You may need to add some fluids/ oil to the lower unit/ down drive chain. It will eliminate rust and extend the life of that drive chain. I would suggest googling the owners manual and parts manual for that motor. It would help with the bearing, oil and any further concerns. Plus, might teach you something you're missing that could eventually be catastrophic for the motor. Good luck. Yet again, another honest and good video.

Definitely get some gear oil for the lower! Also keep the aluminum prop just buy an extra and let it be the weak link.

If theres a plug in the bottom and seals all around to be water tight i would assume that it takes gear oil not only to lubricate the chain but that bearing as well. Id take it apart again clean the grease outta that bearing you just lathered up Teflon tape the plug and add gear lube. Cuz that would explain the water oil mixture you had coming out of the bottom. Best of luck!

At around 4:46....isn’t there a huge chunk out of that bearing? That looks like where your chunk of metal and those balls came from. I don’t think that shaft should have any play.... Once I saw short tail dead on the water....and how they didn’t work as well in real low water thick mud. I went to a long tail. I’m fine with getting there slow as long as I get there. We have only had one failure in 16 years. Grease wasn’t getting all the way through the shaft. It got hot, welded itself to the outer shaft and broke in two. I still consider that acceptable after the hrs of use on the motor.

Hard to tell from the video. Ya I will prolly change it up next season

Purchased used or new? If used I would definitely look into a manual..willing to bet that needs oil in the bottom end to lubricate the chain and gear drive system. If you puchased it new..you should've gone straight to the dealership with it.

Purchased used that’s for the heads up

You don't want to use a stainless steel prop. Those kits are made to have cheap props so the prop breaks before it tears up other components of the motor. Also, I think you are supposed to put oil in the back to keep it from rusting up. That is why it has the drain plug in the back.
@DuckGunChronicles4 жыл бұрын
Alright I’ll do that 👍

That narly piece of metal is part of the bearing cage that`s what holds the bearing in place . I have a Long Tail but I think it would be safe to say there should be some Gear Oil in that housing that`s why there is a gasket there to keep the oil in . Put some Gear oil in it let know how that`s working out .

I feel like you should be getting more rpm’s out of that engine. When you were squeezing the throttle, it didn’t sound like it was getting high rpm. I use to have one of those engines. Might need to look into another throttle handle or even tweak the current throttle assembly to get more power and speed out of it
@DuckGunChronicles4 жыл бұрын

I would not recommend a stainless steel prop. If you got a big rock or stump you'll bend your shaft or skip those gears on the chain again. With the aluminum props you can keep a spare for $20 and change it out in less than 20 minutes.
@brodiehynd38244 жыл бұрын
Just my opinion. But I think I would grease that chain and leave the drain plug out. Water gonna get in no way around it. But if it drains out when not in use I think it would be best. Not to mention once you start hunting in the cold... freeze and bust then you s o l my friend.. love your channel bub. Rep the Hooiser state.

Actually you're supposed to drain it after EVERY use!!! These city slicker hunters have no mechanical abilities.
