I taught my girl and boy to shoot at age 7 using a BB gun first, upgraded to .22 shooting paper mainly. Now they both own their own weapons. Son in LE. Always taught safety and always know what is behind the target as you can't take that round back after you pull the trigger. Your granddaughters are getting valuable life skills. Their future husbands will be happy. Country girls rule!

Hello Hank,Dub & Zee. When I was a teenager, I had a Crossman 761XL which had actual a wood stock and the small piece where you pump up the rifle was also wood. There is a like a long slot on the side that you push in and load the BB’s. I remember using the Daisy.177 BB’s and the Crossman .177 pellets. You do know that there are pellets that have conical noses much like actual bullets although the hunting pellets that I have remind me of miniature rounds like the Civil War muskets used with the rifled barrels. When pumping up the rifle, You must make a complete stroke to do the rifle justice on you will be wasting your time and ammunition. The air rifles do much better when you pump them up at least 10 strokes or say minimum compression strokes put your pellets at risk of hanging up in the barrel. I also like the CO2 cartridge pellet pistols which shoot only as hard as the capacity of your CO2 cartridge will allow. I would also advise putting 2-3 drops of oil in the designated places to lubricate the seals and moving parts.

Here's another idea. Buy the girls a 22 rifle with a 16" barrel and use Aguila Colibri ammo in it. That's super quiet and only gives a little more velocity than your air rifle, but doesn't present a risk like regular 22 bullets flying up to a mile away. That's some specialized ammo but it would work fine for squirrels.

You must do full strokes on that type of air rifle all the way from the top to the bottom and if I'm not mistaken you can only pump it 10 times per shot

10 pumps it will take a lot down also shoots more accurately, there possibly should be two black pellet holders in the box. Theese are great bb/pellet guns. Bbs work well too and holds alot.

All the way up full pumps you can actually go a little over 10 pumps probably 15 it will shoot a little harder but it's still not going to help the accuracy

Many fond memories of using the original Md. 760 ( wood stock, metal receiver). Yes, about 60-odd years ago! Much more accurate than you'd imagine! Favorite bb plinker was the old Crosman lever action co2! Lots of fun sessions up in the Los Padres Way back in the day! Glad you are starting them on a BB gun. Lots of cheap practice! Once you push a pellet forward its stuck in the barrel. You have to shoot it out or push it backwards from the muzzle with a rod or wire coat hanger. Number 9 wire could work also.

Use 10 full pumps and get some good pellets, the Gammo red fire don't shoot very well from many rifles. I'd recommend some 8 grain JSB. That rifle is a smooth bore but can be accurate with good pellets to about 25 yards.

Should have got that barra 1866 cowboy style that was on the top shelf , i have one and it is super accurate shoots thru the same hole with crossman premier hollow points and even tighter with h&n terminators, even mounted a scope using j b weld since it doesn't have a scopemount and nailed a squirrel at 56 yards

One more tip about pumping your Crosman. Lean forward a little so you can hold the stock between your legs, with the rifle against your chest and the barrel next to your head. Now, you can use both hands to pull the pump handle back. It's a lot easier to do than how you're doing in this video.

Howdy Hank. I grew up with BB guns and air rifles. As I got older, I spent the money on a decent RWS Diana model 34 adult pellet rifle in .22 caliber. I love that break barrel springer. Cheap to shoot and more than enough power to take pesky rodents. The good thing about air rifles is that it keeps you in practice for bigger rifles during open season on game animals 🦌..

Safety suggestion... place the rifle on safety first, pump it up the same number of pumps for each shot, THEN load the pellet. It's not safe to pump up a loaded rifle!
