Whenever I discover something that I never expected, I'm very satisfied inside. Is this allowed? I hope yes.
Today is all about the J-6. As you know I repurchased the J-6 after being able to use it for a few days right after its release a few months ago. At that time I didn't have much time and unfortunately it was just a matter of trying it out. I couldn't penetrate deeper. I realized that sometime a few weeks ago and decided to give the J-6 a second chance, it wasn't his fault if he didn't convince me. That's why I always say: discover your instrument and take your time. So I had fallen for my own rule. But now I've made amends.
I now have a little more time. Time that is also urgently needed for the J-6, because believe it or not: It bothered me that the J-6 somehow couldn't be used in the Live Jam. Or could you? If that's possible, I really wanted to find out. Yesterday I spontaneously sat down and tried out some of the functions of the J-6 and I think I'm crazy: What didn't work months ago suddenly works. Of course, Roland may have made some adjustments here, but I could swear that it wasn't possible to enter notes live like with a sequencer. Do you disagree? Write it in the comments. I am excited.
Anyway. I was amazed when I could suddenly use the J-6 like a MicroFreak or a Volca Bass and it's great fun to jam with the J-6. If you already own one, I can heartily recommend it.
And you won't believe it, but actually I just wanted to jam a little (10 minutes maximum) but you know that with me. When it's my turn......
I also got the Volca Sample. Why not the PO 33? To be honest, I didn't find the sounds suitable, for me they are more like 80th style in the J-6 and the Volca sample just fits better. Maybe the Volca Beats too, but I don't have that (can you hear me KORG, I don't have the Volca Beats... Christmas is coming soon.... )

Setup
Roland AIRA J-6 (used Sound: 3-5)
Volca Sample
(pattern with 32 steps (4 times 8)
For everyone who is wondering how I managed this with my smartphone: I am currently using my old OnePlus 6T again for recording.
I hope that depends on the quality. I hope to have a permanent solution in the new year. fingers crossed
Love Volcaniced
Important Notes:
- Please forgive the bad perspective, but the bracket had moved again, but I didn't see that.
- Moreover, as always and with every long jam, it takes a few minutes to get to the music. so please forgive the mistakes at the beginning.

Hey brother! I have the Sample2, and I can’t bring myself to take off the samples that are on it! They are just perfect ones for a nice little different beat, so you know what I did, I bought more samplers! lol, but seriously, I did, and an getting making my own, wind, trains, even boiling water (I wish I could take credit for that idea, but I saw it online somewhere, and thought it was an interesting idea. My joke is sounds better if there’s pasta in it, I get a great new sample and made dinner all at once! Other than the shipped samples, I will probably never change out, I got two J-6’s. All good products sound better if you have two! It’s a philosophy I live by! My edge is on the way, 2 craves, one Subharmonican, all the Arias plus1, then the Sh4D. This as always was a great video! The sampler two is the only Volca I own but I’m been thinking about getting another, the problem with Korg’sisI have Kronos 88 and a Nautilus, can’t I really justify it?great job I loved it!!!

I've been watching J-6 videos all afternoon. This is the first (only?) video that showed me that I can keep away from chords and the arpeggiator and record melodic lines, even in real time! Bravo! I think I'm gonna buy one based on this video alone! Thank you for ALL your work here on YT. It's truly inspiring to me.

You were right to give the J-6 another chance ! I personnaly have it since it came out and I discover new tricks over and over ! I personnaly prefer writing full sequences and play them, but I don't like the crazy "gaps" that occurs while you switch patterns. The way you play is interesting because you don't have to switch patterns ! This week I found a whole new territory to explore with the J-6 : press the "hold" button and begin to play... with long notes (enveloppe pushed to the max, fx) the J-6 turns into an impressive ambient pad generator ! Also with arpeggios (style/variation) there seem to be no note limits : you can go above the 4 notes limitation...

Great to hear .. I am going to to test this.
@kierenmoore3236
@kierenmoore3236 10 ай бұрын
Did this ‘work’ … mind you, if the chord is actually arpeggiated, note limit becomes irrelevant anyway (as arp means ne note at a time, by definition … ?!) You meant, you can set it to arpeggiate, say, 6 notes up, then down again (albeit, one note at a time) … ?! 🤔
@bigkik
@bigkik 10 ай бұрын
@@kierenmoore3236 I meant : - without arp activated : only [hold] button pressed ; variation "off" ; chord "off". You can press as much keys as you want they will stay enlighten without "note limit" warning message. The J-6 plays the lowest note whatever is played afterwards. Then it will keep the last 3 notes played. So the 4 notes limitations applies here. In arp mode (variation "on") with [hold] activated and outside of the sequencer it can play how much notes you want but as you said it is "normal". In sequencer mode though we are stuck with 4 notes, even with "arp" variations.

This sounds awesome!! I have the J6, got it 2 weeks ago. Having a great time with it however it does seem kind of limited until I saw what you’re doing. Could you share the steps of how you accomplished this? I can find sound 3-5 but without the variation/style on it just holds a note steady when pressed and does not arpeggiate. I also saw you messing with the “enter” and “shuffle” button. I’m using it with a T8 however I would guess that it acts the same regardless of what drum machine is being used.

I’m glad that the J-6 works for your style now. It sounds very good here. Probably my favorite part is Pluto (it’s still a planet to me, too). And I agree that the volca sample’s stock sounds work well here. It seems like the volcas are getting harder to find, at least in my experience. I hope you’re able to find the ones you would like to play. Are you interested in any more besides the beats?

j-6 is great with a daw. I also use mine to control the s-1. they both sound massive together. I must add that ive synced it to the korg micro x. wow its another level. it really works great with stuff like the micro x/triton etc because you got all those combis to mess about with. the best bit is controlling samples via the korg es. reverbed high pitched piano samples pitched down by the es and played via the j-6 chords is pretty mind-blowing, you can reverse etc while playing with the korg es controls/effects to get some unique results. I love pushing gear to its limits! I might make some vids ;)

Hello @Volcaniced. My wife just offered me a J6 and I'm in trouble with the sequencer. I recorded a pattern and I can't play note in live without "cut" the sequencer. How did you do it in this video ? Thx a lot!! Love your work !

Did you record chords pattern? The j6 only plays 4 Notes at the same time. So it should work if you record a pattern with single notes. And then it's a question of timing.
