No offence taken mate, I've had a whole bunch of people tell me it's patched, and a whole bunch have a pop at me for "wasting their time" as I haven't told others it has been patched. Use the number blocks. Like 0, 1, 2 and so on. You can use the , and ' that is just as thin as the sheet. But they have full HP. So a concrete , is 5000 hp. You can also use the corner door trim. It's a tiny cube in a corner. Smaller than the cube trim.

Don't know if they changed anything in the behaviour, but based on my test those blocks to take quite some damage from enemies to the point where I don't think they will survive for a hord night unless you constantly try to kill those zombies before they can hit around. Tested a few blocks and the "door corner trim" seems to have the smallest hitbox while still having full health and not being hit that often by enemies, but still at risk and not being AFKable.

Now starting a new playthrough with that in mind. How I will be building is dig a one deep base so that standard blocks can go in. Upgrade them as far as possible. On top of that the thinnest frame I can find whic, I think, is the sheet so that it can be flusg which 2 out from the edge, just to make sure that there are no gaps for hose pesky brain munchers. Then those door corners. Hopefully, it will work with DF. Time will tell

Seems good - I can imagine having some turrets 3+ blocks high facing inwards would absolutely devastate them, or having the turrets facing towards the center box so that it can take out the conga line while you run around would also work well. I'm always looking for ways to break the AI and this one seems really good. If you want to try one that I've come up with (admittedly based on a design for previous versions, updated for A20) - Pillar 1m Cap along a wall, acting as a bridge for the zeds (they will try to run across it). They can usually make it across if you leave it at that, so on the block above you put Pole 1/2 sticking out from the wall - it's small enough that they'll still try to run across it, but unless they crawl they'll end up getting pushed off, and 99% of them won't crawl (I'm sure there's a layout for it that will eliminate that as an option, perhaps a pole at the top on one cube, and the bottom but adjacent on the next so it forms a mini gate). Allows for a pretty easy infinite looping strategy, and works well with turrets (which I mention again as the premier A20 method of dealing with demos).

There’s a way better way and your welcome in advance. True floating platform. 1 place wood frame on ground. 2 place 1 piece of forest ground on top of frame. 3 plant tree. 4 wait. Let free full grow. 5 place blocks up on the tree trunk about 8 blocks or more up the tree parallel from each other same hight. 6. Chop the dirt and let the tree make the falling noise, tree will just disappear. 7 place a block between the 2 leftover from the tree in the air. 8 repeat process as it won’t hold forever. Only one of those two blocks holds weight and the other 2 in the single process counts as 2 in supported. That’s how it’s done you will have to do several tree and block set ups so miss well plan and plant all at once. This should still work I have done it a lot and it’s 100% free from the ground at any hight, just place higher wood frames then plant dirt and tree. It’s a pain high up but it’s so worth it. I also build buildings with no protection on the ground and it’s safe by using methods of non detection and a ramp that dumps them off my building with normal legs to the ground it’s impervious.

Jump on a bike and just cruise the entire night, dig all the way to bedrock and run up and down a tunnel all night, build a tower base and waste ammo all night. No challenge, no exploits, no danger. The ONLY way to fuck up a horde at any level is if you don't properly get enough materials for your base, or if you don't have enough ammo. And then you just die. Or bike away if you have a bicycle, lmao. There's no inbetween. You either cruise with no challenge, or you're just dead and with no way to recover that night. If you want an afk base there are two easier better options. A large lake or a large platform. Mobs can't spawn on certain blocks. They can't spawn outside a certain range which I think is 30 blocks. So build a platform 61x61 or larger and mobs can't spawn and attack you.

That's false. You can always expand on the killing potential of cheese-bases by using turrets, traps and guns. bases utilizing sledgehammers are very simple to make , just place a few traps where the kicked down zombies land and voila - loot and exp.
@kathrynck
@kathrynck 2 жыл бұрын
@@Careonovam You get less xp from trap kills vs. player kills (even if spec'd heavily into intel). And cheese effects cause your targets to fall, and re-path, which takes time. The ideal scenario is to soften the zombies up with traps, while avoiding a large number of trap-based killing blows. Then kill them with player-fire. And leave very minimal survivors. Every zombie which falls, is another 15 seconds (give or take, depending on base design, and rage mode) where you either have a zombie not being killed, or being killed by traps for substantially less xp. The idea set-up (for XP and loot) is traps, then kill zone, then more traps. Soften your targets with traps (ones which don't slow them down), players kill them in the kill zone (slow them down there), and then traps catch any stragglers. If you're optimized, some zombies will be killed by traps of course, just because zombies have different amounts of health. But if you balance out the damage rates, you can get the bulk of the zombies to die in the player kill zone, in a steady stream which is constantly fed with more zombie spawns, pre-softened for player kills. That said, you could cheese them into a pit and use molly's or explosives as your kill zone. Cheese can work with that. But all in all, they die faster (and spawn replacements faster) if you kill them with direct fire. If you kill zombies 1 through 10 sequentially, then zombie 1 has already spawned an inbound replacement by the time you kill zombie 10. If you wait for 10 zombies to group up in your pit though, and kill them all at once, there's more waiting involved. All depends on what you're focused on. Survival is easy, min-maxing xp & loot though involves quite a few considerations. Timing can be important too. Depending on your game settings (daylight length and minutes per day) loot bags may not last all night. That can make it useful to have a base which can throttle killing rate, then go full power at a specific time during the horde. Cheese can be good for that. But that's IF you prioritize saving resources over XP that is, but still want fat loop bag stacks. If not, go full throttle all night for the XP too. Either way, it's good to have dump chests to dump 90% of your gear into the moment the horde is over, and multiple dump chests around the loot bag drop areas to stuff loot (for space) into as you quickly pick up bags. On my best base builds, I go to great lengths to help the zombies get into the kill zone as fast as possible. No jumping stairs or anything, I want a smooth fast flow into the kill zone. I'll even clear landscape obstacles which would slow their pathing, so they can come and become loot & xp faster. This is only IF you're min-maxing for XP & loot though. It's a sandbox, there's no right way to play the game. I like to min-max: XP per second, loot per second, and base repair resource cost, as a kind of 3-way puzzle. Survival should be kind of a given with a good base design. And how a base handles Demo's is the real litmus test for high game stage viability.

you can combine this with a 1 tile bridge (like the basic horde bases have), but have a powered door (garage door/draw bridge/whatever) in the middle, connected to a floor trigger.. so it would handle crowd control by dropping down excess zombies. ie : if you place plate trigger X tiles away from the trap door, then it would only let X amount zombies through and dump the rest of them to the floor below. so even if zombies enter rage mode, they'll just end up trying to attack blocks they can't hit, before they get bored and try to run through the bridge again. (coz some people like using horde night for leveling up combat skills) edit : you can also put aesthetic "support" columns (like a tripod or arch), so the base doesn't look like it's floating on air.

Then I tried building a robo sledge base but instead of going through the path they just decided to go for the foundation of the part of the base where we stay. I've been told several times that they go towards the least resistance. My best guess was my foundation was weaker and faster to get through than going through the path I made for the robo sledge base. As of now I'm seeing this as my best bet to completely negate these "ZOMBIE JERKS" trying to go after my base supports and just have them all go through the path. I was planning on using sheets as per jawoods video. Then I saw yours and learned of a better substitute. Then I saw a comment talking about smaller block shapes to use. I still plan on using 2 block high supports and have the 3rd one above just be normal blocks. But I'm hesitant about it. Maybe I'll just follow your tip and have the tiny block supports 3 blocks high.

The thing is, if they made both the blocks and the zombies MUCH more realistic, everything would work out. 1. Flesh and bone are softer than stone. Once you build with cobblestone, only explosions, acid, and hard kinetic strikes have a serious chance at damaging blocks. (Give the biker zombies chain wrapped around their fists, for example.) Fists should do VERY little damage to wood, so zombies should take at least ten times as many attacks to break down a wall, for example. 2. Likewise, solid rock should have a LOT more hp per block. (Some of you might not be aware of this, but in real life, it takes a lot more than a dozen or so swings with a pick to break down a cubic metre of rock. Just sayin'.) 3. Blocks need to be recoded so only solid parts are considered passable. 4. Once a certain number of zombies is in a cell, it should be considered an 'undead block' and other zombies can climb on top, as in WWZ. If a zombie in an undead block dies/gets knocked down, a random zombie above should fall into the undead block to maintain it. 5. Measure structural stress in PSI. The smaller the cross-section where two blocks meet, the less stress it can handle. 6. Wood should be cheap and easy both to build with and destroy. Building with cobblestone/concrete/etc. should be EXPONENTIALLY more expensive and difficult to build with. Building the typical concrete castle should take a dozen people a few weeks just to grind the materials. 7. Most taller non-wood buildings should have deteriorated enough that it wouldn't take a lot to bring them crashing down. This would make building a base in one during the early game MUCH less desirable. The player would have to balance the added protection against the chance that they will lose everything if attacks take out the wrong blocks. Basically, the early game would usually consist of fortifying a wooden house as you gather the insane amount of resources needed to make a cobblestone-shelled base. (The main structure would be wood, with 'armour plating' of harder materials to protect the wood.) ...but those would still be viable bases, as zombies would have a much harder time busting through your defences. Heck, if you were willing to spend the time, an underground base would finally be a legitimate possibility. Does that make sense to y'all?
@PriMate
@PriMate 2 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of this all makes absolute sense! Although....if you make a game too realistic, it gets boring quick. Right now they have tiers on all aspects, blocks, skills, weapons, hordes, and it all scales up. I think the scaling helps but unless zombies are running or feral, the game is very easy. Some of your suggestions would 100% help with this, like stacking zombies such as world war z, that would be challenging and really make you think about what to do!
@KeithOlson
@KeithOlson 2 жыл бұрын
@@PriMate Hmmm... having SUB-tiers for blocks would be interesting. Have a 'Builder' branch with 'Carpentry'/'Bricklayer'/etc. sub-branches. Each level lets you make higher-tier wood/cobblestone/etc. blocks and do so faster. There could even be overlap, so, for example, a T3 wooden block could be slightly stronger than a T1 cobblestone block.
@autolicious
@autolicious 2 жыл бұрын
Makes a lot of sense...and it would kill the game in a week. Most people don't have the time to put into a game that these kinds of changes would require. No time means no players means dead game.
@KeithOlson
@KeithOlson 2 жыл бұрын
@@autolicious I'm not so sure of that. By nerfing both the blocks and block damage, I'm confident a balance could be achieved, especially considering you can set XP gain to be *MUCH* higher if you want, which would make leveling up the extra skills not so much of an issue.

@@PriMate It seems fine and works on the small scale. Large scale looks a lot more interesting. Tower sides have more of a textured look to it. The 8 block corners that meet look better to me, and I even gave it a wider base as the empty space is still nearly an entire block away from the original edge. The ramp and walkways also get a little more support as they technically can be connected to the tower by one block in the middle of each side.

While I was digging a pit for my base, I was able to dig the ground perfectly enough to let it with 1 HP, and the surface area was so small that was invisible. My friends and I weren't able to hit it again, but it was physical, it was there, we couldn't place a block there, we couldn't pass through because it was an obstacle. In the end, we end up exploding it and removing it with AoE damage... This probably happened with you as well, so I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. First thing I am going to say is the 7DTD is a really well done sandbox game and although slow in substantial additions, still is fun to play. (finished pep talk).IMHO all these nerf patches they are doing has been sort of pointless. The game from the start allows mods, which unless they spend their time hard coding everything is a wasted endeavor. Even with that, the amazing modding community will create a workaround. If they want to stop people from finding 'exploits' don't allow modding. That's not going to happen because just like Bethesda's undead Skyrim, Fallout, etc., you are guaranteed profits because the modders uptick replayability (thus purchases) tenfold for decades after. So, are they going to disable mods? HELL NO! So what's the point in what they're doing now.... busywork (with all that staff expansion)?!? They need to just work on finishing the game. Start working on giving ALL those backers the game they promised them. Or at least look like you're putting some effort into it (like maybe bandits, it does not have to be perfect ... that's what patches are for in a game that's been EARLY access a LONG time). I think the players have more than proven their tolerance and patience.

What difference does it make if you have stuff hard to hit if they are going to hit the floor... so why does it matter if you make the sphere blocks 5000 if the floor is 500 and it will collapse the base? The later hordes are as tall as that base, especially with DF installed. Plus the distance attacks that do DoT on blocks would crush that, sadly. It's a cool concept for a lower-tier blood moon though.

Yeah its just for a bit of fun, not specifically designed to take on any type of horde or mod. Just a bit of fun to give people ideas 🙃

Roquefort, Havarti, Cheddar, this base: All are cheese. I should have followed Pixel Life's lead and taken my lactose pills before viewing. The only thing I can think of to make it cheesier would be to protect the base supports by surrounding them with JaWoodle's arrow slit "force field". Then they couldn't even beat on your base, and you're only dealing with vultures and cops spitting.

Haha! I'll stick a couple of those pills in the post for you 😂 Yeah I could have used the force field but wanted to keep it "moneky", if I were to use even a snippet of what someone else has designed there would a tonne of crappy comments lol

If you use the force field you don't need it to float anymore though. Different style.

@@PriMate I hear you 100% on the "comments" - and really don't expect you to pull in stuff from other folks on your own videos. I did, however, play around with both last night...and building a horde fort with your method ON the arrow slit trenches? Probably earns a super gold medal in the World Cheese Awards. Lots of sad and confused zombies beating on the ground.

Why not use forged steel for the base domes?
