these if i did probably not comfortably but i had fun in a 90s mini as a passenger with 45 horsepower from a 998cc engine. ive been in a 1995 subaru impreza colin mcrae edition 5 door a sierra rs500, a 58 chevy bel air a shelby daytona at rockingham speedway a 996 porsche or 993 and a maserati gran tourismo sport for the nec classic car show and recently an audi s4 for work but the mini still put a smile on my face and was still fun and kept up with a lotus europa i love small light cars with no weight its my favorite thing. The mini also made my fiesta look quick with a 1.3 litre with 59 horsepower from new.

I would have an AR500 or Eaton M90 blower on that thing but, quick, if not a swap of some kind with a 6 speed manual then boost. It wouldn't necessarily require much to be exciting, maybe 100-150hp would be very very fun and would probably be much easier on the engine since in normal driving you would get up to speed so much quicker and easier then you would be off the power again not beating it to death, could probably take a little taller axle ratio and be able to comfirtably cruise at 70-80mph highway at lower rpms and easily maintain speed without heavy strain. If it had a bigger I3, I4, I5, I6(Volvo and Suzuki made transverse I6s) engine, possibly with boost land a 6 speed transaxle with 200-300hp it would be a savage little monster and 350-500hp it would be supercar quick.

When it comes to motorcycles triples are the way, good power and still have toque unlike a inline 4 plus i have never heard a triple that didnt sound good especially the Triumph triples like on the Speed Triple 765RS.

yo uh did you know honda made a transverse inline 6 for their CBX 1000 motorcycle? im sure with a bit of jiggery ond pokery it would fit in this if the stock engine gives any problems down the line (touch wood it doesnt). from stock they use carbs but swapping to port fuel injection shouldnt be hard, or maybe you could try and find/work out direct injection if you arent a fan of the 6 carbs it has. keep it honda powered and with that you will have one of the best sounding engines that ever came on the road, people say (x) car sounds like an F1 car, but no that bike *screamed* like only an F1 engine ever has. should also be noted that people modify these from 1000cc (1 litre) up to 1300cc (1.3L). do make sure you check out the videos on the sound of the CBX 1000. Kawasaki also made a similar engine but if honda made one the brand is already there so use that lol

@Corvolet5 Yeah you are right. but if you are tall, the honda beat isn't much help either. I am about 5'10/5'11 and I fit in the BMW like a glove. It was like it was designed for me. If you really wanted to own one, I am sure you could look into aftermarket seats and bolt them lower.
